  4. Things To Do In Singapore

Singapore stands out as one of Asia's top travel destinations, and it is worth all the hype. This compact island blends futuristic architecture with deep-rooted culture, fine dining with hawker stalls, and busy city vibes with peaceful green spaces. Whether you're planning a quick weekend trip or a longer getaway, there's something here for every kind of traveller. When it comes to unforgettable things to do in Singapore, the options are endless, from exploring the iconic Marina Bay Sands, strolling through Gardens by the Bay, shopping in Orchard Road, or unwinding at Sentosa Island. For Indian travellers, Singapore presents exceptional value, as you can enter visa-free for up to 96 hours, English is widely spoken, and getting around is a breeze.

Key Takeaways

  • Singapore offers incredible value – Experience world-class attractions, diverse food scenes, and cultural districts within a compact, walkable city-state.
  • Budget smartly – Indian travellers can travel to Singapore fully covered in ₹3000-5000 INR per day, which includes local transport, food, sightseeing, etc.
  • Plan 3-4 days minimum - This will help you explore the main attractions of the city, such as Marina Bay, Gardens by the Bay, cultural neighbourhoods, and the Island of Sentosa, without hurrying
  • Visit between February and April or October and November – These are the months with the best weather in Singapore and fewer tourists.
  • Use the MRT system – Singapore's efficient metro connects all major attractions and costs just ₹10-50 per ride

Cultural Heritage and Historic Districts

Chinatown: Traditional Meets Modern

Chinatown_Singapore_ed212c9668.jpg

Chinatown remains one of Singapore’s most authentic cultural experiences, where historic shophouses sit alongside temples and modern cafés. At its heart is the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, a spiritual landmark with free entry.

Wander through its narrow streets filled with tea houses, souvenir shops, and traditional medicine stores, giving you a glimpse into old Singapore. Don’t miss the Chinatown Heritage Centre for a dose of history, or simply take in the vibrant street art and architecture along Pagoda and Temple Streets.

  • Attractions: Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, Sri Mariamman Temple, Chinatown Heritage Centre, Chinatown Street Market and Heritage Murals
  • Best Time to Visit Chinatown: Late afternoon (4:00 PM to 8:00 PM)

Budget tip: Most temples in Chinatown offer free entry, making it an excellent budget-friendly cultural experience.

Little India: A Slice of Home

Little_India_927a4fc3d7.jpg

Little India offers Indian travellers a comforting taste of home while highlighting Singapore’s Indian roots. At its centre is the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, dedicated to Goddess Kali, and it is open daily to visitors. Eating in Little India is both affordable and authentic. Tekka Centre on Serangoon Road is one of Singapore's best hawker centres for Indian food, serving South Indian thalis from around ₹250, banana leaf meals, and freshly made dosas. Just a short walk away, Mustafa Centre is open 24 hours and features an Indian food court, familiar grocery brands, and some of Singapore's best currency exchange rates.

Serangoon Road buzzes with activity, lined with Indian restaurants, spice shops, silk stores, and gold jewellery outlets. The area comes alive during festivals like Deepavali, when the entire district is decorated with colourful lights and decorations.

  • Attractions: Mustafa Centre, House of Tan Teng Niah, Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple and Abdul Gafoor Mosque
  • Best time to visit Little India: weekday mornings (10 AM to 12 PM)

Pro tip: Visit during weekday afternoons to avoid weekend crowds and enjoy a more relaxed exploration of the temples and markets.

Kampong Glam: Malay Heritage Hub

Malay_Heritage_Centre_bc5888d4e4.jpg

Kampong Glam highlights Singapore’s Malay and Islamic heritage. Nearby, Haji Lane blends tradition with trend, offering indie boutiques, street art, and stylish cafes. This vibrant mix of culture and creativity makes the district one of Singapore’s most unique and fascinating areas to explore. The Sultan Mosque (Masjid Sultan) on North Bridge Road is the heart of Kampong Glam, and its stunning golden dome alone is worth the visit. Entry is free for non-Muslim visitors outside prayer times. Dress modestly, and sarongs are available at the entrance.

Just a two-minute walk away is the Malay Heritage Centre, housed in the former Istana Kampong Glam. Entry costs around ₹250 for adults and includes access to nine galleries showcasing the history of Singapore's Malay community. It's one of the most underrated cultural attractions in Singapore.

