Nestled in the Mu Koh Poda archipelago, southwest of Ao Nang, Tup Island is between Koh Poda and Koh Kai (Chicken Island). Twice a day, as the tide recedes, the Y-shaped sandbar rises from the shallow turquoise waters, known locally as Thale Waek. It forms a walkable land bridge connecting Tup Island, Chicken Island, and Koh Mor. From Ao Nang

The most common departure point is Ao Nang Beach. You can get on a shared longtail boat or a private longtail boat, which costs around 300-2,200 THB (₹700 – ₹5,200) and takes around 20-30 minutes. 

From Railay Beach

Longtail boats also depart from Railay Beach, Klong Muang, Nopparat Thara Beach, and Chao Fah Pier in Krabi Town. Prices from these points may vary slightly.

• May to October (Monsoon Season): Seas can be rough, and boat services may be reduced or suspended during heavy weather. Visibility for snorkelling also decreases. 

Best Time of Day

Early morning (before 9:30 AM): Fewer tour groups, calmer light for photography, and the best chance to experience the sandbar before crowds arrive.

Since Tup Island has limited facilities, most visitors eat in Ao Nang after returning from their island trip.

There is no accommodation on Tup Island itself. The best base for a day trip is Ao Nang or Railay Beach.

• Railay Beach: A quieter, more scenic alternative. Accessible only by boat from Ao Nang or Krabi Town, but well worth it for the dramatic limestone backdrop and relative tranquillity.

• Carry cash for the National Park fee and any on-island purchases. There are no ATMs or card readers.

• Wear reef shoes or sandals when walking the sandbar; the surface includes coral fragments and shells.
• Apply waterproof sunscreen generously. Shade on the island is minimal.
• Travel light; a dry bag for electronics and a reusable water bottle are ideal. Plastic waste is a real problem in these waters; take all rubbish with you.
• Respect the reef. Do not stand on or touch coral while snorkelling.
