Planning an Iceland tour package from India takes more than picking places to visit. Flight connections, Schengen visa requirements, weather, accommodation and the right travel season all matter. Pickyourtrail helps bring these details together, from planning your route and choosing stays to selecting flight connections and offering visa guidance. Since 2014, we’ve helped 150,000+ Indian travellers plan personalised international holidays. Our Iceland itineraries combine traveller insights and destination expertise to bring together iconic experiences and lesser-known gems, creating an Iceland package designed around you, not a standard itinerary.
Why Choose Iceland for Your Next Trip?
Iceland offers a rare mix of glaciers, volcanoes, waterfalls, black-sand beaches and geothermal landscapes in one destination. With good flight connections through European hubs and a straightforward Schengen visa process, here is why a well-planned Iceland tour package can make your planning easier.
- See Glaciers, Volcanoes & Waterfalls in One Trip: Explore Vatnajökull Glacier, volcanic landscapes, Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls, and the black-sand beaches of Reynisfjara on a single Iceland holiday.
- Chase the Northern Lights: Travel between September and April for a chance to witness the Aurora Borealis. Dark skies, low light pollution, and Iceland’s dramatic landscapes make the Northern Lights one of the country’s biggest attractions.
- Explore Iceland on a Scenic Road Trip: Drive along the Ring Road or take shorter routes through the South Coast and Golden Circle, stopping at waterfalls, glaciers, beaches, villages, and viewpoints along the way.
- Ideal for a 7–10-Day Holiday: A week-long Iceland itinerary can cover Reykjavík, the Golden Circle, South Coast, glacier lagoons, and major waterfalls, while 10 days or more allows you to explore at a more relaxed pace.
- Stay in Everything from Guesthouses to Luxury Hotels: Choose from budget-friendly guesthouses, countryside stays, modern Reykjavík hotels, glass cabins, and luxury properties depending on your budget and travel style.
- Experience Geothermal Hot Springs: Relax in Iceland’s famous geothermal waters, including the Blue Lagoon and Sky Lagoon, or discover natural hot springs surrounded by mountains and wilderness.
- Perfect for Adventure Lovers: Go glacier hiking, snowmobiling, ice-caving, whale watching, ATV riding, horseback riding, or snorkelling between tectonic plates at Silfra.
- See the Midnight Sun in Summer: Visit between June and August to experience almost endless daylight, making it easier to enjoy road trips, hikes, waterfalls, and scenic drives late into the evening.
- Experience the Golden Circle in a Day: Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area, and Gullfoss waterfall form Iceland’s famous Golden Circle and can easily be explored as part of a day trip from Reykjavík.
- Combine City Experiences with Wild Landscapes: Start in Reykjavík for cafés, museums, restaurants, and nightlife before heading into Iceland’s dramatic countryside for glaciers, waterfalls, beaches, and volcanic scenery.
- A Great Destination for Couples: Iceland’s secluded landscapes, Northern Lights, private hot tubs, scenic drives, and cosy countryside stays make it especially appealing for honeymoons and romantic getaways.
- Plan Around the Season You Prefer: Choose summer for long daylight hours and easier road travel, autumn or winter for the Northern Lights, or spring for fewer crowds and changing landscapes.
- Customise Your Iceland Holiday: Whether you want a Northern Lights escape, honeymoon, family holiday, adventure-filled road trip, or relaxed nature getaway, your Iceland tour package can be planned around your travel dates, interests, budget, and pace.
Choose the Right Iceland Tour Package for Your Travel Style
The ideal Iceland tour package depends on how you want to travel; couples can choose romantic stays and geothermal lagoons, families can enjoy relaxed sightseeing, while adventure seekers can focus on glaciers, ice caves, and the Northern Lights. With Pickyourtrail, you can customise your itinerary, stays, experiences, and route based on your interests, trip duration, and budget.

Whether you are travelling as a couple, with family or with friends, Pickyourtrail can help you build an Iceland package from India around your travel dates, interests, duration and budget.
Best Experiences to Add to Your Iceland Tour Package
Iceland is best experienced through its landscapes and outdoor experiences. When building your Iceland tour package, choose experiences based on your travel season, available time and interests rather than trying to fit everything into one trip.
- The Golden Circle: This popular day route covers three major attractions, namely Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall. At Þingvellir, you can see the landscape shaped by the movement of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. The route is close to Reykjavík, making it an easy addition to a short Iceland itinerary.
- The South Coast: The South Coast is home to some of Iceland's most famous landscapes. Visit Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, walk along the black-sand shores of Reynisfjara, and continue east to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and nearby Diamond Beach, where icebergs wash ashore.
- Geothermal Spas: Relax in Iceland's naturally heated waters at the Blue Lagoon or Sky Lagoon. A geothermal spa visit is an easy way to unwind after sightseeing and can be included in both couple and family itineraries, depending on age restrictions and your travel plans.
