Asterix and Obelix

They are endearing characters from the fictional Gaul village of Armorica. Armorica – a village that has remained unconquered by the Roman empire largely because its residents derive super-strength from a magic potion created by the village druid. Asterix is a fearless warrior while, Obelix is a menhir sculptor and deliveryman. The comics narrate their everyday doings and their occasional tussles with the Romans.

Although fictional Armorica can be traced to Brittany in France. Discover the abode of Asterix and Obelix. And, maybe, get your hands on that magic potion, too!

Lilo and Stitch

Meet Stitch – a blue koala like alien, the result of an evil scientist’s experiment. And Lilo – an adorable six-year-old who lives with her older sister Nani. Lilo meets Stitch and adopts him as her “dog”. From being a destructive alien, Stitch becomes more loving, and lovable. The adorable pair are seen meeting each day and every obstacle together. A recurring theme is that of ‘Ohana’, which translates to family, that asserts on all your neighbours being family.

And of course the famous quote – “Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten,” One of our favourite among the cartoons and destinations they belong to!

Richie Rich

Also known as the world’s richest boy, everything in the world of RIchie Rich is a play on money and, you know, having a lot of it. His faithful dog, Dollar, for instance, is of the Dollarmation breed and is covered with dollar signs instead of dots. Known for being altruistic, Richie is surrounded by a gala of eccentric, entertaining characters. Unsurprisingly, our protagonist’s residence is Richville.

Cardcaptor Sakura

The story revolves around the implications of high school student Sakura Kinomoto accidentally setting free a set of magic cards. On discovering she has magical powers, she is tasked with retrieving the cards and, thereby, saving the world from huge peril. It is set in the fictional city of Tomoeda, indicated as being close to Tokyo.

So, you can’t save the world like Sakura did. But, why don’t you save up for a vacation? It is the same thing, we swear.

Tintin

A round face with a blond-ish, sleek quiff and, a pale trenchcoat – he can be recognized anywhere in the world. This investigative journalist won our hearts (and his cases) on TV and in writing long before Benedict Cucumberpatch (that sounds about right) on Sherlock came along. Constantly accompanied by his loyal and smart dog Snowy, he was always ahead of the police – solving crimes without breaking a sweat.

Heidi, Girl of the Alps

Another gem of Japanese anime is Heidi. It recounts the tale of 5-year-old Heidi and her life. From leaving to live with her intimidating grandfather in the Swiss Alps – whose heart she wins over soon – to leaving to live in Frankfurt where she harbours a deep homesickness for her grandfather’s home in the Alps. And, finally, to returning home and helping her friend Clara become physically able again.

Speedy Gonzales

If given a chance we’d fully dedicate our learning of the first Spanish word – andre to Speedy Gonzales – the fastest mouse in Mexico. Wielding the words: Ándale! ¡Ándale! ¡Arriba! ¡Arriba! ¡Epa! ¡Epa! ¡Epa! Yeehaw! our Spanish protagonist would go on his adventures saving and protecting starving Mexican mice from Sylvester, the “bad puddy tat”, who guards the cheese factory.
