Popular destinations such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An, and Phu Quoc feature numerous Indian restaurants, while many hotels can provide Indian breakfast options on request. Vegetarian and Jain meal preferences can also be accommodated with prior arrangements.
- Family-friendly attractions: Vietnam is well-equipped for family travel, with activities suitable for every age group. From relaxing beach resorts and scenic cruises to amusement parks, wildlife attractions, and cultural experiences, there is something to keep children, parents, and grandparents equally engaged.

Note: Apply at least 7–10 days before your departure date to avoid delays.
Phu Quoc Visa-Free
Indian passport holders can enter Phu Quoc visa-free for up to 30 days if they travel directly to the island and stay only within Phu Quoc. India's Embassy in Hanoi issued a specific travel advisory in April 2026 after documenting cases of Indian travellers who:
- Entered Phu Quoc visa-free and then needed to travel to mainland Vietnam (for medical treatment, flight connections, or other reasons) and were unable to do so legally
- Were effectively stranded because mainland Vietnam requires a separate visa
Getting Around Vietnam with Your Family
Vietnam has a well-developed transportation network, making it easy for families to travel comfortably between cities, beaches, and tourist destinations. Depending on your itinerary, you can choose from flights, private transfers, trains, and app-based taxis.
Domestic Flights
For families planning to explore multiple regions of Vietnam, domestic flights are the most convenient option. Airlines such as IndiGo, VietJet Air, and Vietnam Airlines operate frequent services between major destinations, including Hanoi, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Ho Chi Minh City, and Nha Trang. Flight durations are short, and booking tickets a few weeks in advance often helps secure the best fares.
Private Car Transfers
Private airport and intercity transfers are one of the most comfortable ways to travel, especially for families with young children or senior travellers. Having a dedicated vehicle eliminates the hassle of coordinating multiple taxis, managing luggage, or navigating public transportation. Most family holiday packages include private transfers, ensuring a smooth and stress-free travel experience throughout the trip.
Overnight Sleeper Trains
For families looking to add a unique travel experience to their itinerary, Vietnam's overnight sleeper trains are worth considering. The Hanoi–Sapa route is particularly popular, offering comfortable four-berth cabins suitable for families. The journey takes approximately 7–8 hours and arrives near Sapa early in the morning, allowing travellers to maximise their sightseeing time.
Ha Long Bay Cruises
An overnight cruise in Ha Long Bay is one of Vietnam's most memorable family experiences. Many cruise operators offer family cabins designed to accommodate parents and children comfortably. Since cabin layouts vary by cruise line, it is advisable to confirm bedding arrangements before booking to ensure they meet your family's requirements.
Grab Taxi App
Grab is Vietnam's most widely used ride-hailing platform and is available in major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Hoi An. The app offers transparent pricing, cashless payment options, and reliable transportation, making it an excellent choice for families. Setting up the app before your trip can help make local travel even more convenient.
Family Travel Tip: If you're travelling with children or elderly family members, combining domestic flights for long distances with private transfers for local sightseeing offers the most comfortable and efficient way to explore Vietnam while minimising travel fatigue.
Best Destinations for a Vietnam Family Tour Package
From bustling cities and UNESCO-listed heritage towns to breathtaking natural landscapes and tropical islands, Vietnam offers a diverse range of experiences for every type of traveller.
North Vietnam
Hanoi
Vietnam's capital is best experienced at a relaxed pace. Wander through the charming Old Quarter, stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake, and visit historic landmarks such as the Temple of Literature and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. In the evenings, explore the city's vibrant street food scene and soak in the atmosphere of its bustling local markets and cafés.
Ha Long Bay
One of Vietnam's most iconic destinations, Ha Long Bay is famous for its emerald waters and thousands of limestone islands. While day cruises are popular, an overnight cruise offers a far more immersive experience, allowing visitors to enjoy quieter sunrise views, kayaking excursions, cave exploration, and onboard cultural activities.
Ninh Binh
Often referred to as "Ha Long Bay on land," Ninh Binh is known for its dramatic limestone karsts, lush rice fields, and peaceful waterways. Highlights include boat rides through Tam Coc and Trang An, cycling through scenic countryside, and exploring the ancient capital of Hoa Lu. While it can be visited as a day trip from Hanoi, an overnight stay allows for a more relaxed experience.
Sapa
Nestled in the Hoang Lien Son Mountains, Sapa is renowned for its terraced rice fields, cool climate, and rich ethnic culture. Visitors can trek through traditional Hmong and Dao villages while enjoying spectacular mountain scenery. The most picturesque months are May to June, when the terraces turn vibrant green, and September to October, during the golden harvest season.
Central Vietnam
Da Nang
A perfect blend of beaches, mountains, and modern attractions, Da Nang serves as an excellent base for exploring Central Vietnam. Top attractions include My Khe Beach, Dragon Bridge, the Marble Mountains, and Ba Na Hills, home to the world-famous Golden Bridge and one of the region's longest cable car systems.
Hoi An
This UNESCO World Heritage town is one of Vietnam's most charming destinations. As evening falls, colourful lanterns illuminate the streets and reflect beautifully along the Thu Bon River. Visitors can explore centuries-old merchant houses, join lantern-making workshops, participate in cooking classes, and browse the lively night market.
Hue
Vietnam's former imperial capital is rich in history and culture. The city is home to the Imperial Citadel, royal tombs, ancient pagodas, and scenic stretches along the Perfume River. Hue is also celebrated for its distinctive cuisine, offering some of the country's most authentic and refined culinary experiences.
Phong Nha
Adventure lovers should not miss Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, a UNESCO-listed region known for its vast cave systems, underground rivers, and dense jungle landscapes. Popular activities include exploring Dark Cave, zip-lining, cave trekking, and discovering some of the largest caves in the world.
South Vietnam
Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)
Vietnam's largest and most energetic city combines modern skyscrapers with colonial-era architecture and important historical landmarks. Key attractions include the War Remnants Museum, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office, and the famous Cu Chi Tunnels. The nearby Mekong Delta also makes for an excellent day trip, offering boat rides through river canals, floating markets, and traditional villages.
Nha Trang
Known for its beautiful coastline and lively beach atmosphere, Nha Trang is a popular destination for both relaxation and family-friendly activities. Visitors can explore nearby islands, visit the historic Po Nagar Cham Towers, or spend the day at VinWonders, accessible via a scenic cable car ride.
Phu Quoc
Vietnam's largest island is renowned for its white-sand beaches, luxury resorts, vibrant night markets, and stunning coastal scenery. Highlights include the Hon Thom Cable Car, one of the world's longest overwater cable car systems, island-hopping excursions, water sports, and family attractions such as VinWonders and Vinpearl Safari.
Important Visa Note for Indian Travellers: While Phu Quoc offers visa-free entry for eligible travellers arriving directly and remaining on the island, visitors planning to travel to mainland Vietnam before or after their stay must obtain a valid Vietnam e-Visa. It is advisable to confirm the latest visa requirements before booking your trip.

