Eight nights is a long holiday by Bhutan standards, and western Bhutan alone will not fill it without padding. A Bhutan 8 Nights 9 Days Package makes sense when you use the extra time to travel east to Trongsa and Bumthang, the spiritual heartland of the country, or to add both Phobjikha and Haa to the western valleys. Done that way, every day has a reason to be there. With 10+ years of travel expertise and strong destination knowledge, Pickyourtrail helps you choose the right route, stay and experiences for an 8-night Bhutan holiday. Whether you want ancient temples, long mountain drives or valleys with very few visitors, you can customise your itinerary around your interests, pace and budget.

Best Bhutan 8 Nights 9 Days Itineraries
Eight nights suit a west-to-centre journey. Here are some of the best Bhutan 8 Nights 9 Days Package options:
- Thimphu, Punakha, Trongsa, Bumthang & Paro: The classic cultural journey into central Bhutan, flying back from Bumthang if possible.
- Thimphu, Punakha, Phobjikha, Bumthang & Paro: Breaks the drive east with a night in the crane valley instead of Trongsa.
- Western Bhutan in Full: Thimphu, Punakha, Phobjikha, Paro and an overnight in Haa, for travellers who prefer shorter drives over new regions.
- Overland from Phuentsholing: Enters by road from Bagdogra, travels as far as Phobjikha or Trongsa and flies out of Paro.
Sample 8 Nights 9 Days Bhutan Itinerary
A Bhutan 8 Nights 9 Days Package works best as a one-way journey east with a flight back. Here's a sample Thimphu, Punakha, Trongsa, Bumthang and Paro itinerary to show how the days can come together.
Day 1: Arrival in Paro and Drive to Thimphu
Arrive in Paro and drive to Thimphu. Visit the National Memorial Chorten and settle in.
Day 2: Thimphu
See Buddha Dordenma, the National Library and the Royal Textile Academy, a useful introduction before you reach the weaving villages of Bumthang. Visit Tashichho Dzong in the evening.
Day 3: Thimphu to Punakha
Cross Dochula Pass and descend to Punakha. Visit Punakha Dzong and walk across the suspension bridge.
Day 4: Punakha to Trongsa
Drive east over Pele La, at about 3,400 metres, the traditional boundary between western and central Bhutan. Stop at Chendebji Chorten and reach Trongsa after five to six hours on the road.
Day 5: Trongsa to Bumthang
Explore Trongsa Dzong, the largest fortress in Bhutan, and the museum in the Ta Dzong watchtower above it. Drive over Yotong La to Jakar in the Bumthang region, about two and a half to three hours, passing the yathra weaving stalls at Zungney.
Day 6: Bumthang Valley
Visit Jambay Lhakhang and Kurjey Lhakhang, walk across the river to Tamshing Lhakhang and drive to Mebar Tsho, the Burning Lake. Try local buckwheat noodles and cheese in Jakar town.
Day 7: Bumthang to Paro by Air
Take the short domestic flight from Bathpalathang Airport to Paro, which replaces a road journey of ten hours or more. Spend the afternoon at Rinpung Dzong and Kyichu Lhakhang.
Day 8: Tiger's Nest
Hike to Paro Taktsang, the natural finale to any trip here. Keep the afternoon free for shopping or a hot stone bath.
Day 9: Departure
Enjoy breakfast before your transfer to Paro Airport for departure. If the domestic flight does not operate on your dates, drive back with a night in Phobjikha and shorten Bumthang to one full day.
What Can You Cover in a Bhutan 8 Nights 9 Days Package?
A Bhutan 8 Nights 9 Days Package can take you from the western valleys into the centre of the country. Here's what you can comfortably experience:
- Thimphu: Buddha Dordenma, Tashichho Dzong, the National Library and the Royal Textile Academy.
- Punakha: Punakha Dzong, the suspension bridge and Chimi Lhakhang.