  • Attractions: Sultan Mosque, Haji Lane, Arab Street, Bussorah Street and Malay Heritage Centre
  • Best time to visit Kampong Glam: weekday late afternoons (between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM)

Tips: The halal food options around Arab Street are excellent. Try Zam Zam Restaurant on North Bridge Road for murtabak

Modern Attractions and Iconic Architecture

Marina Bay Sands: Singapore's Crown Jewel

Marina Bay Sands dominates Singapore's skyline, combining multiple attractions in one iconic venue. The SkyPark Observation Deck offers panoramic city views with entry fees of ₹1,800, while the famous infinity pool remains exclusive to hotel guests. The resort features luxury shopping, world-class restaurants, and the ArtScience Museum with regular international exhibitions. One of the best free things to do in Singapore is the walk from Merlion Park to Helix Bridge and the ArtScience Museum, taking just 20–25 minutes. Visit around 7 PM for stunning sunset views and some of the city's best photo opportunities with Marina Bay Sands in the background.

Afterwards, head to the Event Plaza for the free Spectra Light & Water Show, held nightly at 8 PM and 9 PM. The show lasts about 15 minutes, and it's best to arrive 10 minutes early for a good viewing spot.

Money-saving tip: Skip the expensive observation deck and head to the nearby Helix Bridge for equally stunning views of Marina Bay Sands and the city skyline.

Gardens by the Bay: Nature Meets Technology

Gardens_By_The_Bay_f9efeb93ed.avif

Gardens by the Bay brings Singapore’s “City in a Garden” vision to life with its fusion of nature and tech. Don’t miss the Supertree Grove’s free light show (7:45 & 8:45 PM). For ₹2,000, explore the Cloud Forest’s indoor waterfall and the Flower Dome’s global plant displays. It’s a great escape from the city’s heat and a must-visit place in Singapore for nature lovers and photographers. The views, especially at night, are nothing short of magical.

Step inside the Cloud Forest to experience its spectacular 35-metre indoor waterfall, where the cool mist offers a refreshing break from Singapore's midday heat. The elevated walkway winds through lush highland plants and around the mist-covered mountain, and you'll need about 45–60 minutes to explore it at a comfortable pace.

Practical tip: Visit during late afternoon to enjoy the conservatories in daylight and stay for the evening Supertree light show.

Sentosa Island: Entertainment Paradise

Sentosa Island is Singapore’s go-to entertainment hub, reachable via the Sentosa Express monorail (₹300 round trip). It is undoubtedly one of the top Singapore tourist places. Highlights at Sentosa Island include Universal Studios (₹4,500 entry pp), S.E.A. Aquarium, Adventure Cove Waterpark, and the iconic Merlion. With lively spots like Siloso Beach offering bars and water sports, it’s the perfect tropical escape just minutes from the city. For families, Universal Studios Singapore is the top attraction. Arrive when the gates open at 10 AM and book your tickets online in advance, as same-day gate prices are usually higher.

Couples can skip the theme parks and opt for a cable car ride from HarbourFront (around ₹1,200 round trip), followed by a sunset walk along the coast and dinner at Siloso Beach—all for under ₹2,500 per person. Budget travellers can enjoy Palawan Beach for free and walk across its suspension bridge to the tiny island marked as the southernmost point of continental Asia.

Budget alternative: Skip the paid attractions and enjoy Sentosa's free beaches, walking trails, and sunset views from the southern coastline.

Food Scene: From Hawker Centres to Fine Dining

Hawker Centres: Singapore's Culinary Soul

Hawker_Centres_00698009cd.jpg

Singapore has over 120 hawker centres with around 6,000 food stalls spread across the island. They started in the 1960s when the government moved street vendors off the roads into organised open-air centres. Today, they're a UNESCO-recognised part of Singapore's cultural heritage and the primary way most Singaporeans eat daily. A full meal at a hawker centre costs SGD 3–8 (₹190–500). That same meal in an air-conditioned restaurant costs three times as much and tastes no better.

