We booked a package tour to Vietnam through Pick Your Trail, and it turned out to be an amazing experience. The entire trip was so well-organized, and every destination included in the package was managed with great attention to detail. The breakfast and lunch provided were excellent, and each guide and driver was friendly and approachable throughout the journey. A special thanks to Anith Peter, Soundharya, and Abi Nanthakumar for their kind support in making this tour truly memorable. Overall, heartfelt thanks to the entire Pick Your Trail team for such a wonderful and well-planned arrangement. However, I did face a few issues related to the accommodation, which Ill explain in my next review.

Vietnam Family Tour Packages

  • Starting Price: ₹20,021 (without international flights)

Budget Vietnam Packages

Vietnam remains one of the most affordable international destinations for Indian travellers. Budget Vietnam packages from India generally start from ₹55,000–₹65,000 per person (land only) for a 5-night Hanoi and Ha Long Bay itinerary. Travellers looking for more comprehensive 6–7-night experiences can expect mid-range packages between ₹70,000 and ₹95,000 per person, depending on hotel category, internal flights, and inclusions.

  • Starting Price: ₹28,964 per person (Without Flights)

Vietnam + Cambodia Combo Packages

For travellers wanting a longer Southeast Asia holiday, Vietnam and Cambodia make an ideal combination. These Vietnam-Cambodia combo packages usually include Vietnam’s cultural and coastal highlights along with Siem Reap in Cambodia, home to the iconic Angkor Wat temple complex.

The most common extension includes a short flight from Ho Chi Minh City or Da Nang to Siem Reap, allowing travellers to explore two UNESCO-listed heritage destinations within a single itinerary.

  • Starting Price: ₹27,817 per person (excluding flights)

Vietnam Tour Packages by Trip Duration

5 Nights 6 Days Vietnam Tour Packages

A 5-night, 6-day Vietnam tour package is ideal for first-time travellers looking for a short yet comfortable international holiday. These itineraries usually focus on one region, such as Hanoi and Ha Long Bay, Da Nang and Hoi An, or a relaxing beach escape in Phu Quoc. This duration works especially well for couples and travellers with limited leave.

Starting Price: ₹16,167 per person

6-Night 7-Day Vietnam Tour Package

A well-balanced option for travellers wanting to explore two regions without rushing. Popular 6-night, 7-day Vietnam packages combine North & Central Vietnam or Central & South Vietnam, covering beaches, cultural towns, cruises, and city experiences.

Starting Price: ₹16,327 per person

8 Nights 9 Days Vietnam Tour Packages

An 8-night, 9-day Vietnam package is best suited for travellers wanting a complete Vietnam journey. These itineraries comfortably cover North, Central, and South Vietnam, including destinations such as Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Hoi An, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City.

Starting Price: ₹19,826 per person

10 Nights 11 Days Vietnam & Cambodia Tour Packages

For travellers seeking a longer Southeast Asia holiday, 10 nights 11 days Vietnam and Cambodia packages offer an excellent combination of culture, history, and scenic landscapes. These itineraries usually include Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City, and Cambodia’s famous Angkor Wat temple complex.

Starting Price: ₹27,817 per person

Common Mistake Travellers Make: Many first-time visitors try to cover Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Sapa, Da Nang, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City, and Phu Quoc in one short trip. Slower itineraries covering 2–3 regions usually offer a far better Vietnam experience.

Best Places to Visit in Vietnam

North Vietnam

  • Hanoi: Vietnam’s capital, is best explored slowly through the Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake, and historic landmarks like the Temple of Literature. Evenings are best spent enjoying bia hoi and local street food around the city’s lively lanes.
  • Ha Long Bay: This is one of the best places to visit in Vietnam and can be explored through a cruise. Day cruises often feel rushed and crowded by the afternoon. An overnight cruise lets you experience quieter sunrise hours when most tourist boats have not yet arrived.
  • Ninh Binh: Known for its karst cliffs, rice fields, and river caves, Ninh Binh is best explored through boat rides around Tam Coc and Trang An, along with cycling routes near the ancient capital of Hoa Lu. A full day from Hanoi is sufficient, though one night in Ninh Binh is better.
  • Sapa: Set high in the Hoang Lien Son mountains, Sapa is famous for layered rice terraces, cool weather, and trekking routes through Hmong and Dao ethnic villages. September-October (post-harvest gold) and May-June (terraces flood bright green) are the most photogenic months.