- Northern Lights Hunting: The main Northern Lights season in Iceland runs from September to April, when longer hours of darkness make the aurora easier to see. Guided tours often travel outside Reykjavík to areas with less light pollution.
- Glacier and Ice Cave Adventures: Travellers can explore Iceland's glaciers with a guided glacier hike or visit a natural ice cave during the appropriate winter season. Vatnajökull is Iceland's largest glacier and covers a significant part of the country's southeast. Ice-cave conditions can change, so visits should always be made with an authorised guide.
- Whale Watching: Whale-watching tours operate from several locations, including Reykjavík and Húsavík. Summer is a popular time for whale watching, although the species and chances of sightings vary by location and season.
- Snæfellsnes Peninsula: Often described as “Iceland in Miniature,” the Snæfellsnes Peninsula combines volcanic landscapes, black-sand beaches, fishing villages, dramatic cliffs and the Snæfellsjökull glacier. It is a good choice if you have an extra day to add to your Iceland itinerary.
- Reykjavik City Life: In the capital city, travellers can explore the Hallgrímskirkja, walk along the waterfront, see Harpa Concert Hall and explore the city's cafes, restaurants and design stores.
- Icelandic Cuisine: Food is another way to experience Icelandic culture. Try local favourites such as Icelandic lamb, plokkfiskur (fish stew) and skyr. Reykjavík also has restaurants serving vegetarian and international food, making it easier for Indian travellers to find familiar options alongside Icelandic dishes.
Planning Your Iceland Holiday? Here's What Most Travellers Miss
Iceland may look easy to explore on a map, but weather, road conditions, daylight hours and long driving distances can significantly affect your itinerary. Planning these details can make your Iceland holiday more comfortable and less rushed. Here's what we help travellers plan around.
Underestimating Driving Distances and Weather: The Ring Road may look compact on a map, but driving times can be longer than expected. Winter also brings fewer daylight hours and changing road conditions.
- How Pickyourtrail helps: We can plan realistic daily driving distances and account for weather-dependent activities when building your itinerary.
Booking Only One Northern Lights Tour: Seeing the Northern Lights depends on darkness, cloud cover and solar activity, so one scheduled night does not guarantee a sighting.
- How Pickyourtrail helps: Where available, an Iceland Northern Lights tour package can include multiple aurora opportunities or flexible rescheduling options offered by the tour operator.
Packing for the Wrong Season: Iceland's weather can change quickly, with wind, rain and cold conditions possible even outside winter.
- How Pickyourtrail helps: We can provide practical packing guidance based on your travel month and planned activities.
Leaving Too Little Time for Your Schengen Visa: Indian travellers need a Schengen visa for a short tourist trip to Iceland. Visa appointments and processing can take time, particularly during busy travel periods.
- How Pickyourtrail helps: Get guidance on the required documents, travel insurance and visa application timeline so you can prepare well before departure.
Trying to See Too Much in Too Little Time: Iceland rewards a slower itinerary. The Ring Road alone is 1,322 km, so trying to cover the entire route in only a few days can leave you spending more time behind the wheel than exploring.
- How Pickyourtrail helps: We can recommend an itinerary based on your available days and interests, whether you want a short Reykjavík and Golden Circle break or a longer Ring Road journey.
Choosing Between Self-Drive and Guided Tours: Self-drive trips offer more flexibility but require confidence with Icelandic roads and changing weather conditions. Guided tours reduce the driving responsibility but follow a more structured schedule.
- How Pickyourtrail helps: We can help you compare both options based on your travel style, itinerary and driving comfort before you book.
Iceland Visa & Travel Requirements for Indian Travellers
Planning an Iceland tour from India? Check your visa, passport, insurance and other travel requirements before booking your trip. Here's a quick overview of the essentials:
|
Requirement |
Details |
|
Iceland Visa Requirement |
Indian passport holders generally need a Schengen short-stay visa (Type C) to visit Iceland for tourism. Applications in India are submitted through the designated VFS Global process. |
|
Passport Validity |
Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure from the Schengen Area and must have been issued within the previous 10 years. |
|
Stay Limit |
Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure from the Schengen Area and must have been issued within the previous 10 years. |
|
Travel Insurance |
Travel medical insurance is required and must provide at least 4,246,500 ISK (€30,000 / ~₹3,350,190) coverage for medical emergencies, with coverage valid for the required Schengen travel period. |
|
Entry/Exit System |
The EES has been fully operational since 10 April 2026. It digitally records entries and exits of eligible non-EU travellers at Schengen external borders and replaces traditional passport stamping. Biometric information may also be recorded. |
|
Currency |
Iceland uses the Icelandic króna (ISK). International cards are widely used, although carrying a small amount of backup cash can still be useful. |
|
Language |
Icelandic is the official language. English is widely spoken, particularly in hotels, restaurants and tourist areas. |
|
Time Zone |
Iceland uses UTC/GMT year-round and does not observe daylight saving time. It is 5 hours 30 minutes behind India during India's standard time. |
|
SIM Card / eSIM |
Local SIM cards and international eSIMs are available and can be useful for navigation, communication and accessing travel information. The three main local mobile network operators in Iceland are Síminn, Vodafone Iceland (Sýn) and Nova. |
|
Power Adapter |
Iceland uses Type C and Type F sockets with a 230V supply. Indian travellers should carry a suitable universal travel adapter. |
|
Local Transport |
Guided tours, private transfers, and self-drive rentals are the most practical ways to get around, since public transport outside Reykjavik is limited |
Best Time to Visit Iceland
Iceland is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit depends on what you want to experience. Summer brings long daylight hours and easier access to many outdoor attractions, while autumn and winter offer darker skies for Northern Lights viewing.
