A New Zealand 13 Nights 14 Days Package gives you enough time to experience both islands without treating every destination as a quick stop. Travel from Auckland and Rotorua through Wellington, cross the Cook Strait by ferry and continue south through Kaikoura, the Southern Alps, Queenstown and Fiordland. With extra nights, you can add the West Coast glaciers, spend more time in Queenstown or slow down in scenic towns along the way. From geothermal landscapes and Māori culture to alpine lakes, glaciers and fjords, this two-week itinerary brings together the best of New Zealand while leaving room to enjoy the journey between them. With 10+ years of travel expertise, strong destination knowledge and customisable itineraries, Pickyourtrail helps you choose the right route, stays and experiences for your 13-night New Zealand holiday, based on your interests, pace and budget.
New Zealand Tour Package 13 Nights 14 Days
With two weeks, the question is less what to cut and more how to pace it. A New Zealand 13 Nights 14 Days Package from Pickyourtrail is built around your preferred mix of cities, nature and rest days. A typical New Zealand package can include:
- Handpicked stays in cities, lake towns and national park villages
- Airport transfers on arrival and departure
- Interislander or Bluebridge ferry between Wellington and Picton
- Sightseeing and experiences such as Hobbiton, a Māori cultural evening, whale watching in Kaikoura and a Milford Sound cruise
- Rental car, campervan or coach travel depending on how you like to explore
- Customisable itineraries with room for free days
- 24/7 trip assistance from start to finish
Best New Zealand 13 Nights 14 Days Itineraries
A New Zealand 13 Nights 14 Days Package gives you the flexibility to combine both islands, explore the South Island in greater depth or slow down with fewer hotel changes. With two weeks, you can add destinations that shorter itineraries often have to skip and still leave time for scenic drives and day trips.
- North to South Overland: Travel from Auckland to Rotorua, Taupo and Wellington, cross the Cook Strait and continue through Kaikoura, Christchurch, Mount Cook and Queenstown. A great option for travellers who want a classic journey across both islands.
- Both Islands with the West Coast: Start in Auckland and Rotorua, fly to Christchurch and continue through the TranzAlpine route, Franz Josef, Wanaka, Queenstown and Te Anau. This itinerary combines North Island culture with the glaciers, mountains and fjords of the South Island.
- Grand South Island Loop: Explore Christchurch, Kaikoura, Nelson and Abel Tasman, Punakaiki, Franz Josef, Wanaka, Queenstown, Te Anau, Dunedin and Mount Cook on an extended road trip. Ideal for travellers who want to see the South Island's landscapes from coast to mountains.
- Slow-Paced Two-Island Trip: Keep the itinerary simple with Auckland, Rotorua, Queenstown and Wanaka as your main bases, using day trips to explore the surrounding areas. Fewer hotel changes make this a comfortable option for families, senior travellers and anyone who prefers a relaxed holiday.
Sample 13 Nights 14 Days New Zealand Itinerary
Here is a sample north-to-south route to show how a New Zealand 13 Nights 14 Days Package can unfold.
Day 1: Arrival in Auckland
Arrive, check in and recover from the flight. Dinner by the harbour is plenty for today.
Day 2: Auckland
Explore the city, take the ferry to Devonport or Waiheke Island, or visit the black-sand beach at Piha on the west coast.
Day 3: Auckland to Rotorua via Hobbiton
Collect your car and drive to Matamata for a guided tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set, then continue an hour to Rotorua.
Day 4: Rotorua
Visit a geothermal park, try the luge or a canopy walk in the Redwoods, and join a Māori cultural evening with a hangi meal.
Day 5: Rotorua to Taupo
A short one-hour drive leaves time for Huka Falls, a cruise to the Māori rock carvings on Lake Taupo and a soak in a thermal pool.
Day 6: Taupo to Wellington
Drive past the volcanoes of Tongariro National Park and down to the capital, about five hours on the road.
Day 7: Wellington
See the Te Papa national museum, ride the red cable car to the Botanic Garden and wander Cuba Street's cafes.
Day 8: Ferry to Picton and on to Kaikoura
Cross the Cook Strait and glide through the Marlborough Sounds on the ferry for around three and a half hours. Drive two hours down the coast to Kaikoura.
Day 9: Kaikoura to Christchurch
Join a morning whale-watching cruise or look for fur seals along the peninsula, then drive about two and a half hours to Christchurch.
Day 10: Christchurch to Aoraki / Mount Cook
Travel via Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki to Mount Cook village. Stay up for the stars in the dark sky reserve.
Day 11: Mount Cook to Queenstown
Take a morning walk in the national park, then drive over the Lindis Pass to Queenstown.
Day 12: Queenstown
Ride the gondola, try a jet boat or bungy, or spend a slower day in Arrowtown and the Gibbston Valley vineyards.
Day 13: Milford Sound
Take a full-day coach and cruise trip to Milford Sound, or fly one way to shorten the day if conditions allow.
Day 14: Departure
Fly out of Queenstown. Prefer glaciers to the capital? Fly from Rotorua to Christchurch on Day 5 and use the saved days for the TranzAlpine, Franz Josef and Wanaka.
What Can You Cover in a New Zealand 13 Nights 14 Days Package?
A New Zealand 13 Nights 14 Days Package gives you enough time to explore both islands at a comfortable pace, combining cities, geothermal landscapes, mountains, vineyards, wildlife and fjords. Depending on your route, you can cover:
- Auckland: Explore the harbour, nearby islands, waterfront neighbourhoods and the rugged beaches of the west coast.
- Rotorua & Taupo: Experience geothermal parks and Māori culture in Rotorua, then continue to Taupo for Huka Falls and views across New Zealand's largest lake.