Central Vietnam

  • Da Nang: Combining beaches, mountain viewpoints, and modern attractions, Da Nang works well as a Central Vietnam base. Highlights include My Khe Beach, the Dragon Bridge, and Ba Na Hills with its famous Golden Bridge. The Marble Mountains are a 45-minute walk through Buddhist cave temples and offer panoramic views from the summit.
  • Hoi An: This UNESCO-listed town becomes most atmospheric after 7 PM when vehicle access reduces, and hundreds of silk lanterns reflect across the Thu Bon River. Join a cooking class (₹1,500–₹2,500 per person) in the evening, followed by riverside dining.
  • Hue: Vietnam’s former imperial capital features the historic Imperial Citadel and royal tombs along the Perfume River. Hue's cuisine is Vietnam's most refined. Bun bo Hue (spicy beef noodle soup), banh khoai (crispy pancakes) and com hen (baby clam rice), these dishes won't be found as well prepared elsewhere.
  • Phong Nha: Home to Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, this region is known for massive cave systems, jungle landscapes, underground rivers, and adventure activities like zip-lining and cave trekking. Exploring Dark Cave and zip-lining into a subterranean river are the most popular activities to add to Vietnam adventure packages.

South Vietnam

  • Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon): Vietnam’s busiest city combines rooftop cafés, colonial landmarks, and major attractions like the War Remnants Museum and the 250-km-long Cu Chi Tunnels network. The Mekong Delta (My Tho, Ben Tre) is a 2-hour drive from the city, with boat rides through floating markets, coconut candy factories, and river canals that feel completely disconnected from urban life.
  • Nha Trang: Known for beach resorts and island tours, Nha Trang also features the centuries-old Po Nagar Cham Towers built by the Cham civilisation. Vinpearl Island is a short cable-car ride and suits families wanting a resort-plus-theme-park day.
  • Phu Quoc: Vietnam’s largest island, is famous for luxury beach resorts, seafood night markets, and the world’s longest 3-rope overwater cable car connecting to Hon Thom Island. Hon Thom Cable Car (the world's longest three-rope cable car over water) connects to Vinpearl Theme Park. Night markets at Dinh Cau are the best evening option.
  • Note for Indian travellers: Phu Quoc offers 30-day visa-free entry for Indian travellers, but this only applies if you stay within the island. If your trip includes mainland Vietnam before or after Phu Quoc, you must apply for the standard Vietnam e-Visa to avoid travel restrictions or emergency issues.

Things to Do in Vietnam

Water Activities

  • Ha Long Bay overnight cruise: Book a heritage junk or modern liveaboard for 1–2 nights. Kayaking through hidden lagoons and cave swimming are the highlights. Budget ₹8,000–₹20,000 per person per night.
  • Mekong Delta boat tour: Floating markets, coconut candy factories, and narrow canal networks. Best as a day trip from HCMC or a 1-night stay in Can Tho.
  • Nha Trang island hopping: Day trips to Cham Island (Bai Nom snorkelling site) and Vinpearl Island.
  • Kayaking at Ninh Binh: Trang An boat rides through cave tunnels and karst landscapes (UNESCO-listed).

History and Culture

  • Water puppet show, Hanoi: 60-minute performance at Thang Long Theatre or Vietnamese National Academy of Music. Book evening shows in advance. Tickets ₹500–₹1,000.

Adventure

  • Trekking in Sapa: Muong Hoa Valley treks, Cat Cat village loop, and multi-day village homestay routes. Half-day to 2-day options. Guide fees: ₹1,200–₹2,500.
  • Cave exploration, Phong Nha: Paradise Cave, Phong Nha Cave, Dark Cave (with zip-line entry). ₹1,000–₹4,000 depending on cave and activity level.
  • Hai Van Pass motorbike ride: 21 km coastal mountain pass between Da Nang and Hue. Rentable by motorbike or bookable as a guided tour. One of Southeast Asia's great scenic roads.

Food Experiences

  • Street food walking tour, Hanoi Old Quarter Evening tours with a local guide covering 6–8 dishes. ₹1,200–₹2,000 per person.
  • Cooking class, Hoi An: Learn to make spring rolls, pho, and banh xeo. Usually includes a market tour. ₹1,500–₹2,500 per person.

Best Time to Visit Vietnam: Region-Wise Guide

Monsoon Travel Guide: Where to Go in Vietnam in July–August

Most Indian families prefer travelling to Vietnam during school holiday periods, particularly between May and June and again in October, while July and August also see strong demand because of summer vacations in India. However, Vietnam’s climate varies greatly from one region to another, which means weather conditions can differ significantly across the country at the same time.

Here is a region-specific breakdown for the peak Indian travel season:

July–August: Where to Go and Where to Avoid:

  • South Vietnam (HCMC & Phu Quoc): July and August bring short afternoon showers, but sightseeing and island trips remain manageable. Phu Quoc can experience rougher seas during this period.
  • Central Vietnam (Da Nang & Hoi An): This is one of the best times to visit Central Vietnam, with dry weather, clear skies, and excellent beach conditions around Da Nang, Hoi An, and Nha Trang.
  • North Vietnam (Hanoi & Ha Long Bay): North Vietnam stays hot and humid during July and August, with occasional storms affecting Ha Long Bay cruises. Sapa remains green and scenic during this season.