For Indian travellers, hawker centres solve a problem most international destinations don't: you will always find something familiar, always find something vegetarian, and always find something under ₹400

Top Picks:

  • Maxwell Food Centre (Chinatown): Try the famous Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice (₹250–350).
  • Lau Pa Sat (CBD): A Victorian-era food court that turns into a lively satay street every evening, perfect for grilled skewers and vibrant vibes.
  • Chinatown Complex Food Centre: Singapore's largest hawker hub, housing more than 700 stalls across its multi-storey complex with over 220 food stalls offering a wide range of local Chinese favourites and regional specialities.

Must-try dishes: Hainanese Chicken Rice, Char Kway Teow, Laksa, Chilli Crab, and Kaya Toast represent Singapore's diverse culinary heritage.

Michelin-Starred Affordability

Hawker Chan gained fame for serving the world’s cheapest Michelin-starred meal—Soy Sauce Chicken Rice for just ₹120 at Chinatown Complex. It’s proof that great food doesn’t have to be pricey. Other budget-friendly Michelin spots include Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle, offering top-quality dishes at hawker centre prices.

Shopping Districts and Markets

Orchard Road: Luxury Shopping Hub

Orchard_Road_singapore_a535791a76.jpg

The 2km long Orchard Road is the best shopping street in Singapore and includes the famous shopping malls like ION Orchard, Paragon and Takashimaya. It is a paradise of luxury and foreign brands. The best time to visit here is the Great Singapore Sale (June-July), when big discounts are offered. This suits the Indian travellers, especially those interested in getting international labels at a low cost.

  • What to buy: Luxury fashion, designer handbags, watches, cosmetics, jewellery, sneakers, and electronics.
  • Average price range: ₹5,000–₹2,00,000+, depending on the brand and product.

Bugis Street: Budget Shopping Paradise

Bugis Street Market is the opposite of Orchard Road, as it has a low-cost atmosphere where you can get t-shirts costing just ₹50 or even something unusual to take home. It is fantastic with discounts, and it is available every day. Bugis Junction mall (next door) is the same, except that it is air-conditioned with a mix of medium-priced shopping.

  • What to buy: Budget clothing, accessories, souvenirs, phone cases, bags, sunglasses, and gifts.
  • Average price range: ₹50–₹3,000.

Arab Street and Haji Lane: Unique Finds

Haji_Lane_1c18c2b58c.jpg

Arab Street is your one-stop for textiles, carpets and other traditional Middle Eastern products, and Haji Lane is where to go in case of vintage clothing, custom-made accessories and novelty items as souvenirs. Both streets provide a different kind of shopping that you cannot get in ordinary malls.

  • What to buy: Handmade jewellery, vintage clothing, boutique fashion, perfumes, textiles, home décor, and souvenirs.
  • Average price range: ₹300–₹10,000.

Bargaining tip: In the street markets, the sales are negotiable, and friendly bargaining will grant you 20-30% discounts in most cases.

Nightlife and Entertainment

Marina Bay Waterfront

When the sun goes down, Marina Bay is illuminated, and Merlion Park presents a fantastic view of Marina Bay Sands and the skyline. There are fancy bars and high-end restaurants, which are quite expensive. To get a panoramic view of the city, visit the Singapore Flyer (2,500 at sunset). Otherwise, a free view of the same can be experienced at the Helix Bridge.

Clarke Quay: Riverside Party District

Clarke_Quay_ee1858a2ce.jpg

The nightlife hotspot in the city of Singapore, Clarke Quay, comes to life after 8 PM, where the bars, clubs, live music, and riverside restaurants can be found. Here you can find budget pubs and posh bars, something that suits every traveller, along with the view of the beautiful Singapore River.

Safety note: Singapore's strict laws make it one of the world's safest nightlife destinations, but drinks can be expensive (₹800-1,500 per cocktail).

Practical Tips for Indian Travellers

Transportation and Getting Around

Singapore has an extensive MRT system where a commuter can travel quickly and at a low price to all destinations. The tourist pass in Singapore, costing ₹600 to ₹1,000, will give unlimited rides on MRT and buses and, as such, is a good deal.

Locally, Grab (Southeast Asia’s version of Uber) is comfortable yet more expensive, whereas walking could be the fastest mode of transport due to the city’s compact size and walkable streets.

