Tourism is one of the major revenue contributors to the state and as a result, Kerala is known to increase the National GDP as well. A number of homestays and hotels had to bear the brunt of the pandemic and faced severe losses this year. Kerala, being the hub of Ayurveda lost a lot of revenue there as well due to reduced contact being made mandatory. Ayurvedic spas and especially local tour operators suffered majorly during the nationwide lockdown.

The upcoming development will prove to be a huge sigh of relief for all those seeking respite from the lockdown and more importantly for the stakeholders. Although the Kerala government does not have a concrete date in mind, the state will surely open up for tourists in the month of October. This is of course, after all, SOPs have been adhered to and safety measures are in place.