Best Vietnam Route for July–August: For Indian families travelling during summer holidays, Central Vietnam (Da Nang + Hoi An) first, then South (HCMC + Mekong), saving North Vietnam (Hanoi + Ha Long) for the shoulder dates at the start or end of the trip.

Getting Around Vietnam

Domestic flights: The fastest inter-city option. VietJet Air, Bamboo Airways, and Vietnam Airlines connect Hanoi, Da Nang, Nha Trang, and HCMC with flights running 1–2 hours. Cost: ₹2,000–₹6,000 per person one-way if booked in advance.

Trains: The Reunification Express connects Hanoi to HCMC via Da Nang and Nha Trang, running along the coast. Soft sleeper cabins are comfortable and scenic. The 17-hour Hanoi–Da Nang overnight train is a popular option for travellers wanting a slow, scenic alternative to flying.

Private transfers: Most reliable for families and groups.

Grab: Southeast Asia's equivalent of Ola/Uber. Works in Hanoi, Da Nang, Hoi An, HCMC, and Nha Trang. More reliable and fairly priced than hailing taxis off the street.

Visa on Arrival (VoA)

Note: Apply at least 7–10 days before your departure date to avoid delays.

Phu Quoc Visa-Free

Indian passport holders can enter Phu Quoc visa-free for up to 30 days if they travel directly to the island and stay only within Phu Quoc. India's Embassy in Hanoi issued a specific travel advisory in April 2026 after documenting cases of Indian travellers who:

  • Entered Phu Quoc visa-free and then needed to travel to mainland Vietnam (for medical treatment, flight connections, or other reasons) and were unable to do so legally
  • Were effectively stranded because mainland Vietnam requires a separate visa

Vietnam Food Guide: What to Eat and Where

Must-Try Vietnamese Dishes

  • Pho: Flat rice noodles in bone broth with beef (bo) or chicken (ga). The broth takes 8–12 hours. A bowl costs ₹150–₹400 at street level and ₹500–₹900 at sit-down restaurants.
  • Banh Mi: A French baguette adapted with Vietnamese fillings: pâté, pickled daikon, cucumber, and coriander. Vegetarian versions available. ₹80–₹150 at street stalls.
  • Bún Chả: Char-grilled pork patties served in a sweet and sour broth with rice vermicelli and herbs. Hanoi's signature lunch dish.
  • Cao Lau: Thick wheat noodles with pork and crispy rice crackers. Available mainly in Hoi An. Local tradition says the noodles are made using water from ancient Cham wells, which cost around ₹200–₹500 per bowl.
  • Banh Xeo: Crispy rice flour crepe with shrimp, pork, and bean sprouts, wrapped in lettuce and dipped in fish sauce. A central Vietnam speciality. ₹300–₹600.
  • Com Tam: Broken rice with grilled pork, fried egg, and pickled vegetables. HCMC's working-class breakfast. ₹150–₹350.
  • Che: Vietnamese dessert: sweet soups made with mung beans, taro, coconut milk, tapioca, or fruit. ₹50–₹150 per cup from street vendors.

Indian & Vegetarian Food in Vietnam

Vietnam is one of the easiest Southeast Asian destinations for Indian travellers when it comes to food. Strong Buddhist influences, vegetarian-friendly dishes, and growing Indian tourism have made Indian and vegetarian food widely accessible across the country. Indian and vegetarian food is easily available across major Vietnam destinations like Hanoi, Da Nang, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City. Many restaurants serve North Indian, South Indian, Jain-friendly, vegan, and pure vegetarian meals catering specifically to Indian travellers.

  • Hanoi: Namaste India (13 Hang Buom), Dalcheeni (52 Hang Be) are good for dal, paneer dishes, and North Indian bread.
  • HCMC: Masala Art (Bui Vien area), Tandoor Restaurant (2 Ngo Duc Ke), Namaste India (Pham Ngu Lao)
  • Da Nang: Bollywood Indian Restaurant (An Thuong area)
  • Hoi An: Several Indian-run restaurants along Tran Hung Dao Street

Note: Fish sauce (nuoc mam) is a base ingredient in most Vietnamese cooking. If you're strictly vegetarian, specify explicitly and verify at each restaurant.

