Things to do in South Africa

The rainbow nation of South Africa has all it takes to be regarded as one of the best destinations to holiday in, with a long list of things to do on your South Africa package.

Dive headfirst into fun

Known for its blue waters, holiday packages in South Africa offer a lot of activities that let beach bums soak up some sun while exploring the country. For the brave and bold, shark cage diving, kitesurfing and scuba diving are incredible experiences to try. For the ones who like to enjoy the serenity of calm blue waters, a picturesque John Benn sunset cruise will be a memory that lasts a lifetime. Learning to surf the waves at Muizenberg Beach, whale watching in the waters of Cape Town, and kayaking under a full moon or to Boulders Beach to view penguins all promise surreal and unique experiences.

Push your limits with African adventures

South Africa packages have an incredible and endless list of adventurous options to consider. Bungee jumping from Orlando Towers is not only thrilling, but historical, dating back to the end of the Second World War. Or go bungee jumping off the highest bridge in the world at Tsitsikamma. A drive to the Cango caves to explore the underground wonders will leave you awestruck, and taking a table mountain cable car ride will take your breath away with its stunning landscape views.

Stroll through the lanes of history

On South Africa tour packages, history is everywhere. Explore Woodstock’s street art in Capetown, or journey through the rise and fall of Africa on a tour through the Apartheid museum. Visit Robben Island to discover the offshore prison where Mandela was held, and wander through the historic town of Bo-Kaap, with its cobbled streets and brightly painted houses.

Experience wildlife

A trip to Africa is incomplete without seeing some of the world’s fiercest, most regal big cats up close and personal. Opt for a safari experience at Kruger National Park to watch the Big 5. Be sure to prepare for your first African safari experience while packing for your South Africa tourism package. Other unique experiences include riding an ostrich at an ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn and a wildlife horse safari to feel one with nature.

Places to visit in South Africa

Cape Town

South Africa packages are incomplete without the famous Cape Town packages. Kick start your trip at the capital city, brimming with life, with beautiful views everywhere. Be sure to visit the Cape of Good Hope which is a landmark destination for all first-time visitors where you get beautiful panoramic views of the city from the top. The walk to the top is sensational, and you can do a little bird watching since there are more than 250 species of birds and ostriches along the way. They also have the Boulders beach; a stroll on the coast with the crashing waves can be relaxing, and you can find cute African penguins waddling about! These beaches are also some of the top locations for a destination wedding in Africa. Sunrise views at Lion's Head Signal Hill and glorious sunsets at Camps Bay will show you a sky painted in shades of pink and orange, perfect for if you’re on one of our South Africa honeymoon packages. A tour of Cape Winelands is another interesting sight to include on your holiday with our Cape Town packages.

Garden Route

Garden Route is just hours away from Cape Town where you can uncover the animal trail of Africa with an experience that includes going for elephant rides, greeting monkeys, visiting bird sanctuaries, and observing dolphins frolicking near the shores. Garden Route is a gem in Africa’s crown and should be a part of any South Africa packages.

Oom Paul Kruger Parkland

South Africa is known for its legendary life preserves such as the Oom Paul Kruger Parkland. It includes luxury accommodations and thrilling walks with experienced guides. Most of the lodges have interactive programmes for teenagers where they can interact with animals. This is an experience they are sure to remember for a lifetime on their South Africa trip packages.

Hermanus

Another city to keep in mind on your South Africa trip is Hermanus, renowned for its shore-based whale-watching. You can find plenty of whale-watching boat tours here on your South Africa tourism package. Its shallow waters attract whales that migrate each year to mate and breed. A cliff-side walk that is 10 km has viewing telescopes and comfortable benches scattered everywhere to offer visitors plenty of opportunities to view these social animals as they raise their flukes in the sea breezes.

Robben Island

To view a tiny bit of history, take a boat ride to Robben Island, which was an offshore prison that has been turned into a museum. You will have guides who were former inmates, so a good dose of history and prison stories come to life right there.

The Kruger National Park

The Kruger National Park, South Africa’s first national park and Africa’s largest is known for providing varieties of traditional safari experiences that satiate your curiosity towards wildlife. Home to many species, Kruger is specialized in safari rides that give you a tour of the big 5 - buffalos, elephants, lions, leopards and rhinos. All this makes Kruger an unmissable experience you would be remiss to skip on any South Africa tour packages.

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, one of the largest wilderness areas in the world, is the official merger of the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park and the Gemsbok National Park. Thorny trees, red sands, golden, wispy grasslands, and rich blue skies provide a surreal background for game viewing. The park is a vast conservation area that is home to the famous black-maned Kalahari lions, migrating herds of wildebeest, gemsbok, springbok, and eland. Other predators like lions, cheetahs, and leopards can also be viewed here.

Johannesburg

Moving to Johannesburg, we have the Gold Reef City, a must-visit when you’re planning your South Africa package trip. The amusement park is perfect for an entertaining family day with different water rides, roller coasters and casinos for the adults alone. Located on a gold mine, the amusement park demonstrates how gold is melted and poured into barrels. The Nelson Mandela National Museum can also be covered on your Johannesburg packages, where Mandela lived from 1946 to 1962. Also, get close to Africa's incredible wildlife at Lion's Park, a conservation enclosure for lions, cheetahs, hyena, wild dogs and more.

Drakensberg

Drakensberg, a mountainous region that forms the boundary between South Africa and Lesotho, will inspire you with its stunning landscapes. The word Drakensberg, derived from the Dutch language meaning Dragon Mountains, is home to the country's largest peaks, which are popular with fitness enthusiasts who hike the scenic trails, rock climb, parasail, go fishing, and go rafting on the fast-flowing rivers. For a great way to appreciate Drakensberg's dramatic topography, opt for a hot air balloon ride on holiday packages in South Africa.

Trip to SA -The itinerary planning was sloppy from start. Couple of swapping of hotels without reasons being said. Due to the swap of hotel in Capetown, things were bit not in favour for tourists. The hotel had no parking and they had paid valet parking. And then the entry and exit of the hotel leads to a square inn with refugees staying there. No complaints on the refugees, but just that they stare at the tourists which we wouldnt feel secure.Miscalculation of driving timings while planning.A practical knowledge on the places will help them probably in planning. The place itself, activities over there, the hospitality by the locals and the support team from PYT were great. South Africa is a beautiful place indeed. Thanks to Sunil, Alex, Preetha and the other support members.

I for India, an Indian Event Management Company from UK Organised a trip for its patrons to South Africa in Dec 2019 for Christmas and New Year. The group had 42 members in total (12 families). The planning started as early as Feb 2019 for the holiday in Dec 2019.Before finalising on Pick Your Trail (PYT), we obtained competitive quotes from various vendors and finally finalised it with PYT based on the professional approach they exhibited, attention to detail and of course competitive pricing.Since Feb 2019 to Dec 2019 we had a very pleasant journey with PYT – especially Sanjay in planning the itinery, hotel, sight seeing, food choices and Sanjay was able to cater to all our requirements. We had regular conference calls at various stages to make sure all the things were addressed.PYT helped us in choosing the right partners based on our requirements and made the holiday an excellent experience. We are a large Indian community in UK and would definitely recommend PYT to our wider circles and patrons. We are also planning our Dec 2020 group holiday with them.

Wonderful experience! A very pro active team both before and during the tour. We got in touch with PYT to plan our honeymoon trip to South Africa. They were very pro active in planning out an itinerary which fits our budget and also made prompt changes as we suggested. Their support during the trip is also commendable, someone is always in touch to answer last minute queries eg identifying indian restaurants around your hotel etc.
