Even if you’re not planning to take any rides, a visit to Luna Park is a must just for the breathtaking views it offers. Moreover, this park holds significant historical value in Sydney. About the park:

History of Luna Park:

The first-ever Luna Park was established at Coney Island, New York in 1903. Later, as the park became more popular, several branches were opened across the world. The first Luna Park in Australia was opened at St.Kilda in Melbourne and later in Glenelg. However, due to some difficulties, the Glenelg branch had to be shut. Hence, they decided to relocate the park to Sydney. Luna Park was officially opened in October 1935. However, the park has been shut a few times for redevelopment. Later in 2004, Luna Park re-opened again for its visitors.

The big entrance:

One of the significant attractions in the park apart from the rides is its entrance. Luna Park has a 9-meter wide smiling face and flanking towers presiding over the entrance. The design was similar to the other smiling faces seen in Melbourne, Hong Kong, and the USA Luna Parks. This smiling moon face was designed by Arthur Barton in 1960. This grinning face can be seen at Milsons Point from vantage points close to the Sydney Harbor Bridge and Circular Quay.

Things to do:

Luna Park has several rides that will give you an exhilarating and fun experience. The rides have been categorized into yellow, green, and red rides depending on your height.

Have a thrilling experience on the Ferris wheel or the devil’s drop and maybe even the slides. You’ll have plenty of options to choose from. You should even take the Tango Train on the edge of one of the most beautiful harbors in the world.

Coney Island:

When you’re at Luna park, do not miss Coney Island. This is the only example of a 1930 funhouse operating in the world. Experience the rush of riding the Slides, faltering through Barrels of Fun, and taking on the Mirror Maze.

Games: Slideshow Alley

If you want to take a break from the rides or if you don’t prefer taking the rides, then this would be a perfect spot for you to spend your time at. At the Slide-show alley, you can find yourself playing these games and winning a prize if you’re lucky. You can try your hand at the famous laughing clowns by popping a ball into the open-mouthed clowns or the Knockems where you’ll literally have to knock them down with a ball. If you’re looking for something that will give you the real carnival experience, then you must go for the Hi striker, where you have to hammer your way to the top. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? It usually takes a few swings to hear the ding.  There’s something for everyone in the slideshow alley so be sure to visit it.

Getting there:

As the park is centrally located, you have plenty of transportation options to choose from. If you stay closer to the harbor bridge and don’t mind walking, then you can walk across the bridge and a little further from there to reach the park. If you’re looking for public transport, then you can take the train lines T1 and T9 from the central station through Town Hall and Wynyard and reach Milson point train station. You can also take a ferry from Circular Quay and Darling Harbour directly to the Milson Point wharf.

Visitors information:

Entrance Fees: There’s no entry ticket for the Park. You will have to pay only for the rides that you will be taking.
