We thoroughly enjoyed our Sri Lanka trip with Pickyourtrail. Travelling abroad with the entire family can sometimes be tiring, especially for senior citizens, but everything was arranged very thoughtfully. Our guide was particularly caring. He would tell us in advance if a sightseeing place required a difficult climb and would suggest something else for us to see while the younger members of the family went ahead. This allowed us to enjoy the holiday at our own pace without feeling that we were missing out. We are all vegetarians, and he was always helpful in finding suitable restaurants and Indian food for us. This was something we were initially concerned about, but it was handled very well. The vehicle provided was spacious and comfortable, and both the driver and helper were very polite and helpful. The hotel arrangements were also convenient, especially having our family rooms close together. We came back with very happy memories. Thank you Pickyourtrail and the team in Sri Lanka for taking such good care of our family.

Located about 10 kilometers from the center of vibrant Colombo, the Berjaya Hotel Colombo provides comfortable 4-star accommodation for visitors eager to explore Sri Lanka’s capital and beyond during a 3 nights to Colombo Sri Lanka itinerary. This stay includes unique day excursions, such as a cultural tour to Kandy departing in the morning and ending late evening, and a nature-filled day at Bentota featuring river rides and exciting water sports on the Indian Ocean. The itinerary’s blend of history, wildlife, and ocean adventure highlights the rich variety accessible within a short time frame, perfect for travelers wanting more than just city sightseeing in their limited stay.
By focusing on local experiences such as the Temple of the Tooth Relic and a turtle hatchery, this plan delivers a balance that appeals to those interested in both cultural heritage and outdoor activities. It’s a practical choice for visitors who want their 3 nights to Colombo Sri Lanka to be fully packed with meaningful and varied excursions.
Delve into Colombo’s Cultural Roots and Market Life
Colombo’s history as a major port city comes alive through its architecture and landmarks. Though the Berjaya Hotel is situated in Mount Lavinia, about 9.85 km from the city center, it offers a peaceful retreat after busy days in Colombo’s core districts.
The city center features Pettah Market, an area rich with colors, scents, and sounds where local commerce buzzes from early morning. Nearby, the Colombo National Museum offers insight into the island’s diverse heritage and ancient trade influences. Viharamahadevi Park, adjacent to the museum, is home to a large Buddha statue and a green space perfect for relaxation.
- Berjaya Hotel Colombo rooms include convenient amenities like minibars and free Wi-Fi, ensuring comfort after full-day outings.
- The rooftop terrace and garden provide lovely views to unwind with a drink.
- Buffet breakfasts are available daily, though at an extra cost, so budget accordingly.
Kandy Day Excursion: A Full Day of Wildlife, Gardens, and Sacred Sites
One of the itinerary’s highlights is the day trip to Kandy, beginning early in the morning from Colombo. It immerses travelers in Sri Lanka’s cultural heart and natural beauty packed within a thoughtful route.
- The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage invites guests to watch rescued elephants bathing by the river, an unforgettable wildlife experience.
- The Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens impress with its expansive collection of tropical plants and carefully designed landscapes—ideal for nature lovers.
- Visitors then attend the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, a significant Buddhist pilgrimage spot where dress codes favor modest attire.
- The day concludes with a vibrant Kandyan Cultural Show featuring traditional dance and music, also from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, providing insight into local heritage and art forms.
Note that entrance fees vary by nationality and must be paid on site; carrying a passport copy is required during the tour. The late return to Colombo (around 10:30 PM) means this activity demands energy but rewards with an enriching and comprehensive glimpse of Sri Lanka’s cultural treasures.
Explore Bentota’s Natural Serenity and Coastal Thrills
The second featured excursion takes travelers south from Colombo to Bentota, where natural calm meets adventure. Starting with a boat ride on the Madhu River, guests glide through mangroves rich in birdlife, creating a peaceful morning immersed in nature.
Next is a visit to the sea turtle hatchery, vital for conservation efforts. Here rescued turtles are nurtured and later released into the sea, offering a close-up look at wildlife protection in action.
The afternoon opens to thrilling water sports on the Indian Ocean, ideal for active travelers seeking excitement beyond traditional sightseeing. Activities are available for various skill levels, balancing leisure and adrenaline.
- Passport copies are mandatory on this tour as well.
- Entrance tickets also must be bought on-site with differing prices for locals, SAARC nationals, and international visitors.
This day trip contrasts nicely with Colombo’s urban feel and Kandy’s cultural emphasis, rounding out the 3 nights to Colombo Sri Lanka with diverse experiences.
Accommodation Insights: Staying at Berjaya Hotel Colombo
While conveniently close to the airport and coastal areas, Berjaya Hotel Colombo is about 9.85 km from the heart of Colombo city. Travelers should plan transport accordingly, especially for evening activities in the city center or early morning departures.
The hotel features 95 air-conditioned rooms equipped with desks, minibars, and cable TV, supporting both leisure and any work needs. The outdoor pool and rooftop terrace are nice spots to relax after full days of visiting landmarks.
- Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
- Buffet breakfasts cost extra, so budgeting for meals outside or room service (offered in limited hours) might suit some guests better.
- Free on-site self-parking makes it convenient for those renting cars.
Though the distance to central Colombo means some travel time is unavoidable, the hotel’s amenities and peaceful location near Mount Lavinia’s coast provide a comfortable base for this itinerary’s mix of city, culture, and nature.
Planning Tips for a Well-Paced 3 Nights to Colombo Sri Lanka
This itinerary offers a lot within a short timeframe, so managing timing and energy levels is key. The Kandy day trip involves early start times and late returns, which might be tiring, especially combined with Bentota’s full day of outdoor activities.
To maximize your experience:
- Wear comfortable walking shoes and light, modest clothing especially for temple visits.
- Carry a passport copy at all times for entrance to national sites as required.
- Consider how you will handle meals, since hotel breakfasts are extra, and some excursions do not include lunch.
- Book local transport in advance to avoid delays, as the hotel’s distance from downtown means relying on taxis or arranged transfers.
By addressing these practical points, travelers can enjoy this itinerary’s rich variety of cultural and natural highlights without unnecessary stress.
Why This 3 Nights to Colombo Sri Lanka Trip Is Worth Your Time
With just three nights in Sri Lanka’s capital area, travelers often feel pressed for time or overwhelmed by too many options. This itinerary stands out because it blends Colombo’s urban history and markets with two distinct day trips that showcase the island’s cultural depth and coastal beauty.
The visits to Kandy and Bentota focus on immersive experiences—like observing elephants bathing or witnessing traditional Kandyan dance—which go beyond sightseeing to connect you with Sri Lanka’s living heritage and ecosystems. While the hotel location means some travel time, the comfortable Berjaya Hotel Colombo offers a restful haven to recharge.
Ultimately, this 3 nights to Colombo Sri Lanka itinerary offers a satisfying balance of city exploration, wildlife encounters, cultural enrichment, and water adventures that few short stays manage to combine so effectively.
Choosing the 3 nights to Colombo Sri Lanka trip means embracing a journey rich in contrasts—from the colonial echoes within Colombo’s streets to the natural wonders of elephant sanctuaries and coastal watersports. Travelers gain a genuine appreciation for the island’s cultural and ecological variety within a limited schedule. Although the Berjaya Hotel’s location requires managing some travel time to the city center, the overall diversity of experiences well justifies the effort. This itinerary meets the needs of those who want their brief Sri Lankan visit to extend beyond typical urban tours, wrapping up days filled with culture, wildlife, and active adventure.

