The Maldives if formally called the Republic of Maldives. It is an archipelagic country below the Indian subcontinent of Asia. Kochi Airport:
Kochi International Airport is the first greenfield airport in the country and was built completely on public-private partnership. The airport was designed and built from the ground up and was applauded for setting new ideas on infrastructure development. Public participation frequent support from Non-residential Indians and effective airport leadership has truly made Cochin Airport an International Brand. Cochin Internation Airport is the first airport in the world to solely run on solar energy.
The Airport has bagged Multiple Excellence Awards by the state pollution control Board for 2017-18. United Nations has also awarded Cochin International Airport the Champion of Earth award in 2018 for being the first airport in the world to fully operate on Solar energy. Cochin International airport has 4 terminals, 2 terminals for domestic,1 for International use, and 1 terminal for cargo.
Terminals
Each terminal is designed to bring out the culture and heritage of the state, thereby exciting passengers to explore more.
Terminal One:
The first terminal built-up area is approximately 600,000 sq ft. It has 56 check-in counters,7 aerobridges, and conveyor belts systems to transfer baggage from 12 flights at the same time. The terminal is also filled with 6 reserve lounges art area, a food court, an executive lounge, and a 50,000 sq ft shopping area. The terminal also has a solar carport that can accommodate 1400 cars.
Terminal Two:
The second Terminal is comparatively smaller than that of the first one and can handle up to 400 passengers during peak time. The departure hall has 26 common-use terminal equipment that also has built-in check-in counters. In the 26 counters, there are 6 counters for premium check-in and 4 counters for self-check-in. The terminal has 6 security gates with a family and premium lounge for business class passengers. They also have a food court along with a waiting area and operate a restaurant in the lobby area.
Terminal Four:
A new Terminal was opened in March 2017 solely for International flights and has a traditional Kerala architecture-inspired theme. The terminal has 5 gates along with 84 check-in counters and 80 immigration counters. The terminal also has a solar-powered carport that can accommodate 1400 cars.
The total terminal is spread across 1,614,587 sq ft and spans across 4 levels. The ground level handles arrival and also has 10 customs counters,3 bank counters, and a shopping complex for passengers and the general public. The ground level also has a VIP lounge along with arrival duty-free shops and baggage claim counter.
The second level also has 30 immigration counters,10 e-T-visa counters, 5 health check counters, and 2 moving walkways. The second level also handles arrival.
The third level handles departure, it has 3 check-in island which has 84 counters and 40 emigration counters. It has a duty-free shop that is approximately 8500 sq ft. They also have 3 VIP lounges, offices for airlines 2 prayer rooms, and a moving walkway. The fourth level is a security area for departure passengers. It has a food court, restaurant, and 3 executive lounges. it also has a smoking lounge along with a bar and reclining area.
Maldives Airport:
Velana International Airport is the main and only international airport in the Maldives.it is situated on the Hulhulé Island in the North Malé Atoll. This is located near the capital island of Male. The airport is very well connected with all major airports across the world and acts as the only gateway into the Maldives for tourists.
The airport was operated and managed by the Maldives Airports Company Limited(MACL). The Airport currently has only one runway which is 10,499 feet or 3200 meters long. Hulhule Island Hotel is currently the only hotel on the island. The hotel is approximately 5 minutes drive from the airport ad also has a complimentary shuttle service throughout the day. The capital city is approximately 10 minutes away from the airport. Speedboat service is available and the Island hotel provides scheduled transfers from the hotel to Male island on a complimentary basis.

Recommended Flights to Maldives from Kochi
While there are plenty of airlines that operate between India and Maldives. Covid Guidelines and things to know while travelling to Maldives:
The Maldives is currently open for Indian nationals as there is an air bubble agreement between both countries. The Maldives has continued with visas on arrival since 15th July 2021 for Indian passengers.
Things to know before travelling from India to Maldives:
- It is mandatory passenger must carry a negative RT PCR test report taken within 72 hours prior to travel date.RT PCR test is mandatory for all passengers except for kids under the age of 1.
- A hotel booking voucher along with valid round trip flight tickets.
- Passport Validity has to be 6 months or beyond.
- It is recommend to take Covid Insurance while travelling to Maldives during the Pandemic.
- Passengers arriving in the Maldives will have to take the 2nd RT PCR test.
- Passengers arriving to the Maldives need to ensure the flight lands in Maldives based on the mode of transportation to the resort..
- There are 2 different types of transfers from the airport to island resorts.One is speedboat and the other is seaplane.Speedboat operates from 7.00am to 5.30pm,while seaplane operates from 9.00am to 4.30pm.
Quarantine rules if traveller tests positive for COVID:
- if the traveller’s RT PCR test turns out to be positive,they will be quarantined immediately and necessary support will be provided and will be monitored periodically.
- Traveller will be allowed to travel once their test results come as negative.
