Perast is a tiny hillside town located in the middle of the Bay of Kotor. The Single main street is overflowing with crumbling bell towers, adorable architecture and romantic seaside cafes. When you are here, make sure to try the Perasaka Torta, a delicious almond cake. Perast is known for its grand marble palazzos, picturesque churches, Renaissance and Baroque palaces, etc. Perast is also houses of one of the most unique chapels in the world.

Any trip to Montenegro is incomplete if Kotor is not a part of the itinerary. Kotor Old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Kotor is well known for its Medieval Roman churches, Venetian palaces, Byzantine towers, St. John’s fort and orange-roofed houses.

3. Durmitor National Park

The Durmitor National Park located at the Northern corner of Montenegro. It is a well-known destination for hiking, kayaking and some other adventure activities. There are a number of trails available here, of them the most famous one is the day hike to the Sumit of Bobotov Kuk. 

Durmitor is a massif located on a plateau that is 1500 m above the sea level. It is surrounded by high mountains, deep canyons and glacial lakes. The dramatic landscape of Durmitor is impressive, which is the reason why it is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Montenegro

4. Lake Skadar

Lake Skadar is the largest lake in the Balkan region. It covers more than 500 sq. km. This lake serves as a nesting ground for migratory and endemic birds. Anytime is the best time, to visit this lake. While there are a number of ways to visit the lake, taking a train from Podgorica to Bar is the highly suggested one. The last leg of this train journey i.e. from Belgrade to Bar is considered as one of the most beautiful train rides in the world

5. Tara River Canyon

Tara River Canyon is the largest canyon in Montenegro and is also the second-largest Canyon in the world. It is also one of the most beautiful natural areas in Montenegro where the waterway flows down from Bosnia and Herzegovina forming a natural border between the two countries.

The water flowing down opens into a gorge. Along the gorge is Durdevica Bridge which is one of the most beautiful spots in Montenegro.

6. Ostrog Monastery

The Ostrog Monastery is one of the most sacred orthodox Christian sites in Montenegro. This monastery rests on a mountain cliff at about 900 m above the Zeta valley. This white monastery is an absolute marvel. The more impressive feature is the colourful iconographic mosaics made by pressing tiny glass and stone directly into the surface of the rock. This monastery without a doubt is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Montenegro

7. Budva Old Town

The Budva Old town is the most-visited place in Montenegro. It is referred to as a more glamorous version of Kotor. Stari Grad, the mini marbled streets and Venetian wall located here is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Budva is not everyone’s cup of tea however, it is indeed worth visiting the stone alleyways of the walled Old town.

8. Sveti Stefan

The Island of Sveti Stefan is located to the south of the Budva and Bay of Kotor. It started its life as a fishing village in the 15th century. Since it was an isolated islet, the island was fortified in order to protect its people from the invasions of Pirates and the Ottomans. The island is now joined to the mainland by a narrow causeway. However, you can access the island only if you are a guest of the Aman hotel. This incredibly beautiful island is without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places to visit in Montenegro. No matter where you stay, the island can be viewed from anywhere.