Nightlife in Vietnam

  • Hanoi: Hanoi’s nightlife is more atmospheric than club-focused, centred around the Old Quarter and Ta Hien Street, where bia hoi beer, live music cafés, and packed street corners create a lively local experience until midnight.
  • Ho Chi Minh City: Vietnam’s most vibrant nightlife scene is in Ho Chi Minh City, where Bui Vien Walking Street, rooftop lounges like Chill Sky Bar, and late-night clubs stay active until 3–4 AM.
  • Da Nang: Beach clubs along My Khe and the promenade near the Dragon Bridge. Modest compared to Hanoi and HCMC, but pleasant.
  • Hoi An: Evenings in Hoi An are quieter and experience-driven, with lantern-lit streets, riverside cafés, traditional performances, and the monthly Full Moon Lantern Festival creating a unique atmosphere.
  • Nha Trang: Known for its energetic beachfront nightlife along Tran Phu Boulevard, where beach clubs, bars, and music venues attract younger travellers and group holidays.

Shopping in Vietnam

Shopping in Vietnam ranges from bustling night markets and tailor shops to handcrafted souvenirs and affordable local fashion. From silk lanterns in Hoi An to Vietnamese coffee and handmade ceramics, the country offers plenty of unique things to bring back for Indian travellers.

Best Shopping Spots in Vietnam

  1. Hanoi: Hanoi’s Old Quarter is known for street markets, lacquerware, silk products, handmade crafts, and Vietnamese coffee shops selling locally roasted beans.
  2. Ho Chi Minh City: Vietnam’s biggest shopping scene is in Ho Chi Minh City, especially around Ben Thanh Market, Saigon Centre, and local street markets selling clothes, bags, souvenirs, and snacks at affordable prices.
  3. Hoi An: Hoi An Ancient Town is famous for custom tailoring, handmade leather products, silk lanterns, and locally crafted souvenirs made by family-run workshops.
  4. Da Nang: Da Nang is popular for seafood markets, marble stone carvings from the Marble Mountains area, local snacks, and beachwear shopping near My Khe Beach.

Practical Tips for Indian Travellers in Vietnam

  • Language: English is commonly spoken in hotels, cafés, and tourist attractions, but translation apps help in smaller towns and rural regions.
  • Connectivity: Viettel and Vinaphone tourist SIMs with 5–10 GB data usually cost ₹300–₹600 and are easily available at airports.
  • Clothing: Light cotton clothes work best for Vietnam’s weather, while modest clothing is recommended for temples and pagodas.
  • Electricity: Vietnam uses Type A and C sockets with a 220V power supply, so carrying a universal adapter is recommended for Indian travellers.
  • Safety: Vietnam is considered safe, though travellers should use Grab for transport, stay alert in crowded markets, and be careful while crossing busy roads.
  • Tipping: Tipping is not compulsory, but guides, drivers, and restaurant staff usually appreciate small tips for good service.
  • Medical: A basic travel medicine kit, bottled water, and standard food precautions are recommended while travelling across Vietnam.

Common Mistakes Indians Make in Vietnam

  • Not carrying cash
  • Underestimating domestic flight baggage rules
  • Applying for the wrong visa entry port
  • Assuming vegetarian means no fish sauce
  • Overpacking too many regions

Had booked an international trip for Vietnam and Malaysia through Pickyourtrial. I was contacted by one Rishika Rao L who helped me create customised itinerary, as what I was looking for was not present by default in the app. She provided the itinerary along with the names of the contacts in Vietnam and Malaysia. Though sceptical at first with Pickyourtrial, the trip was really smooth and enjoyable. It was hassle free as everything was arranged as per the itinerary and the contacts were very prompt in chucking on us for either transport or any activities mentioned in the itinerary. They also helped us with Visas, which was granted to us without any fuss.

I travelled to Vietnam with my wife and 2 teenage sons this month. This was my 3rd trip booked end to end so far via Pickyourtrail though after a gap of 5 years, thanks to the intervening Covid situation for almost 2 years. Doing literally back-to-back and that too 3 trips with Pickyourtrail, should say something about what I think of the experience of planning a vacation via them. This latest Vietnam trip was no different and me and my family thoroughly enjoyed the trip. I'd like to make a special mention of Adarsh Krishnan, my travel consultant at Pickyourtrail, who suggested Vietnam as a destination after hearing what I was looking to achieve from my vacation, and from start to end, patiently bore my meticulous questions about the trip, my expectations from it and curated a very well-planned itinerary, most importantly matching my budget. Thanks to Vijay and his team for getting us our visas with no sweat. To Edwin and his team in Vietnam for the local support and updates about each day's schedule. And finally, to the Pickyourtrail 24/7 support team via their app, who covered my back right through the trip from start to finish and answered all my queries any time of day/night. The highlight of the trip was the cruise along Halong Bay, it was a breathtaking view, we got to do Kayaking and the cruise was a great experience. Overall, a satisfying and fulfilled trip to Vietnam and many thanks to Pickyourtrail for the itinerary. Will definitely do my next international trip, whenever that happens, via Pickyourtrail.
