Take the beautiful inland road past the Urewera Ranges from Opotiki to Gisborne. Gisborne is a sunny city known for its excellent wine and world-class surf beaches. There are more than 20 vineyards in the region, with Chardonnay taking center stage. The first European ship to land in New Zealand was at Kaiti Beach, which is close to the town's center.
Day 5: Gisborne to Napier There are two ways to go to Napier from Gisborne. You'll pass by Hackfalls Arboretum, one of New Zealand's largest private tree collections, as you go inland. You can also approach Morere Hot Springs and Mahia Peninsula by traveling down the coast. Wairoa, a great location for kayaking or riverside walks and a base for exploring Te Urewera, is accessible from both highways. Exploring Napier by foot or by bicycle is a great idea. Explore the town on foot to see the stunning Art Deco structures from the 1930s. Ride the bike routes that connect the region's wineries or take a picturesque ride up Te Mata Peak. The intriguing gannet colony can be reached via the Cape Kidnappers walking trail.
Day 6: Napier to Wellington Explore several tiny rural communities on your way south. The largest provincial town in New Zealand, Palmerston North, is a nice place to stop for lunch. Numerous historic stores from the 1920s and 1930s have been renovated to become boutique stores, cafes, and restaurants. Along the journey, there are also sights like Kapiti Island Nature Reserve and Owlcatraz Owl Sanctuary. You'll find a vibrant fusion of culture, heritage, and food in Wellington. The downtown area is perfect for exploration on foot because it is tucked between the harbor and the hills. Explore local craft brews, explore museums and galleries, and discover the eccentric culture of New Zealand's capital city.
Day 7: Wellington to Auckland or Delhi Choose if you want to commute back home from Wellington, the Capital of New Zealand, or if you want to go back home from Auckland, the most popular city in New Zealand.