Vietnam Family Food Guide for Indian Travellers
One of the biggest concerns for families travelling abroad is food, especially when travelling with children, senior citizens, vegetarians, or Jain travellers. However, Vietnamese cuisine is built around fresh vegetables, rice, noodles, herbs and flavourful broths, with spice levels generally milder than Indian food. In major tourist destinations, restaurants are accustomed to international visitors and can often accommodate dietary preferences.
Family-Friendly Vietnamese Dishes to Try
Even first-time visitors usually find Vietnamese cuisine approachable and easy to enjoy. Here are some dishes that are particularly popular with families:
- Pho (Vietnamese Noodle Soup): A comforting bowl of rice noodles served in a fragrant broth with herbs and meat. The chicken version (Pho Ga) is often the most familiar and child-friendly option.
- Banh Mi: Vietnam's famous baguette sandwich filled with vegetables, sauces, and your choice of fillings. The egg and vegetarian versions are especially popular among Indian travellers.
- Goi Cuon (Fresh Spring Rolls): Light rice-paper rolls filled with vegetables, herbs, tofu, shrimp, or other ingredients. They are fresh, healthy, and easy for children to try.
- Com Tam: A rice-based meal served with grilled vegetables, tofu, seafood, or meat. Its familiar combination of rice and side dishes that often appeals to Indian families.
- Che: A colourful Vietnamese dessert made with coconut milk, fruits, beans, jellies, and ice. It is a favourite among children and a refreshing treat on warm days.
Indian Food Availability in Vietnam
Indian food is widely available in Vietnam's major tourist destinations, making it easy to enjoy familiar meals whenever needed.
- Hanoi: Several Indian restaurants can be found around the Old Quarter, serving North Indian, South Indian, vegetarian, and Jain-friendly dishes.
- Ho Chi Minh City: District 1 is home to numerous Indian restaurants offering everything from traditional curries and biryanis to tandoori specialities.
- Hoi An: A growing number of Indian restaurants cater to international travellers and offer vegetarian-friendly menus near the Ancient Town.
- Phu Quoc: The Long Beach area features several Indian-owned restaurants serving authentic Indian cuisine, including vegetarian and Jain options.
Vegetarian and Jain-Friendly Travel
Vietnam is generally a comfortable destination for vegetarian travellers due to its abundance of vegetable-based dishes and tofu preparations. Families with specific dietary requirements can also request vegetarian or Jain meals at many hotels and restaurants with prior notice.

