It is home to some of the most iconic tourist attractions, including the sparkling waters of the Great Barrier Reef and the renowned Sydney Opera House. This Australia tourism guide will assist you in planning an ideal Australian vacation, including the best attractions, travel tips and best times to visit. For Indian travellers, it's also a well-connected long-haul destination, with most Indian metros routing through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, or Dubai to reach gateway cities like Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth, and you can browse Australia packages departing from Mumbai, Chennai, or Delhi for India-specific itineraries and pricing. Be it outdoor activities in the rugged terrain of Australia, enjoying your glass of fine wine in the Barossa Valley or hiking in the ancient rainforests, this Australia travel guide will help you find your way through the amazing landscape of Australia.
Key Takeaways
Australia offers year-round travel opportunities across four distinct climate zones, with spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) being ideal for most visitors.
Sydney serves as the main international gateway, with excellent flight connections from India via Air Asia, Singapore Airlines, and other major carriers.
Budget between Rs. 2,50,000 to Rs. 4,00,000 per person for a 7-10 day Australia trip from India, including flights, accommodation, and experiences.
Indian travellers need a tourist visa that allows stays up to 3 months, with applications processed online through the official Australian immigration portal.
Australia's diverse experiences range from world-class cities to natural wonders, making it perfect for beach lovers, adventure seekers, and culture enthusiasts alike.
Best Time to Visit Australia: Weather, Seasons, and Travel Tips
Australia is a vast continent that enjoys eight different climatic zones. The best time to visit Australia depends on the landscape you want to explore.
Weather and Seasonal Guide

Summer (December – February)
Summer in Australia brings hot weather with temperatures ranging between 25°C and 35°C. This implies that the southern cities like Sydney and Melbourne are perfect for beach activities, while the northern regions can experience tropical rain and humidity.
Note for Indian travellers: December to February is the peak travel season due to Christmas, New Year, and school holidays. Flights and hotels get booked quickly and are more expensive, so families should book at least 2–3 months in advance.

Winter (June – August)
Winter in Australia is ideal for exploring the northern regions of the continent. The dry season in the northern regions is very comfortable with plenty of sunshine, making it the best time to visit the Great Barrier Reef. Southern cities are colder, and the ski season begins in the snow-covered mountains.
Note for Indian travellers: June–August falls outside the usual Indian holiday calendar, so this is typically the more affordable window for flights and hotels, worth considering if your dates are flexible.

How to Reach Australia from India
The best way to reach Australia from India is by flight. Australia is a genuine long-haul journey from India, but connectivity has improved significantly. Air India operates direct, nonstop flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Sydney and Melbourne, cutting travel time to roughly 12-13 hours one-way. Qantas also flies nonstop on select India-Australia routes.
If you're departing from other Indian cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, or Kolkata, you'll typically connect through a hub city. The most common layover points are Singapore (Singapore Airlines), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia Airlines/AirAsia), or Dubai (Emirates), with total journey times ranging from around 15 to 20 hours depending on layover length. Connecting flights are often cheaper than nonstop options, so it's worth comparing both if your dates are flexible.
Tips: Book 2-3 months ahead for better fares, especially if travelling in the Dec-Feb or school-holiday windows.
Australia Transportation: Getting Around the City and Travel Tips
Sydney serves as the main international airport in Australia, which receives several airlines from major Indian cities, including Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore.
Getting Around Australia
Each city in Australia offers excellent public transport for exploring between the cities and rural areas.
- Sydney: Sydney has a comprehensive bus, train, and ferry network.
- Melbourne: The free tram network of Melbourne makes exploring around the city easy.
- Brisbane: Brisbane has buses, trains and the CityCat ferry service line along the Brisbane River.
- Taxis and Ride-Sharing Services: Ride-sharing services (Uber, Ola, and DiDi) are very common in the cities.
Note for Indian travellers: An Indian driving licence is valid for short-term self-driving in most Australian states, but carrying an International Driving Permit alongside it is recommended, especially for road trips like the Great Ocean Road.
Best Hotels in Australia by Budget: Luxury, Mid-Range & Budget Stays

Pickyourtrail was the best thing that happened to us this year.. it was such a pleasure to have them coordinate our tour to Australia..Being frequent travellers, myself and my family had a hussle free vacation.. Even though it was a last minute plan from our end, they made sure everything was ready for us, from beginning till the last day of our tour. Their team did a splendid job indeed.. We loved Srishty a lot.. She made sure we were on board with them from the 1st call, and coordinated throughout.. She was very easy to approach and responded so promptly always.. Srishty is an asset to your team.. Special thanks to Chandramouli and Gaurav who supported us throughout. When we were in Australia, they followed up so closely, we didnt have to fret even once..As for the trip, it was beautifully customised and we were able to enjoy everything.. We loved the leisure time we got, due to their well organised tour plan.. Thanks for the ideal vacation..Looking forward for more such vacations guys..

