We thoroughly enjoyed our Sri Lanka trip with Pickyourtrail. Travelling abroad with the entire family can sometimes be tiring, especially for senior citizens, but everything was arranged very thoughtfully. Our guide was particularly caring. He would tell us in advance if a sightseeing place required a difficult climb and would suggest something else for us to see while the younger members of the family went ahead. This allowed us to enjoy the holiday at our own pace without feeling that we were missing out. We are all vegetarians, and he was always helpful in finding suitable restaurants and Indian food for us. This was something we were initially concerned about, but it was handled very well. The vehicle provided was spacious and comfortable, and both the driver and helper were very polite and helpful. The hotel arrangements were also convenient, especially having our family rooms close together. We came back with very happy memories. Thank you Pickyourtrail and the team in Sri Lanka for taking such good care of our family.

  3. 3 Nights To Kandy And Colombo

Set in the heart of Sri Lanka, the journey of 3 nights to Kandy and Colombo invites travelers to uncover a dual narrative of cultural depth and colonial legacies. Starting in Kandy, the city revolves around the tranquil Kandy Lake and the famed Temple of the Tooth Relic, key to the island’s Buddhist heritage. With a hotel located about 5.78 km from the city center, the Radisson Hotel Kandy offers a comfortable base for exploring. Over three nights, visitors enjoy a thoughtfully paced exploration that balances iconic temples, botanical gardens, and a lively cultural dance performance with a shift to Colombo’s bustling streets and seaside promenade. The itinerary carefully combines historical sites, nature, and urban coastal charm, providing a well-rounded glimpse of Sri Lanka’s diverse attractions.

The appeal lies in experiencing the cultural richness of Kandy alongside the colonial character and ocean views of Colombo, all without rushing through either city.

Cultural Treasures in Kandy: More Than Just a Shrine

Kandy is not only home to the Temple of the Tooth Relic but also offers a layered experience of Sri Lanka's spiritual and natural heritage. This itinerary includes a curated day trip beginning at the Kataragama Devalaya, a significant spiritual site, followed by a stroll through the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, known for its extensive collection of flora. Guests will also visit the Gem Museum, which highlights the island’s rich gemological history.

The day culminates with a Kandyan cultural dance performance in the evening, showcasing traditional artistry and costume with vibrant storytelling. Note that entrance tickets to these sites are not included in the package price and vary by nationality, which is something travelers should budget for accordingly. Carrying a passport copy is mandatory for most sites, ensuring smooth entry.

Rest and Relaxation: Where You'll Stay in Kandy and Colombo

The overnight stays are split between two notable 4-star hotels that blend comfort with locale advantages. In Kandy, the Radisson Hotel stands approximately 5.78 km from the city center, offering amenities like a fitness center, outdoor pool, and daily housekeeping. While a shuttle or taxi is necessary to reach Kandy’s core attractions, the hotel provides a tranquil retreat after busy days.

Colombo accommodation at the Berjaya Hotel is located about 9.85 km from the bustling city center, in Mount Lavinia, a seaside suburb. This location offers a quieter environment, rooftop terraces, and garden views, but requires some travel to central Colombo landmarks such as Pettah Market and the National Museum. Both hotels include daily buffet breakfasts for an extra fee, and free self-parking is available on-site.

Experience Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage: A Special Half-Day Visit

A highlight while staying in Kandy is the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage half-day trip, offering an intimate look at Sri Lanka's iconic elephants. The orphanage is set in lush surroundings and provides insight into the animals' care and conservation efforts. Visitors can watch the daily bathing ritual, an especially photogenic moment near the river.

This visit is ideal for families and nature enthusiasts alike. It's a relaxed experience, with ample opportunities for memorable photographs. However, keep in mind this is a half-day excursion, so planning logistics around it is important to avoid rushed schedules.

Colombo's Colonial and Coastal Charms: A Guided City Tour

Upon returning to Colombo, the itinerary incorporates a guided city highlights tour that introduces travelers to the capital’s blend of old and new. Key stops include Galle Face Green, a popular seaside promenade along the Indian Ocean where locals gather for strolls and street food evenings.

The National Museum reveals Sri Lanka’s extensive cultural history, while the Fort District provides a chance to admire colonial architecture mixed with modern urban life. Finally, Independence Square, with its expansive lawns and historic buildings, offers a reflective space amid the city bustle.

