The Hague Self-Guided Walking Audio Tour

Haarlem is the home of several historic "hofjes", closed courtyards, where houses for the poor or elderly were established, mostly paid for by testamentary bequest of a rich member of a prominent family. Hofjes are often small quiet paradises in the middle of the busy city. However, het "Hofje van Oorschot" can only be admired from behind a closed gate, no admittance for outsiders.


This is more than a museum. It is the story of a family who's strong faith in their Lord Jesus led them to join the underground efforts in the Netherlands during WWII. The audio tour tells you the story but please feel free to pause the tour and visit this Must Do.

The Vleeshal is a historical building dating from 1603 on the Grote Markt in Haarlem. Vlees means meat!


The City Hall in Haarlem is the seat of the city's government. It was built in the 14th century replacing the Count's castle.

This is a beer brewery from Haarlem. Jopen beer is a result of the work of Stichting Haarlems Biergenootschap, which was founded in 1992. Great to have a drink or bite.

De Vijfhoek is a neighborhood in the Haarlem district of Oude Stad in the Haarlem-Centre district. You will walk in great small streets, while listening to some great historic stories.

Which is also known as the "Museum of the Golden Age." The collection is based on the rich collection of the city itself, built up from the 16th century onwards. With lots of work from Frans Hals, where the museum is named after.


The Grote Houtstraat is the large shopping street that goes all through Haarlem Centrum. From this point on it is very easy to get back to the train station or the starting point.

Haarlem Old Town Private Walking Tour 

We will meet with you near the Starbucks at the Haarlem Central train station. 

In the heart of the city you will find the beautiful Vrijthof. This special square is known as the setting for André Rieu 's summer concerts. With all the pubs and bars around a place to visit.

It takes its name from the goods markets that have been held here for centuries. Markt is also home to Maastricht’s City Hall and a large number of cafés and restaurants. 

It is the main street of the Stokstraatkwartier, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Maastricht. The northern part of the street is now called Kleine Stokstraat. The street is known for its historic appearance, the many national monuments and luxury shops

The bridge of Maastricht. The Romans had a bridge built to connect the banks of the Meuse. When this bridge collapsed in 1275, the bridge was rebuilt with stone arches

The Helpoort is the only large city gate of Maastricht that has been preserved. 

The intimate atmosphere of Onze Lieve Vrouweplein is largely determined by the limited dimensions of the square and the presence of large trees, the basilica and the many cafes.

The Basilica of Saint Servatius is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Servatius. The mainly Romanesque church is situated next to the Gothic church of Saint John, backing onto the town's main square, Vrijthof.

The Dinghuis served mainly administrative and judicial functions (a ding/thing being a judicial assembly), and its cellars contained gaols for holding prisoners. In 1713, the Dinghuis also served as a theater. Today, it is home to the town's visitor center.

The Oude Minderbroederklooster is a former Franciscan monastery in the cozy center of Maastricht. Full of nice bars and restaurants, few people know this area.