I booked a trip to Sri Lanka with PickyourTrail for ten members of my family. This is the second trip that I have booked with PickyourTrail. They have done an excellent job right from creating the itinerary to ensuring that we have the right vehicle, you know, giving us details of the hotel, following up every single day during the trip, arranging cakes for two special occasions and finally extending bus timings during the drop-off as well. They have certainly gone above and beyond and made the experience quite memorable. They were always present when required for help, they've always followed up with us. and that I think is absolutely delightful customer support. Would definitely book any future vacations, especially those with families with them as it is a hassle free experience.

I had a great experience planning my Sri Lanka trip with PickYourTrail. The itinerary was well organized, the hotels matched what was promised, and all transfers were smooth. The app was easy to use, and having all the vouchers and travel details in one place made the trip stress-free. What stood out the most was their customer support. They were responsive whenever I had questions before the trip and were flexible in helping customize parts of my itinerary. Everything went largely as planned, which made traveling solo much more comfortable. A couple of small improvements could be providing final travel documents a little earlier and offering more proactive suggestions for local experiences, but these were minor and didnt affect the overall experience. Overall, Id happily recommend PickYourTrail to anyone looking for a hassle-free, well-planned international holiday. Looking forward to booking another trip with them in the future!

Had an amazing experience with PYT for our Sri Lanka trip. Right from planning to execution, everything was handled seamlessly. A big thanks to Kamali for putting together a well-balanced itinerary that perfectly covered all key places without feeling rushed. Ragul ensured a smooth pre-boarding experience, guiding us clearly through all the requirements and making the start of the trip completely stress-free. During the trip, Harikrishna was extremely responsive and supportive. It was reassuring to have someone available at all times for any queries or coordination, this really made a difference. The overall arrangements, driver, vehicle, travel flow, and experiences, were excellent. Everything was well-organized and executed professionally. The only area of improvement would be one of the hotel stays in Bentota, which didnt meet expectations. Apart from that, the entire trip was fantastic. Overall, a great experience with PYT. Would definitely recommend them for a hassle-free and well-managed vacation.

We chose Pick Your Trails for our Sri Lanka holiday to celebrate our babys first birthday, and it was an excellent decision. The trip was thoughtfully planned and well executed, making the entire experience smooth and stress-free for us as parents. There was a minor check-in issue at the Bentota hotel on the first day from the hotels side, but apart from that, everything was handled efficiently by the team. Special thanks to Austin for the planning and to Adithyan, Nimmy, Abhinaya, and Devi for their timely support throughout the trip. The driver was polite, the stays were comfortable, and the journey felt seamless overall. It truly became a memorable first birthday celebration for our baby.