- Wellington: Discover Te Papa, ride the Wellington Cable Car and explore the city's compact waterfront, cafés and cultural attractions.
- Marlborough & Kaikoura: Cross the Cook Strait through the Marlborough Sounds, explore the vineyards around Blenheim and look for whales and other marine wildlife in Kaikoura.
- Christchurch & the Mackenzie region: Combine Christchurch's gardens and heritage attractions with the turquoise waters of Lake Tekapo and the mountain landscapes of Aoraki / Mount Cook.
- Queenstown & Fiordland: Enjoy Queenstown's adventure activities, explore Arrowtown and Glenorchy, and take a scenic journey through Fiordland to Milford Sound.
Tip: If you're self-driving, check your rental company's rules for the Cook Strait ferry. Many companies arrange separate vehicle rentals for the North and South Islands rather than allowing cars to travel on the ferry. Pack bags that are easy to carry and book your ferry crossing well in advance during peak summer periods.
New Zealand 13 Nights 14 Days Package Price
New Zealand 13 Nights 14 Days Package with Pickyourtrail starts from ₹139,705 per person. Actual pricing shifts based on a few variables:
- Departure city and dates: International airfare varies with season, airline and how early you book.
- Hotel tier: Over thirteen nights, the gap between 3-star, 4-star and luxury lodges is multiplied.
- Vehicle choice: A compact car, an SUV or a campervan each changes both rental and fuel costs.
- Ferry or flight: Crossing between islands by ferry or by air is priced differently, and ferry fares rise in peak weeks.
- Activities: Whale watching, Hobbiton, scenic flights and Milford Sound cruises are the main paid experiences.
- Season: Christmas, New Year and January are the costliest weeks of the year.
What's Included in a New Zealand 13 Nights 14 Days Package?
Depending on the itinerary you choose, a New Zealand 13 Nights 14 Days Package typically includes:
- 13 nights of accommodation across both islands
- Airport transfers on arrival and departure
- Rental car or coach travel between destinations
- Inter-island ferry tickets or a domestic flight, as per the route
- Sightseeing and activities listed in your itinerary
- Daily breakfast at select hotels
- 24/7 on-trip assistance
International flights, visas, travel insurance, fuel, most lunches and dinners, and personal expenses are usually separate unless specifically mentioned in your package. Always check the inclusions and exclusions before booking.
Are 13 Nights Enough for a New Zealand Trip?
Yes, and for most first-time visitors it is the ideal length. Thirteen nights cover the main regions of both islands with a few slow days built in. Even so, you cannot do everything: the Bay of Islands, Abel Tasman, the West Coast and Dunedin will not all fit alongside the classic route, so pick one or two extras at most.
Best Time for a New Zealand 13 Nights 14 Days Package
A two-week trip crosses several climates, from subtropical Auckland to alpine Fiordland.
- December to February (summer): Warm and bright across the country, with calmer ferry crossings and long evenings. Reserve well ahead.
- March to May (autumn): Stable weather, grape harvest in Marlborough and autumn colour in Central Otago.
- June to August (winter): Good for skiing and snow scenery in the south, and whales are seen in Kaikoura all year. Expect short days and occasional road closures.
- September to November (spring): Gardens in bloom in Christchurch and snow still on the peaks, with mixed weather.
For a two-week journey through both islands, late November to early April is the most dependable period, with March a favourite for mild days and lighter crowds.
A New Zealand 13 Nights 14 Days Package for Every Traveller
- Couples: A New Zealand honeymoon package can combine wine experiences in Marlborough, stargazing around Aoraki / Mount Cook, scenic stays and relaxed days in Queenstown.
- Families: A New Zealand family tour package can include Hobbiton, Te Papa, wildlife encounters, easy nature walks and scenic train journeys, with enough time to avoid overly packed travel days.
- Adventure Seekers: A New Zealand adventure tour package can add the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, white-water rafting in Rotorua, bungy jumping, skydiving and other outdoor experiences across both islands.
- Road Trippers & Campervan Travellers: A New Zealand self-drive package can take you from the top of the North Island to the South Island, with a Cook Strait ferry crossing and enough time to enjoy scenic roads and overnight stops along the way.
- Wildlife & Nature Lovers: A New Zealand nature tour package can include whale and dolphin encounters in Kaikoura, fur seal colonies, alpine landscapes and the rainforests and fjords of Fiordland.
- Senior Travellers: A longer itinerary makes it easier to choose fewer bases, add scenic rail journeys and include guided or coach tours instead of long self-drive days, creating a more relaxed way to explore New Zealand.

I had planned my New Zealand vacation via Pickyourtrail in May 2023. Starting from guiding me with the tour dates keeping visa issuance time period in mind, to helping me secure Visa with prompt followups with the Embassy, the Pre-Trip support was amazing. While on the trip, their 24*7 customer support was very prompt with timely trip & Activity intimations to resolving issues then and there. There was a small mistake with the cab planning where the cab drop was arranged for Queenstown while it was supposed to be Christchurch. The support team was very timely in coordinating and getting it changed with the Rental Service Provider else we would have gotten stuck as it was almost closing time. Now coming to the post Trip, Pickyourtrail ensured to follow up with me and get the refunds done with a few days despite waiting for my request. On the whole it was a crazy ride for me in New Zealand and all thanks to Pickyourtrail and it's team for making my first international vacation memorable.

Planned my first trip with PYT to New Zealand. Splendid experience with the destination and PYT team. Took a self drive trip and no major hiccups. What I liked about PYT was the experience before the trip started. In terms of planning, VISA, logistics, they were more then accommodating with my requests. The communication with their support staff on the app is seamless too, they help you with a ton of things to do and on spot booking as well. All in all, will definitely recommend them!
