How To Get Malaysia Visa For Indians?

There are two simple ways on how you can apply for your Malaysia visa. Firstly, it can be done manually through the consulate and the second and the most popular option is through an online application form. Though the visa can be obtained manually, the latter one is much quicker and tech-friendly.

1. Malaysia visa via manual application

To prepare for the Malaysian visa, get ready with all your documents and head to the nearest one-stop centre (OSC). These centres are present in all major cities of India namely, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Pune and Ahmedabad. Choose the nearest city, pick an appointment and pay the visa fee to get the visa application form. Post filling the form, you might have to stand in a long queue to submit your form along with the other required documents. Pay the OSC service fee and visa processing charges through a DD. Once the process has been completed it usually takes around 4-5 working days to get the result and once approves you can collect it from the counter.

2. Malaysia visa through e-visa

The popular method of securing a Malaysian visa for Indians is by applying for an e-visa through an online application. This option was introduced in the year 2017 for Indias. Depending on your purpose of travel you can either apply for a social visit or a tourist visa online. It is also a way to save some money since as there is no need to pay OSC fee/service charge. There are three different types of e-visa as listed below:

  • Single Entry Visa
  • Multiple Entry Visa
  • e-NTRI Visa

The 4 types of Malaysian Visa for Indians

There are four types of Malaysia visa that you can apply for depending on your requirements and eligibility for the same. Find below the types:

1. Single Entry Visa

With a SEV (single entry visa) you can stay in Malaysia for a maximum period of 30 days. This visa is valid for 3 months from the date of issue and grants you a one-time entry to the country and in case you exit and wish to re-enter (even within the 3 months) you will need to apply for a new visa.

2. Multiple Entry Visa

Multiple entry visa gives you the liberty of leaving and returning to the country several times within the duration of the permit or visa validity. This visa is usually valid for 6 months and is ideal if you are planning a business trip or vacation involving multiple entry/exit from Malaysia. Applying for a visa online can save up a lot of your time and many times gives you an immediate response.

3. e-NTRI Visa

It’s an Electronic Travel Registration and Information visa perfect for Indians planning a short gateway to Malaysia. With e-NTRI Visa (single entry), you can visit Malaysia for a maximum of 15 days. This visa needs to be used within 3 months from date of issue. This is one of the best options if you’re entering Malaysia from India, Singapore or Brunei, Thailand. However, please note that the e-NTRI visa can only be applied once in three months.

4. Visa On Arrival

Malaysia visa on arrival has been introduced for Indian passport holders from October 10th 2015. Indian passport holders coming to Malaysia from Indonesia, Thailand or Singapore or holding a valid visa of these nations can acquire a visa on arrival for Malaysia. It can be obtained for a maximum stay of 7 days and cannot be extended further. This can be obtained at the International airports provided the traveller presents a return flight ticket and pays at least USD 1000 per person.

While applying for a Malaysia visa for Indians you will have to submit all required documents as part of the application process. Please note that all of the required documentation listed below in the checklist are mandatory for all candidates:

  • A passport with 6 months validity from the date of departure and at least 2 unused pages for exit and entry visa stamps.
  • Copy of front and back passport page scanned in colour.
  • Malaysia visa application form.
  • Single passport-sized photo of dimension 35 X 50 mm.
  • Birth certificate (if the candidate under 14 years old)
  • Visa fee payable to the centre established by the Malaysian government.

  • Is bank statement or Aadhar details required for Malaysia visa?
    In case of an e-NTRI visa, there is no need for furnishing the documents however in certain cases depending on the purpose of visit you can be asked for the same. In case of SEV and MEV, you will be asked to submit the same if you are applying for Malaysia visa from outside India.
  • Is a visa required if I am transiting through Malaysia?
    If you don’t leave the International airport and have a valid ticket for the next flight, no visa is required.
