8. Granada Charterhouse

Construction began in the early 1500s, just after the city was reconstruction, but it would not be completed for the next 300 years.

However, the result is one of Spain’s baroque masterpieces, with an explosion of lush decor that will distract most visitors. Outside is a peaceful sanctuary, with rows of Doric columns from the 1600s and the rooms set off from this courtyard decorated with portraits of the martyrs who used to meet with bloody ends.