This tour balances the city's architectural heritage with coastal relaxation, rounding out the cultural immersion started in Kandy.

Planning Ahead: What to Know About Timing and Tickets

  • Most cultural sites in Kandy require entrance tickets purchased on-site; prices differ by nationality.
  • Kandyan cultural dance performances typically happen in the evening, so plan your day accordingly.
  • Hotel breakfasts are served from 7 AM to 10:30 AM; confirm if included with your booking.
  • Transport between hotels and city centers requires taxis or arranged transfers, especially in Colombo where the hotel is nearly 10 km from the center.
  • Carrying a copy of your passport during site visits is mandatory to avoid access issues.

A Balanced Itinerary with a Note on Travel Pace

This 3 nights to Kandy and Colombo itinerary is designed for travelers seeking cultural insight without feeling rushed. However, the location of both hotels a few kilometers from city centers means transit time is a factor, requiring some planning for timely arrivals at tours and attractions.

While group tours are shared rather than private, this can provide a chance to meet fellow travelers, though those preferring solitude might find it less appealing. The combination of spiritual sites, natural beauty, and city exploration offers a well-rounded trip that fits comfortably into a three-night stay, balancing activity with downtime.

The 3 nights to Kandy and Colombo itinerary offers a thoughtful journey through two contrasting yet complementary cities in Sri Lanka. It provides travelers with a deep dive into Kandy’s Buddhist heritage, botanical wonders, and wildlife encounters alongside Colombo’s colonial landmarks and refreshing oceanfront ambience. While the hotels are a short drive from central attractions—meaning some time is spent in transit—the overall experience is rewarding for those who appreciate culture mingled with nature and city life. This itinerary showcases a pace and variety that appeals to leisure travelers eager to explore Sri Lanka’s diverse character within a concise timeframe.

I booked a trip to Sri Lanka with PickyourTrail for ten members of my family. This is the second trip that I have booked with PickyourTrail. They have done an excellent job right from creating the itinerary to ensuring that we have the right vehicle, you know, giving us details of the hotel, following up every single day during the trip, arranging cakes for two special occasions and finally extending bus timings during the drop-off as well. They have certainly gone above and beyond and made the experience quite memorable. They were always present when required for help, they've always followed up with us. and that I think is absolutely delightful customer support. Would definitely book any future vacations, especially those with families with them as it is a hassle free experience.

I had a great experience planning my Sri Lanka trip with PickYourTrail. The itinerary was well organized, the hotels matched what was promised, and all transfers were smooth. The app was easy to use, and having all the vouchers and travel details in one place made the trip stress-free. What stood out the most was their customer support. They were responsive whenever I had questions before the trip and were flexible in helping customize parts of my itinerary. Everything went largely as planned, which made traveling solo much more comfortable. A couple of small improvements could be providing final travel documents a little earlier and offering more proactive suggestions for local experiences, but these were minor and didnt affect the overall experience. Overall, Id happily recommend PickYourTrail to anyone looking for a hassle-free, well-planned international holiday. Looking forward to booking another trip with them in the future!

Had an amazing experience with PYT for our Sri Lanka trip. Right from planning to execution, everything was handled seamlessly. A big thanks to Kamali for putting together a well-balanced itinerary that perfectly covered all key places without feeling rushed. Ragul ensured a smooth pre-boarding experience, guiding us clearly through all the requirements and making the start of the trip completely stress-free. During the trip, Harikrishna was extremely responsive and supportive. It was reassuring to have someone available at all times for any queries or coordination, this really made a difference. The overall arrangements, driver, vehicle, travel flow, and experiences, were excellent. Everything was well-organized and executed professionally. The only area of improvement would be one of the hotel stays in Bentota, which didnt meet expectations. Apart from that, the entire trip was fantastic. Overall, a great experience with PYT. Would definitely recommend them for a hassle-free and well-managed vacation.

We chose Pick Your Trails for our Sri Lanka holiday to celebrate our babys first birthday, and it was an excellent decision. The trip was thoughtfully planned and well executed, making the entire experience smooth and stress-free for us as parents. There was a minor check-in issue at the Bentota hotel on the first day from the hotels side, but apart from that, everything was handled efficiently by the team. Special thanks to Austin for the planning and to Adithyan, Nimmy, Abhinaya, and Devi for their timely support throughout the trip. The driver was polite, the stays were comfortable, and the journey felt seamless overall. It truly became a memorable first birthday celebration for our baby.
