Flores is one of the many beautiful islands of Indonesia. Designated from the Portuguese name for the Cape Kopondai, Cabo de Flores became Flores later on. Largely mountainous, especially in the west, you will be able to spot the nearly 7900 feet tall Mandasawu Peak. Most of the active volcanoes are majorly in the centre and east side of the island. “The mountain on the three coloured lakes”, Mount Kelimutu is there in the historic main city of Ende. Agriculture is also one of their major income-producing option and coffee, coconut and corn are commercial here. This is also definitely one of the best places to go diving. This is one of the better islands to visit for a getaway from rather a busy city life. It is one of the most romantic destinations where you can spend your time with your loved ones. 1. Komodo Island

One of the most famous spots in Flores, Komodo Island is home to a national park. The Island has got its name from its residents here, the komodo dragons, which are a species of lizard. They are the world’s largest lizard and the lizard that lives the longest. A day trip to the island will be perfect to view the creatures at their home. But go with a guide there as it is dangerous to get too close to the Komodo dragons. These lizards have toxic saliva that will be dripping from their jaws. So you will never want to risk a bite from them. Other than that, the place is one of the best scenic locations that you will find in the city of Flores. 2. Lakes of Kelimutu

Even though the star attraction Kelimutu is a volcanic mountain, it is much known for its serene lakes. These lakes are the three crater lakes with each showing a different colour in between the mountains. Lakes are Red, blue and green in colour. The different colours are due to the different gasses bubbling away from the surface is what many say. Hike through the volcanic mountains to get a closer view of the lakes and its serene beauty. Try camping there and you will be able to get up to a very beautiful sunrise seen from the rim. 3. Padar Island

When you go to Komodo Island, the island steals all the spotlight and binds the tourists there itself. But a short journey from there is the Padar island which is also worth a visit. The biggest attractions of Padar Islands are the colourful beaches present there. There are also 3 separate areas in the Island which are of black, white and pink colours respectively. There are a variety of places where we can go around and hike. There are several trails that are there for the purpose of hiking. This island is very easily accessible from the neighbouring Labuan Bajo. Plan accordingly to go ahead and cross by the morning time hike during the cooler part of the day. This is because you can plan accordingly and come back down for an afternoon dive at the beaches. Do not miss out on this experience.

4. Dive at Komodo National Park

One of the biggest highlights of the Komodo national park is the spotting of the World’s largest lizard, the Komodo Dragon. But not many people know that the national park also has one of the best views for snorkelling and scuba diving. This sea is home to the beautiful Manta rays and many other species of fishes. But one drawback with this is that the currents at this sea are very strong and often changeable, making it hard sometimes to snorkel or even dive. So do note that this spot can be visited and experienced by trained divers and professional swimmers only. This will be one hell of an experience for you when you visit this diving space and is also one of the best tourist attractions in Flores.

Manggarai people are the indigenous people from the west part of the Flores. They have some of the unique traditions and celebrations that are not even seen in the other parts of Indonesia. One such thing is the Caci Dance. Dressed as animals, 2 men will be hotting each other with whips. These are accompanied by rhythmic drum beats and don’t worry, there will be no violent attacks on anyone as it will not be a serious fight between the 2 men. It is just a Ceremonial spectacle. These dances do not happen at a set schedule and it only happens in the villages around. It will be better if you could hire a local guide to help you out in seeing this unique ceremonial dance.
