On the Indian ocean lie the Vanilla islands – a group of countries such as Seychelles, Mauritius, Madagascar, Maldives, Réunion, Comoros, Mayotte. Each is a gem with secluded beaches, crystal clear waters and talcum-soft sand. Yet, Seychelles takes the cake – what with being celebrities’ popular choice for honeymoon and more, the Royal couple Prince William and Kate Middleton, too! Here’s why a Seychelles honeymoon between May and September could be your best idea. EVER.
Any idea with Pickyourtrail is the best idea EVER. Find out why!
#1 Valle de mai

Visit this UNESCO Heritage site to be greeted by tropical emerald greens, rare birds like the bulbul, blue pigeon, black parrot and, of course, the even rarer coco de mer palm. With multiple trails across this National Park, remember to sign up for a guided tour to make the most of the experience.
Note: Free guided visits happen at 9 am and 2 pm.
#2 Anse de lazio

Considered one of the most beautiful in Seychelles, Anse de lazio is a beach lined with large, distinctive, granite boulders in its periphery. With Seychelles’ trademark, soft beach sand and clear waters – except it is devoid of coral reefs, making it an excellent place to go swimming and surfing.
Note: To avoid the crowds, head here any time before 9 am.
#3 Water adventures

Seize the day with your scuba gear, in your swimming gear or, with a surfboard at hand. The ocean is your playground here. Head over to Anse Lazio on Praslin island for a snorkel, to dive around corals jump into the clear waters of Vista Bay Rocks. And once out of the water, survey the coastline side-by-side on horseback.
Note: Reach out to Turquoise Horse Trails for more horseback action.
#4 The Love Nut
Another exclusivity of Seychelles is the Coco de mer tree found in abundance on the Praslin and Curieuse islands. What’s oh-so-exciting about this? Also called double coconut or love nut, it has a distinctive shape – resembling a pelvis. Its fruit is used in both Ayurvedic and Chinese medicines, and as flavour enhancer in Cantonese cuisine. The outer layer of the nut is generally used for making bowls.
Note: Being rare and protected, it is not allowed outside the Seychelles islands. For those raring to find the collectible, they are available on sale at Mahé, Valle de Mai, and Praslin.
#5 Culture – bite-sized at Mahé

Where the fine sands and clear water rule the coast (literally), lies the world’s smallest capital, too! At Victoria, Mahé get your fill of the culture in bite-sized amounts. With creole style houses lining cramped roads, a clock tower, a replica of London’s Vauxhall Bridge Road, a Hindu temple and a vibrant market.
#6 Down the Spice Route
Take a leap back in time and go back to 18th century Seychelles. Explore its Le Jordin du Roi Spice Gardens – once a hub for spices – steeped in scents of cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and more. A little further down, visit the on site museum to delve deeper into the spice trade history and conclude with lunch or an early dinner – bursting with flavours, of course – at the restaurant here.
Note: The Spice Gardens are open from 10 am – 5 pm everyday.
#7 Hiking

At Morne Seychellois National Park in Victoria, Mahé get out those tramping shoes and go hiking together. After being around nature spells rejuvenation and breath of fresh romance. Two trails are up for taking here: Morne Blanc trail and Copolia hiking trail. The Morne Blanc is a scenic walk across tea plantations and a mist forest to the Morne Blanc summit while the Copolia trail goes up a granite hill top to offer breathtaking views of the Mahé.
Note: Both are open from 7 am – 9 pm.
#8 The Royal Rendezvous

That Prince William and Kate Middleton celebrated their honeymoon in Seychelles is not surprising. With miles of seclusion and a tropical climate that remains comfortably warm throughout the year, Seychelles sets the perfect stage for romance. Go island hopping, take a walk through a rainforest, swim or scuba dive to greet the diverse marine life and settle in under the starry skies for dinner and then some.