Budget Planning

On average, Indian travellers can enjoy Singapore on a budget of around ₹3,000-5,000 rupees a day, when it comes to sightseeing, eating, and local transportation. The budget will cover meals available in the Hawker Centre, use of public transport and 1-2 paid attractions per day.

More high-end services such as fine dining, high-end shopping and high-end attractions can quickly turn this budget into twice the value, but Singapore delivers great value at every price.

Weather and Best Times to Visit

Singapore is hot, and the most favourable sightseeing is during the dry seasons (Feb-April and Oct-November). Wet season (Nov-Jan) has afternoon showers, so that should not be an impediment to travel plans since there are numerous indoor attractions.

Packing tip: Lightweight, breathable clothing and a small umbrella are recommended because the weather in Singapore can vary a lot throughout the day.

Bottom Line

Singapore has a reputation as one of Asia's most popular destinations, with a combination of traditions and modernities, with its temples and skyscrapers, hawker food and Michelin meals. It's easy to explore the city, which is small in size. Looking to get culture, food, shopping or efficiency, Singapore has got all of it. Set your Singapore itinerary to 3-4 days, budget a daily spend of ₹4,000 and be blown away.

First thing I wish to mention is that, *the pick your trail* stands true to their motto " hassle free holidays", it was a dream holiday of Singapore -Bali, for the whole family. From the day I contacted them ( month of feb) & downloaded the app, they were very helpful, first, Mr.Sanjay helped me almost for everything, right from the itinerary to give a good deal & gave a good help to make payments easily, he answered all my queries patiently & made many changes many times in itinerary & dates as I wanted. Thanks to him. Once the tour custodian Mr.Vincent Selva Kumar was assigned, I almost depended on him for everything, he was most helpful & patient with my queries & always(24 7) available & solved them immediately. The whole app*picks your trail* is made very meticulously & perfect. A big thumbs-up to the whole team. They do not leave you in the middle, but always there with you, even abroad! The Singapore stay & all the transfers were very easy & without any problem, the overseas team took very good care. Hotel Mercure Singapore was also very good with good food, they even arranged our early check-in also. All our flight reservations were proper with good options of Singapore airlines. Chitranshu* from the team gave very good guidance for Visa & all, he was very helpful & cooperative. Bali stay at Kuta at Cross vibe pasha* was very good, the hotel is at a very location & with good people, only a small issue, they did not include the child (11 years ) in the complimentary dinner, how come? We had to buy dinner for him that day. Our driver and guide Mr.Subandi "subu"was a very joyful person always there for you, always smiling & happy man! He was always with us and took very good care of us. Thanks to the local ground team also. In Ubud* while setting the itinerary a small point was missed, that is non inclusion of *Ulun danu* temple on the day when we were doing north Bali, as I had unnecessary included it as extra activity on another day & paid extra for it. The issue was promptly solved by the team & I am happy we did it on the day when we visited Handara gate, which is not worth it, as they charge you, even if you step down the coach & try to take out your mobiles! My suggestion is that, you include the iconic temple of *Ulun danu* in the itinerary henceforth. The stay at *Dhankha resort* was excellent. The villas are beautiful & the location is wonderful too! The complimentary dinner(child inclusive) & spa , everything was very good & appreciated. Subu always took us to nice places for lunch & was very friendly, we miss him a lot, I even miss Sanjay, Vincent, Chitranshu who were always there for me online. It was their grand efforts which made our dream holiday come true!! A big thumbs-up to all of them.

A Honest Review by a happy customer: In this technology driven world, going for a trip in a country like Singapore is not a difficult task.. We can easily book flights, entry tickets for sightseeing, cab for commutation, hotels etc via online as per our convenience.. Then what is the role of travel aggregator on a trip? Yes.. they arrange everything on behalf of us and guide us throughout our trip so we need not to worry about anything during the tour.. Before the start of the trip, Pick your trail has suggested good places for sightseeing with family, arranged visa, arranged accommodation with awesome breakfast, vehicle for pick up and drop where the driver can speak our language.. We have spent 5 days in Singapore with family and the trip went very well.. Our requirement is to board the vehicle on time and the rest of the things take care by Pick your trail nicely.. I strongly recommend PYT for any abroad trip for hassle free experience which we had in our Singapore trip...
