1. Leisure World Water Park

The most famous ride is the Boomerang ride (a boat-shaped raft that descends from a 60-feet structure). 2. Beira Lake

You will be awestruck by the beauty of this lake. This lake is a must-visit attraction when it comes to places to visit in Colombo. 

History

This lake was initially about 1.65 km²  in area, now it is reduced to 0.65km2. The construction of this lake dates back to 1591. It was built by the Portuguese for the main purpose of serving as a barrier of protection from their invaders and also for transporting weapons internally. Though the Portuguese were the ones who constructed, the lake became beautiful during the Dutch era. The cutch people builts canals starting from the lake, thereby resulting in the flow of water across the place. As a result of these canals, some small islands emerged within the lake.

It was during the later British era, this lake was desecrated by the waste from the nearby industries. This lake was then restored by the efforts of the Srilankan Government. 

Strolling along the pathways of this lake or taking a boat ride in the lake is the best thing to do with your kids. The entry to this lake is free however, you will have to pay for the boat rides.

3. Dehiwala Zoo

The National Zoological Gardens of Sri Lanka is also known as the Dehiwala Zoo or Colombo Zoo. It is one of the oldest Zoological Garden located in the Mount Lavinia district, near Moratuwa.  The zoo hosts 3 shows; The bird show, the elephant show and the sea lion show. These shows are loved by tourists.

The butterfly garden in this zoo has more than 30 species of butterflies and it also exhibits the lifecycle of butterflies. The zoo also has an aquarium within it. This is definitely one of the best places to visit with your kids.

4. Viharamahadevi Park

It is a public park, best suited for friends and family. It is one of the oldest and biggest parks in Colombo, built during the British era. This park also serves to be a good picnic spot on a bright sunny day. Stroll around the park, relax and enjoy with your kids; leaving behind the hustle and bustle of the city. This park is located at the heart of the city and so, reaching the park will not be difficult. The entry fee is minimal with some offers for children.

5. Snorkelling
