Haarlem is the home of several historic "hofjes", closed courtyards, where houses for the poor or elderly were established, mostly paid for by testamentary bequest of a rich member of a prominent family. Hofjes are often small quiet paradises in the middle of the busy city. However, het "Hofje van Oorschot" can only be admired from behind a closed gate, no admittance for outsiders.

De Vijfhoek is a neighborhood in the Haarlem district of Oude Stad in the Haarlem-Centre district. You will walk in great small streets, while listening to some great historic stories.

Welcome to The Schreierstoren or The Weeping Tower! Don’t worry, you have nothing to cry about! Initially built as a defense tower in the 15th century, this place reminiscent of the medieval city of Amsterdam discloses some of the most fascinating stories. Its name comes from the fact that women wept there for their husbands, who would often leave from that port to go to war or to fishing. Either way, they were unsure if they would see their beloved ones again, so this place emotionally remained in history as a “departing spot”.

But on a more optimistic note, the Weeping Tower is also famous for being the location from which Henry Hudson set sail on his journey to Northern America that lead to the discovery of the Manhattan Island. Nowadays, you can enjoy a coffee here in a nautical bookstore while searching for the next clue that Questo has prepared for you. Look around! Who knows, maybe you are sitting next to it.

Now, you reached the most iconic place in the world where you can drive or walk on the red light! The Grote Markt of Antwerp is a town square situated in the heart of the old city quarter. It is filled with an extravagant city hall, numerous elaborate 16th century guildhalls, many restaurants and cafés. Lying within walking distance of the Scheldt river, it hosts a Christmas market and ice rink in winter.

The Hofje van Oorschot is a Haarlem courtyard that dates from 1769 and is located in the center of Haarlem, at Kruisstraat no. 44, on the corner with Krocht.

Bakenes was originally a spit of land southeast of the center of Haarlem, almost enclosed by a bend in the Spaarne. The name is probably derived from nes (nose) and refers to the shape of the headland, on which a beacon for the ships would have stood.[2] In the 14th century this area came to lie within the city limits of Haarlem; previously the Bakenessergracht was the border of Haarlem. In the 1930s there were plans to fill in the canal. This was prevented by, among other things, the efforts of the Rijnlandsche Academy, founded by Harry Prenen and Godfried Bomans.

The Waag ("weigh house") is a 15th-century building on Nieuwmarkt square in Amsterdam. It was originally a city gate and part of the walls of Amsterdam. Later it served as a guildhall, museum, fire station and anatomical theatre, among other things.

The Waag is the oldest remaining non-religious building in Amsterdam.[1] The building was listed as a national monument (rijksmonument) in 1970.[2]

The Waag is depicted in Rembrandt's 1632 painting The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp. The surgeons' guild commissioned this painting for their guildhall in the Waag.
