Let’s talk about science and the universe. I am sure everyone had been fascinated by them every once in a while and some might have even visited a planetarium to know more about them. For those who haven’t, and for those who are vacationing at Kerala and are not sure where to head to, well, visit the Priyadarshini Planetarium, one of the best tourist places in Trivandrum.
The planetarium has been open to the public since 1994. The planetarium is well equipped with starfield projectors, simulators and everything that let you see space. These projectors even let you see the location of the planets and stars at any given day, it may be in the past or in the future. Sounds interesting right? The place has been focusing mainly on educating on how fun space and science is. The planetarium also lets the public experience the wonders of VR (Virtual Reality). Priyadarshini Planetarium hosts show in two different languages, Malayalam and English, making it understandable for everyone.
The entry fee for children between the age group of 3 – 10 years is INR 40 per kid and for anyone aged 11 years and above, the entry fee is INR 75 per person.
If you are a group of people, there are some offers to get the tickets at a discounted price. There are such offers available for schools and colleges as well at INR 30 per person.
However, these prices are only for the entry and few attractions. If you wish to enter other attractions, tickets must be purchased at an additional cost. Such as:-
Priyadarshini Planetarium is open on all days of the week except Mondays. The open hours of the planetarium are between 10 AM – 12 noon and 3 PM – 5 PM on all days.
There are several shows that run in the planetarium in different languages. The shows play in Malayalam at 10:30 AM, 3 PM and 5 PM. The English version of the show plays at 12 PM every day on all working days.
The Priyadarshini Planetarium is located close to the Trivandrum city centre. The planetarium is situated about roughly a 6-minute drive from the city centre and can be reached by either taking an auto or by self-driving.
Instead, If you wish to take the public transport, you can take KSRTC bus (the state bus of Kerala) and get down at PMG Junction or the KSRTC Depot. From there, the planetarium is at a walkable distance.
