By Air

If you are travelling from the north of India or any other country, the best way to reach Agatti Island would be through the flight. There are direct flights from various cities throughout the week. From Kochi, you can hire a cruise or go on a boat ride to reach Agatti Island.

By Road

For the people residing in the southern part of India, reaching Kerala is easy. For many, it is can be reached easily on the road. Car drives become more fun and special when driving with your friends and family. From Kochi, reach the port and then take a boat ride to Agatti Island. If you plan on a bus ride, the nearest bus station is Kasaragod in Kerala, which is 360 kilometres away from the island.

By Train

Just like road travel, train travel to the island isn’t directly possible. The nearest station is Bekal Fort and Kottikkulam. You can book a train either of these destinations after which you can take a cruise to reach the island.

Do you need a permit to enter the island?

Yes, you do need a permit to enter to the island. Be it Indian nationals or Foreign nationals, anyone who wishes to enter the island does need a permit. The permit can be obtained by filling in an application available online. Post which, the duly filled form needs to be submitted at the Station House Office or Registration office. These offices are located in Wellington Island, Kochi.

What is the best time to visit Agatti Island?

The most suitable or ideal time to visit Agatti Island is between the months of October and March. The climate here during these months is very pleasant. The sea stays calm making it a good time for a sea journey. The summers here are between the months of April to May. During summer, the temperature here goes up to 35-degree Celsius and falls down to 22-degree Celsius. The island also enjoys a heavy monsoon rainfall occasionally.

Things to know before visiting the island

It is easy to explore the island on your feet.
You cannot carry alcohols to the island.
Networks like Airtel and BSNL have good network coverage here.
Carry plenty of cash in hand. Not many stores accept cash.
Foreign nationals cannot stay the night on Agatti Islands. They are welcome to stay at the Bangaram or Minicoy or Thinnikara islands.
Indian nationals are allowed to stay the night on the island.
The locals on the island are very friendly. Try having a small conversation with them to know more about the history and culture of the island.

As mentioned above, the Indian nationals are allowed to stay there in the night. The island has got only two resorts on the entire land. The bookings for these resorts have to be done well in advance. This is practised to limit the number of tourists visiting the island. Both these resorts have all basic amenities like Gym, Wifi, Spa, Shuttle services, etc, and they provide a luxury stay.