|
Season |
Months |
Best For |
|
Winter (Aurora Season) |
September – March |
Northern Lights, ice caves, snowmobiling, cosy geothermal spa days |
|
Shoulder Season |
April, May & September |
Milder weather, fewer crowds, waterfalls at full flow from snowmelt |
|
Summer (Midnight Sun) |
June – August |
Road trips, hiking, whale watching, near round-the-clock daylight |
- Winter (September–March): The prime window for aurora chasing, with the darkest, clearest skies typically between November and February. The long hours of darkness during this period provide better conditions for aurora viewing. Ice caves and some snow-based activities are also available during the colder months, depending on weather and local operating conditions.
- Shoulder Season (April, May, September): These months bring longer daylight hours, fewer visitors than the peak summer months and changing landscapes as winter gives way to spring. Snowmelt can also increase the flow of some waterfalls. However, conditions can still vary, so check road and activity availability before travelling.
- Summer (June–August): Summer is the best time for Iceland road trips, hiking and long days of sightseeing. Iceland experiences very long daylight hours around the summer solstice, making it possible to explore for much longer each day. Whale watching is also popular during this period. However, summer is Iceland's peak travel season, so flights, hotels and popular attractions can be more expensive and busy.
How Many Days Are Enough for Iceland?
The ideal Iceland tour package duration depends on the places you want to visit, the season and how much time you want to spend driving. For a first trip, 6–8 days works well for Iceland's main highlights, while 10–12 days gives you more time for a Ring Road journey without rushing.
- 4–5 Days: Best for a short Iceland getaway covering Reykjavík, the Golden Circle and selected South Coast attractions. It works well if you have limited time but want to experience Iceland's major highlights.
- 6–7 Days: A good choice for a first-time trip, with enough time for Reykjavík, the Golden Circle, South Coast waterfalls and a glacier lagoon. If travelling during the Northern Lights season, you can also leave room for an aurora tour.
- 8–9 Days: Gives you more flexibility to explore the South Coast, add the Snæfellsnes Peninsula or spend more time at individual attractions instead of moving between destinations every day.
- 10–12 Days: Recommended for travellers who want to explore more of Iceland, including a Ring Road route, without making the trip feel rushed. You can also add extra activities or allow more flexibility for changing weather.
- 12+ Days: Ideal if you want a slower Iceland itinerary or plan to combine Iceland with another European destination. This gives you more time to explore without packing too many long travel days into the trip.
Whichever duration you choose, Iceland trip packages can be customised around your travel dates, interests, preferred pace and budget.

My family and I took a trip to Iceland with Pickyourtrail 2 weeks ago, and it was one of the most unforgettable experiences we've ever had. We travelled there to see aurora lights and we got extremely happy to see them on all nights during our stay in Reykjavik! Thanks very much to the team at Pickyourtrail who helped us every step of our way through this trip. The itinerary was perfectly created as per our choices. The hotels they chose for us in Akureyri and Vik were also centrally located with so many amenities. They kept us informed about every small thing on trip, which made our holiday hassle-free as they state. Their support chat is round the clock and they will get back to you even in the middle of the night, which was very useful to us when we faced minor inconveniences during an activity but their team resolved those issues almost immediately. I will definitely recommend their services to everyone. Will surely reach out to them for my next international holiday. Thank you team Pickyourtrail, once again!

Was very happy to work with Samrit from Pick your trail. I wanted to plan an offbeat trip to Iceland and in fact got a lot of useful information from him that is otherwise difficult to procure from googling. He was very patient in understanding my requirements and gave suggestions here and there. Being a constant traveller, he is one of the best travel planners I have worked with :-) Highly recommending Pick Your Trail. Will definitely come back to them for my next trip.
