1. Chico Museum

Housed in the landmark Andrew Carnegie Library, right in the centre of thriving downtown Chico, the Chico Museum is committed to showcasing Chico’s past. The Chico Museum is situated adjacent to the California State University campus and includes a number of unforgettable permanent and revolving exhibitions and shows highlighting Chico’s history and its impact on the local area. The museum has two permanent host galleries named the Carnegie and Patrick Galleries, with a topographic map of Northern California, the Chinese Temple and a Native American gallery. 2. Bidwell Park

Bidwell Park is a Chico public community park offering a number of activities and points of interest, including a nature centre. The park stretches 11 kilometres in length and features 3,670 acres of spectacular scenery, varying from rare geological formations such as the sandstone Chico Formation, dense forest canopies and the Municipal Golf Course Chico. Bidwell Park, California’s third-largest public park, is split into Higher, Middle and Lower parts and the park’s points of interest include Sycamore Pool, a stunning pool constructed in the late 1920s with concrete floors, walls and bottom to accommodate Big Chico Creek that provides a special swimming experience. Caper Acres Playground, Cedar Grove, Horseshoe Park, Monkey Face rock formation, Alligator, Bear and Salmon Pool, Diversion Bridge, and Devil’s Kitchen are other things to do in Chico.

3. Butte Creek Ecological Preserve

The Ecological Preserve at Butte Creek is a region of property that preserves Butte Creek and Butte Creek Canyon. Located along 0.9 miles of Butte Creek shoreline, the Preserve offers connectivity to the stream that provides vital habitat for Chinook salmon and stunning views of the nearby canyons lined with spring and summer wildflowers. There is a variety of riparian species in the short canyon along the lake, while the upland ecosystem hosts an abundance of birds and a broad selection of avian species, from ducks and raptors to falcons, shorebirds, and woodpeckers. This is one of the ideal things to do in Chico for swimming during warm summer days and for picnicking on the sandy beaches.

4. Honey Run Covered Bridge

Honey Run Covered Bridge is a perfectly restored covered timber bridge in Butte County that spans Butte Creek. Located in the Honey Run Covered Bridge Park in the scenic Butte Creek Canyon, nearly halfway between Chico and Paradise, Honey Run Covered Bridge is owned by the Honey Run Covered Bridge Association and offers a breathtaking setting for picnics and relaxing. The bridge was built by San Francisco’s American Bridge & Building Company, in response to the need for a route to connect Butte Creek Canyon to the Paradise Ridge following the gold discovery in Butte County. Honey Run, Covered Bridge Park, is also accessible for private gatherings such as celebrations, anniversaries and other occasions and the usage of the facility is subject to a nominal donation charge

5. Chico Theatre Company

The Chico Theatre Company (CTC) is an intimate yet welcoming community theatre, which stages musical yet entertainment performances during the year. The 200 + seat theatre was opened in 2003 with the goal of bringing the local population theatrical recognition and promoting participation in performing arts. The theatre frequently strives to cultivate first-time performers’ abilities and encourage the expertise of seasoned actors with a range of viewers from school classes to adult theatre lovers. Throughout the year the Chico Theatre Company is available Monday through Saturday and is one of the top things to do in Chico.

6. Secret Trail Brewery

The Secret Trail Brewing Company is a community-focused craft brewery situated in the up-and-coming beer district of South Chico’s Barber neighbourhood, making brews and ales in both traditional styles and modern creations. The 3,200 square-foot brewery has a storage plant for 15 barrels and a spacious tasting room with a variety of popular brews like Bout It! About It, Describe It! Northeast Double IPA, Delta Breeze Kolsch, Lights Out Baltic Porter, Charlie & the Pastry Factory Imperial Stout w/ Cacao and Almonds, among others, and Out Of Your Element Hazy Pale Ale. The taproom provides an enjoyable and relaxing space to sample the goods of the brewery and is available from Monday through Sunday, and is closed on Tuesdays.

7. Chico Air Museum

The Chico Air Museum is a museum devoted to artefacts from aviation, planes, and building. The Chico Air Museum was established at Chico Municipal Airport to collect, maintain, and exhibit the history of aviation, aircraft, and space artefacts and educate visitors on the importance of the industry. The museum houses a variety of aircraft, artefacts, and aviation-related exhibits in a well-maintained World War II-era hangar once part of the Chico Army Airfield and located next to the Chico Air Attack Base. The museum also features an exterior static display room, a comprehensive selection of aircraft scale models and a comprehensive aviation research library. Through Thursday through Sunday, the Chico Air Museum is open.
