Tamblingan Lake Tradition that still follows…

Tamblingan Lake has a very rare story related to its name. The term ‘Tamblingan’ comes from two words: Tamba means medicine, and elingang which means remember or spiritual powers, written in Lontar Kuntara Kanda Dewa Purana Bangsul. The Balinese mythology says the lake is considered to have spiritual significance and healing abilities. As per the Balinese history, the residents around Lake Tamblingan had been attacked by a plague and they didn’t have proper medicine for this sudden outbreak. A saint from the northern part of Bali helped the villagers with the medicine which he has found from the lake Tamblingan. After drinking the water which was taken from the lake by the saint, the villagers of Tamblingan got better and they healed instantly.

Being one of the smallest lakes, Tamblingan is located on the northern slope of Mount Lesung. This lake is still in unblemished condition because the residents of Tambligan and the government take good care of it.

Munduk, Gobleg, Gesing, and Umejero are the villages which are on the vicinity of the lake and the residents of these four villages ensure the sanity of the lake, and the temple and they guard the authentic culture and have preserved the tradition for years.

The Tamblingan lake is nestled on a plateau which is inside an ancient volcanic caldera that possesses several dormant volcanoes. The lake is encircled by the dense rainforest with all its flora and fauna, the perfect place for trekking and camping enthusiasts.
