Leaning Tower of Pisa

The leaning tower of Pisa is one of the most visited monuments in Italy. The structure is a bell tower of the Pisa cathedral. As the name suggests, the structure is leaned, but this inclination was due to the fragile and unstable basement and has no figurative significance. The structure is inclined at a 4-degree angle giving it the leaning appearance.

The Pisa Province is 86 Kilometers from Florence and take an hour and an hour to reach from the train. Trains are available at regular intervals from Florence to Pisa, almost once in every half an hour. From the central railway station to Leaning tower its a kilometre and half, you can stroll around while enjoying the feel of the place or board a taxi from there. You can also opt for a guided tour from Florence and operators have their own fleet to take you to Pisa.

San Gimignano and Siena

San Gimignano and Siena are the provinces in Italy and can be combined together if you are planning a day trip Florence.

San Gimignano is a small town midway between Florence and Siena. The city is famous for its towers, architecture and white wine. San Gimignano has always been a wealthy locality, aristocrats had built 72 tower-houses to showcase their wealth and significance in Tuscany. However, over the years only 14 tower-houses have managed to survive. A wall circumscribes the entire city and tourists are only through a central gate. The second leg of the day, you can visit Siena. Siena city is 35 Kilometer towards the south of Florence in the Tuscany region. It is an ancient city known for its art and architecture, cuisines, derbies and medieval landscape. The fan-shaped central plaza, gothic town, Slender tower are the highlights of the city. Many Bollywood movies are also shot in the city owing to its classy locations.

Chianti

Cinque Terre is a group of five beautiful century-old villages on the Italian coastline – Riomaggiario, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Monterosso. The Villages are famous for their colourful houses, rugged beaches and spectacular seaside views. Though you might feel its similar to Amalfi coast, Cinque Terre is much more peaceful and less crowded.

It takes two to two and a half hours to reach Cinque Terre from Florence, hence even if you start your journey early morning it won’t be possible to cover all 5 villages. Vernazza and Riomaggiario are the best of the set and hence we advise you to visit these two towns. La Spezia is the nearest train station and you will have to take a local train again.
