History and Highlights of the Global Village in Dubai

If you are someone who wants to experience the different cultures and specialities of the world all in one place, then the Global Village in Dubai should be part of your Bucket list. The Global Village in Dubai is a melting pot of all the cultures, cuisines and specialities of the different countries that are present there. It is a giant carnival with pavilions based on different countries, street food stalls, restaurants and cafes from across the world, live performances, stunt and art shows, fantasy world for the kids and the list goes on and on.

The Dubai Global Village was first started in 1996 at a small site next to the Dubai Creek. It started with the intention to showcase the different cultures of the world. It had a couple of countries participating in the first event and small kiosks were set up to showcase the different cultures of those countries. The first Global Village in Dubai was a small scale event without much of hype around it, yet it still managed to attract over 5 lakh visitors from across the world. There has been no stopping the fanfare for the Global Village in Dubai Since then.

A Melting Pot Of Cultures

The Global Village in Dubai takes place over an area covering 17,200,000 S.ft of land featuring multiple zones for various activities and garners close to 5 Million visitors every year.

Every year each pavilion is dedicated to each culture i.e The American Pavilion, The European Pavilion, The Asian Pavilion etc, and each of these pavilions have multiple sub pavilions featuring each specific country. For example, the European Pavilion will feature pavilions of turkey, Russia, Greece, France etc. Each pavilion and sub pavilion is customised to replicate and show the different cultures and specialities of those specific regions.

Shop ‘til you drop: The Global Village in Dubai has something for everyone. It does not just act as one of the world’s largest cultural carnivals, but also as one of the biggest shopping centre’s in the world. The Global Village extravaganza also happens the same time as the Dubai Shopping Festival. The Dubai Shopping Festival is world-famous across shopaholics and attracts millions of shoppers every year.

The Global village in Dubai is a treat for shoppers and collectors alike. It houses the latest collections of top brands and boutiques across the world and also has a lot of local, vintage, antique and homemade products on each of the countries. A Global Village equals a Global Cuisine: What is the one thing that most of us associate and want to experience when it comes to travel? Food. The Global Village in Dubai is every foodie’s paradise. The Global Village in Dubai hosts close to 130 food kiosks ranging from street food to desserts and close to 30 restaurants right from BBQ to Michelin starred fine dining experiences from around the world.

You can have Iranian kebabs for starter, Caprese garlic bread as an appetizer, steak or pizza as your main dish and end it with Turkish ice cream for dessert, you get the image right?

Entertainment Galore: The Global Village in Dubai entertains both kids and adults alike. If you are visiting with kids, you should stop by at the fantasy island in the Global village. The Fantasy island is a collection of rides, games and fun activities aimed at kids. The roller coaster rides are usually enjoyed by the whole family.

The Global village is also famous for its art and cultural performances representing various cultures and countries present in the Global Village Festival. The shows range from concerts to stunt shows and dance performances and celebrity appearances.

Dubai has been a favourite for celebrities since time immemorial. Celebrities from all around the world flock to Dubai for the luxury, comfort and the hospitality that it provides. The recent famous brand ambassador of Dubai being our very own Shahrukh Khan.

The Global village also conducts a famous fireworks show every Thursday and Friday. This is one of the main reasons why those days are the most crowded in the week.

Getting there is easy…

The Global Village in Dubai is located at the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road in central Dubai. It is a 30-minute drive from Deira and a 20-minute drive from Bur Dubai.

The best way to reach the Global village is by Car. You can pre-book a taxi to the Global village or choose to take your car if you have one. There is ample parking space for cars to park at the premises.

You can also reach the Global village by taking the Dubai public transport such as the metro or the bus.

You can also plan and pre-book a day of Dubai sightseeing ending with a visit to the global village as a part of your Dubai tour package.

How much does it cost you to experience it?

The entrance fee for the Global village is 15 AED person which is inclusive of the 5% VAT. It is approximately 320 INR.

It is to be noted that no entrance ticket is needed for children under 3, people with special needs and senior citizens.

What is the best time to visit?

The Global village in Dubai usually happens in the winter months of October to April of the consecutive year. The Global Village festival also shadows the world-famous Dubai Shopping Festival.

The doors for the Global village Dubai open at 4 Pm every day and is open until midnight on the weekdays and until 1 Am on weekends.

Plan your entry into the village as the doors for entry close by 11:30 Pm.

Things to keep in mind when visiting the Global Village in Dubai

  1. The Global Village Festival in Dubai spans across a massive area and it might not be possible to cover everything at one go. Plan before your visit on what are the pavilions and shows that you want to visit. 
  2. The Global Village is a massive event, make sure to stick close to your family as it is easy to get separated in the crowd. 
  3. Make sure to grab to village map to make your navigation is easier. 
  4. If you want to avoid the crowds, you can purchase the skip the line Vip pass which also entails you to some great deals.
  5. Lastly, make sure you dress modestly yet comfortably respecting the local tradition and culture.