Had a super awesome trip to Australia, all planned and booked through Pickyourtrail. The 11 days was an unforgettable experience for us, made possible by the great peeps at PYT. The visa process and overall booking experience was hassle free and super easy. Would recommend PYT to anyone wishing to have a great experience. Suggestion for improvement: The app suggested some good tips like the different plug point in Australia that helped us prepare for it. Wouldve been great if the app suggested a low exchange rate credit card for use internationally.

The best friends trip to Australia was amazing. We are very happy with your service - right from the choice of destination, planning day wise itinerary, booking hotels and tours, visa application and also the prompt response from your team 24*7 during the trip. The airlines chosen was one of the best. The hotel stay at Sheraton Melbourne and Ibis Sydney were a great experience. All the tour guides / operators provided for day tours were knowledgeable, courteous and friendly. All the pickups and drops to and fro from the airport were dot on time. Overall an awesome experience with PYT. Special mention of Aadhil, Manoj and Rinchen who have made this happen for us. Keep up the good work and we hope to book more memories through you in the future.

Had a 10 day trip to Australia. 1. During the entire trip, the support (particularly Gaurav from Customer Experience) was always just a ping away. They resolved every query within a few minutes and I never felt left out or stranded during the entire trip. 2. All my questions before the trip was answered and the team was proactively calling me up to know if i have any questions about the activities or the plan in general. 3. The hotels booked were in perfect locations and had access to public transport and food. Everything was at walkable distance and made my spontaneous planning a breeze. 4. The Cairns river tubing provider was AWESOME and gave us a real good experience. Overall, pickyourtrail is my pick for any trip :)

Had a wonderful holiday in Australia (Perth and Adelaide) thanks to the customised meticulous arrangements by pickyourtrail team right from travel in Australia, air tickets, activity suggestions and arrangements and hotel booking. Balabharathi was always in touch throughout the 9 day period making sure all minor issues were sorted out and sending reminders of the next day's shchedule. Even when one activity was cancelled due to unforseen circumstances, the team quickly acted on my suggestion and made sure the activity took place. The high level of committment and professionalism by Balabharathi and the pyt team is indeed commendable. Recommend them for all holidays, domestic and international.

My experience with PYT was great. The Visa team(Afrose) answered all my queries and provided proper assistance in getting me the AU visa. There were few misunderstandings with the PYT sales team but SriRaman (account owner) helped clear up all my concerns. On one occasion when one of the internal flights got cancelled as the airlines went under and I wasnt aware of the cancellation, he took initiative in getting me tickets on another airline even though it was a holiday for him. The support team followed up with me regularly during the trip to see if I needed any assistance. Overall, it was a good trip and I enjoyed it.

Feedback for Pickyourtrail (8/10): Pros: The service was truly impeccableby far the best I have experienced in the travel industry. The speed of response from Chandana was phenomenal, and I was genuinely impressed with how efficiently everything was managed. The tailor-made itinerary from Evans was perfectly suited to our needs. A standout feature was the 24*7 supportyou could text them anytime during the trip with any doubt, and they were always quick to respond. Cons: The hotel in Melbourne, while having a good room, lacked housekeeping, which was a bit of a drawback. Additionally, more guidance on the nightlife in Australia would have been helpful, especially noting that most places close around 5-6 PM. Some insights into the actual city vibes would have enhanced the experience. Another issue was with the Boxing Day Test match. We were promised Day 1 tickets, but they got sold out, and we had to settle for Day 2 tickets instead, which was a bit of compromise. Overall, a great trip organized with top-notch service, and I look forward to planning future vacations with Pickyourtrail!

Overall, we had a wonderful experience, and Id highly recommend Pickyourtrail to anyone looking for a seamless and well-supported travel experience.