Essential Vietnam Travel Tips for Families
Staying Connected
Tourist SIM cards from providers such as Viettel, Mobifone, and Vietnamobile are widely available at major airports and typically cost between Rs. 350 and Rs. 600, depending on the data package and validity period. Travellers who prefer a hassle-free setup can also purchase an eSIM before departure.
While international roaming from Indian providers such as Airtel and Jio works in Vietnam, local SIM cards or eSIMs generally offer significantly better value for money.
Currency and Payments
Vietnam's currency is the Vietnamese Dong (VND). ATMs are easily accessible in major cities and tourist destinations, making cash withdrawals convenient throughout your trip.
Although hotels, shopping malls, and larger restaurants commonly accept international cards, carrying cash is recommended for local markets, street food vendors, small cafés, and certain attractions. For better exchange rates, consider exchanging currency at authorised money changers in the city rather than at airport counters.
Health and Medical Care
Vietnam does not currently require any mandatory vaccinations for travellers arriving from India.
Safety Tips for Families
Vietnam is widely regarded as one of the safest destinations in Southeast Asia for family travellers. Violent crime against tourists is rare, and most visits are trouble-free.
As with any popular tourist destination, remain mindful of personal belongings in crowded markets, night markets, and busy public areas.
Power Plugs and Electricity
Vietnam primarily uses Type A, Type C, and Type F electrical sockets. Since Indian Type D plugs may not fit directly, carrying a universal travel adapter is highly recommended for charging phones, cameras, and other electronic devices.
What to Pack for Children
Packing the right essentials can make family travel much more comfortable. Consider bringing:
- Lightweight cotton clothing suitable for warm and humid weather
- Comfortable walking shoes or sandals
- Reef-safe sunscreen and sun hats
- Insect repellent, especially for Sapa, Phong Nha, and rural areas
- Swimwear for beaches, resorts, and cruises
- A lightweight rain jacket or poncho for unexpected showers and Ha Long Bay cruises
- Any child-specific medications and snacks for longer travel days

Hey everyone. I had booked my Vietnam tour with them and am glad i did. One of the best part was the way each and everything was communicated to me which included the requirements from my side as well as what exactly i was looking for in the trip. As and when the trip was getting close i was getting timely reminders and my queries were being addressed. Their aap is also super smooth and one can get all the updates wrt payments and documentation there itself. The price quotation was also great as i did compare with other travel sites as well. All in all a thumbs to them and definitely recommend.

Well-organized Vietnam tour with great service We had a wonderful experience on our Vietnam tour. Transportation, hotel arrangements, and overall coordination were excellent. Our tour guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and always willing to help, making the trip smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. One suggestion for improvement , when we travelled from Hanoi to Da nag the flight time and hotel check in time has a gap of 5 hours. Next time please plan the flight and hotel check in time correctly. So your customer will not suffer during the trip. Apart from this, everything else was excellent. Thank you to the entire team for organizing such a memorable and enjoyable trip. I would be happy to recommend your services to others.

(4/5) We recently booked our Vietnam trip through PickYourTrail, and overall it was a wonderful experience. The itinerary was thoughtfully planned, airport transfers were seamless, and all the activities were well organized. Their support team was responsive whenever we needed assistance, making the trip smooth and stress-free. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the hotel provided in Ho Chi Minh City didn't meet our expectations. Compared to the other hotels during our trip, it felt below the standard we were expecting and could definitely have been better. Apart from that, everything else was well managed, and we had an amazing time exploring Vietnam. I would happily recommend PickYourTrail to anyone looking for a well-planned international vacation and would consider booking with them again.

I truly appreciated receiving my daily plans on WhatsApp a day in advance, which made everything so organized and easy to follow. The support agents were incredibly responsive and instantly available whenever I needed assistance. Thank you for making my vacation so smooth and truly memorable.

Hi, We had a wonderful experience on our Vietnam tour. The itinerary was well planned, covering all the major attractions without feeling rushed. Transportation, hotel arrangements, and overall coordination were excellent. Our tour guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and always willing to help, making the trip smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. One suggestion for improvement where we stayed on the last day. The check-in experience could have been more welcoming, as the staff's attitude felt less courteous than at the other hotels. Additionally, the atmosphere in the hotel did not feel ideal for a family tour group. Choosing a more family-oriented hotel for future tours would further enhance the overall experience. Apart from this, everything else was excellent
