In the age of incredible computer technology and green screens, studios can create entire worlds in one room. However, nothing beats the movies filmed on actual, existing locations, and also, the feeling when you’re able to visit and experience them on your own. Film locations attract a lot of tourists, and some go over thousands of miles just to stand on the very spot where the movie was filmed or sit in the same café as their favourite actor.

So, which movie location would you like to visit the most? Here are a few of the top favourite, most famous places around the world you might want to see sometime.

It’s been over twenty years since this movie was released, but many of us remember the fantastic locations. For those that are not familiar with this movie, Harrison Ford is an archaeologist on an assignment to find the Holy Grail. This film was filmed on many breathtaking locations including Venice, Spain and Germany, but one place captured the whole atmosphere of the movie- the Treasury at Petra. This is a scene where Indiana Jones rides on horseback through a sandstone canyon to arrive on this place. According to UNESCO and National Geographic, the Treasury can’t be explored because it’s a facade with a tiny hall once used as a royal tomb. However, you can ride on horseback through the sandstone canyon called Siq, stunning 75-metre high journey on the eastern entrance to Petra.

Sicily, Italy – The Godfather

After seeing The Godfather trilogy, we all wanted to experience the Italian vibe and stay in some of the many locations where it was filmed. This epic movie, considered as one of the best movie trilogies ever made, is a fantastic saga of the growth of the Corleone family.

While most of the scenes were shot in New York, the producers indeed film in Sicily, precisely in the small, quiet coastal town of Savoca. Those who decide to visit Savoca will recognise the locations such as bar Vitelli where Michael asks for Vitelli’s daughter to marry. Here’s also the Piazza Fossia and the small-town church where Michael and Apollonia married. Many tourist guides will give you an insight into the history of the Sicilian mafia and indulge you with local food and wine.

The urban jungle, flashing lights and breathtaking skyscrapers of Hong Kong have long attracted movie producers who are mesmerised by the futuristic scenery. Besides the amazing performances from the acting crew, Hong Kong definitely stole the show in the movie. Fans were thrilled with the vertigo-inspiring scene where Batman (Christian Bale) leaps from the International Finance Centre, the second tallest tower in Hong Kong. The Victoria Harbour and busy streets of Central worked like a charm, and much of the filming also took place in the local markets.
