Places to visit in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Andaman is one of the beautiful places to visit for a family vacation. The island is surrounded by dreamy blue bleaches, amazing tourist attractions, excellent wildlife, and fun water sports. The true beauty of these islands can be expressed fully in words. One has to feel it to know it. Andaman has said to be one of the best quick getaways for Indians.  Currently,  34 out of 572 islands and inhabited by the residents there. There are native and major islands in Andaman as well known as the Jarawa. These people are still living on the island away from the tourists.

Places to visit in the islands

1. The Cellular Jail

Once a place filled with freedom fighters now remains silent. The British captured all the Indian fighters and were put here and tortured. This place is also called the ” Kaala Pani” since the place is surrounded by waters and the prisoners had no way to escape. Post the independence, the jail was damaged and is now maintained by the government as a sightseeing place.

2. Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports

No trip is complete without some fun in the water. At Andaman, there is no better place to do water activities than the Rajiv Gandhi complex. Being the first one ever built in India, the place is truly splendid. The place is built with amazing infrastructure and the games there are fit for adults and kids making it one of the best places for entertainment. You can visit the complex anytime during the day between 10 AM – 6 PM.

3. Samudrika Naval Marine Museum

Situated at the Andaman Teal House is maintained by the Indian Navy. The museum is run and open to the public to create awareness about life in the ocean. The place also exhibits about the island’s ecosystem and marine life and also has a small aquarium on the inside with various species of fishes.
The entry fee to the museum is Rs. 50 and Rs.30 for adults and kids.

4. North Bay Island

Famous for its glorious corals, and scenic landscapes, the island is famous with the travellers. With white-sand beaches, one can laze around and spend the day at leisure or enrol in a few of the best water sports happening at the North Bay Island. Not a diver? Take a glass-bottom boat ride and get mesmerized watching the colourful coral reefs.

5. Mount Harriet National Park, Port Blair

Mt Harriet National Park is said to be the pride of Port Blair. Surrounded by several mountains of tall green trees and wonderful wilderness. The park has been entirely carved out from the forest nearby that showcases the flora and fauna beautifully. Mt Harriet is said to be the highest peak within the group of islands in Andaman. Did you know that it is this mountain that is also featured in the  20Rs note in the Indian Currency? Yes, it is this majestic mountain.
