Kerala Itinerary For 5 Days – Exploring God’s Own Country!

Touring Kerala

Kerala is truly a mystical place. The name God’s Own Country is just apt for the views and experiences the state provides. Surrounded by coconut trees, green fields, waterfalls and backwaters, the place is as soothing as it can get.

Day-wise Itinerary:

  • 1st Day – Munnar
  • 2nd Day – Alleppey

Day 1: Munnar

Arrive into Munnar, a land that talks romance just as you see the cold wind brushing on your shoulder. Located between the hills is a place with beautiful landscape and weather.

As you arrive at Munnar, head to your accommodation and get refreshed. After a refreshing afternoon, head to the nearby places to eat and taste the authentic dishes of Kerala, made from the finest ground spices. Heavy lunch calls for a good sleep. So head back to your room and get that power nap. Later in the evening, head to Kundala Lake. Kundala Lake or known as the Kundala dam is an artificial dam. Have fun going on boat rides and spotting the rare Neelakurinji flowers.

Day 2: Alleppey

It’s the second day of your trip. Start your day a little early and head to the Echo Point. Located close to the top station, try trekking to the peak and enjoy the stunning view of the sunrise. If you are not able to be there for sunrise, its completely okay, the view gets better in time and you clearly see the valleys and thick forest surrounding Munnar.

Once you are done enjoying the view, pack your backs and be on your way to Alleppey. Alleppey is about 5 hours drive from Munnar. Located near the backwaters of Kerala, the town is famous for the Houseboats. What’s the best way to enjoy your stay that boathouse? The backwaters in Alleppey is calm and soothing. Once you reach Alleppey, check-in at the hotel and head out for some fun. Try the famous Kayaking activity which lets you soak in the beauty of nature while you row around the calm waters of Kerala.

Late in the evening, head to the Alleppey beach and enjoy the sunset in a soothing surrounding. Alleppey or Azhapuzha is quite a famous landmark in Kerala. It has got a charming lighthouse, amazing marine life and a 139-year-old pier that still exits and operate. Take a walk down the memory lane and get to know the history of the pier.

Day 3

Wake up when you can and enjoy a scrumptious breakfast in your bed. Get ready and Ravi Karunakaran Museum. The museum exhibits a range of crystals found near the ocean and in the land of Kerala. Women, let me tell you, it’ll surely leave awestruck!! The exhibits here once belonged to the family of Revi Karunakaran. Each artefact here tells a story and thus making it a place filled with tons of stories. The must-see exhibit is the famous Swarovski crystal collection and Tanjore paintings. You can buy something at the gift shop as a souvenir for something to remember by.

Post the museum, visit the nearby cafe and chill your mind by sipping a cold drink or a beverage. If you are a spiritual sage, we suggest you go to small temples located in almost every street of Alleppey. The temples here are filled with myths and beliefs.

In the night, make sure to visit the beaches of Alleppey. There is always something or the other happening on the shores of these beaches. Enjoy some music and mingle with the locals and share a story. Have a wonderful time at the campfire with your loved ones under the moon and head back to your boat when you feel like.

Day 4: Thekkady

It is Day 4 and head to Thekkady from Alleppey. It is about four hours drive. But trust us when we tell you this, the drive is as scenic as it can get. Thekkady is more of secluded place from the rest of Kerala. The place is covered with thick forest, a beautiful lake and lots of birds and animals. Be sure to reach here before 6 in the evening. If not, you will not be allowed to enter Thekkady later in the evening.

If you are here by afternoon, go for a boat ride and get a chance to take a look at the wild elephants that visit the lake to feed their thirst. While there, try your hands is some adventurous boating. When we mean adventurous boating, we mean bamboo boating. Try the new boats made completely out of bamboo. Completely safe and adventurous.

If you have time in hand, we also suggest you trek to the nearest Spring Valley Mountain also known as Kurusimala. Enjoy the green plants and colourful flowers on your way to the top. Be sure to visit the Pinnacle located on top of the mountain to get some luck in hand and head back to your accommodation before it gets darker.

Day 5
