History of the Neka Art Museum

Pande Wayan Suteja Neka, also known as Suteja Neka, is the founder of the Neka Museum. In 1966, Suteja Neka, who was much influenced by Balinese artwork, opened the first of his art galleries in Ubud. Due to his close association with Dutch artists Rudolf Bonnet and Arie Smith, he eventually began to collect high-quality paintings. Neka and Bonnet visited museums and galleries during the tour to Europe in 1975, which served as inspiration for him to build the Neka Museum the following year. After many years, the museum was officially inaugurated on July 7th by Dr Daoed Joesoef, the Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture. Presently, the museum houses nearly 400 artworks, including old Balinese paintings, keris, sculptures, and photographs. Entrance Fees and Timings for Neka Art Museum

The Neka Art Museum is open daily from 09:00 am to 05:00 pm and is closed on Nyepi Days. The entrance fee for adults is IDR 100.000 (Rs. 540) and the entrance fee is free for children below the age of 12. The museum does not offer online registration; tickets can be purchased only in person. So be sure to carry some Indonesian Rupiah while visiting the place.
