Originally called Kaludanda(Black hills) due to its appearance, this tiny hill station was founded by Garhwal Rifles regiment under the British rule and is named after the then British viceroy of India, Lord Lansdowne. It is known as Home of the Garhwal Rifles”. Unlike other hill stations, this one is very well connected and very quiet and unexplored. Considering that this is a cantonment town, it as a lot cleaner and well maintained.

This a perfect place in Himachal is a perfect place for backpackers and for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. This small village is located on the banks of River Parvati and is also called as the “Amsterdam of India.” If you are a person who would love to do a lot of activities then this is definitely not the place for you.

Just adjacent to Kasol is another small village named Malana. Apart from been called the hippie’s paradise, it is also called Mini Israel by tourists as it is flooded with young Israelis and is also the best place to get the feel of their culture. The best place to have food would be the local cafes which offer delicious Israeli food with an amazing view of the mountains. Rishikesh
