Maldives to receive its first ice skating rink this holiday season

Think Maldives and you will think of sun-kissed beaches, turquoise waters, luxurious properties, underwater restaurant, and what not. But, added to the list of wonderful things is the new ice skating rink set to open this December.

Conceived by the upscale 5-star hotel of Jumeirah Vittaveli Maldives, the ice skating rink is the first of its kind in Maldives.

If you are thinking, how can even an ice skating rink exist in the scorching heat of Maldives, then here is the answer. Jumeirah Vittaveli partnered with a Swiss company called Glice which specializes in engineering artificial ice. While normal ice skating rinks are developed by freezing a layer of water over concrete, the artificial ice skating rink in Maldives is established using synthetic materials.

This also means that there is no need for electricity or water to keep the ice skating rink running, making it eco-friendly.