- Trongsa: Trongsa Dzong, the Ta Dzong museum and views down the Mangde Chhu gorge.
- Bumthang: Jambay Lhakhang, Kurjey Lhakhang, Tamshing Lhakhang, Jakar Dzong, the Burning Lake and, with an extra half day, the Ura Valley.
- Phobjikha and Haa: Quieter valleys that fill an eight-night western itinerary, honestly, if you would rather skip the long drive east.
- Paro: Tiger's Nest, Rinpung Dzong, the National Museum and Kyichu Lhakhang.
Tip: Domestic flights to Bumthang do not run every day and can be cancelled in poor weather. Fix your route around the flight days first, and keep Tiger's Nest and one spare night in Paro after the flight rather than before it.
Bhutan 8 Nights 9 Days Package Price
Bhutan 8 Nights 9 Days Package with Pickyourtrail starts from ₹33,718 per person. Actual pricing shifts based on a few variables:
- Departure city and dates: Flights into Paro are limited, and nine-day trips in festival season need early booking.
- Hotel tier: Central Bhutan has fewer luxury properties than the west, so costs depend mostly on your choices in Thimphu, Punakha and Paro.
- Domestic flight: Flying back from Bumthang costs more than driving but saves one to two days on the road.
- Sustainable Development Fee: Charged per person, per night for all eight nights, which makes it a noticeable part of a long trip. Check whether your quote includes it.
- Vehicle and guide days: Longer distances and more days on the road raise the transport share of the price.
- Season: Festival dates in Bumthang, Thimphu and Paro carry peak rates, while winter is cheaper.
What's Included in a Bhutan 8 Nights 9 Days Package?
A Bhutan 8 Nights 9 Days Package can include the key essentials for a smooth long trip, with inclusions depending on your chosen itinerary. Typically, you can expect:
- 8 nights of hotel stay across your chosen valleys
- Airport transfers for arrival and departure
- A private vehicle with driver for the whole route
- A licensed English-speaking guide
- Daily breakfast, with dinners included in many packages and lunches on long driving days in some
- Assistance with entry and route permits
- 24/7 on-trip assistance for support whenever you need it
Flights to Paro, the domestic flight unless listed, the Sustainable Development Fee, monument entry fees, travel insurance and personal expenses are usually separate unless specifically mentioned in your package. Always check the inclusions and exclusions before booking.
Are 8 Nights Enough for a Bhutan Trip?
More than enough for the west, and just right for the west plus Bumthang. If you only want Thimphu, Punakha and Paro, eight nights will feel slow, and a shorter package is better value. If central Bhutan interests you, this is the length to choose.
Best Time for a Bhutan 8 Nights 9 Days Package
The best time for a Bhutan 8 Nights 9 Days Package depends on your route, especially if you plan to travel into central Bhutan. Longer itineraries involve high mountain passes and extended road journeys, so weather and travel conditions can be just as important as temperatures in the valleys.
- March to May: Spring brings pleasant conditions for sightseeing and road travel, with rhododendrons adding colour to the landscapes around Pele La and Bumthang. It is a good season for combining nature, culture and mountain drives.
- June to August: The monsoon brings heavier rainfall, which can affect road journeys and mountain passes. Landslides and weather-related travel disruptions are possible, so allow extra flexibility if travelling during this period.
- September to November: Clear skies and generally favourable conditions make autumn a popular period for exploring central Bhutan. Festival dates, including Jambay Lhakhang Drup in Bumthang, can also add a cultural highlight to your trip.
- December to February: Winter brings cold temperatures to Trongsa and Bumthang, with the possibility of snow around higher passes. In return, you can experience quieter towns, crisp skies and fewer visitors.
For a Bhutan 8 Nights 9 Days Package, October and November work well for travellers prioritising central Bhutan's festivals and generally clear conditions, while April and May are a good fit for spring landscapes and milder weather.
A Bhutan 8 Nights 9 Days Package for Every Traveller
- Culture and Monastery Lovers: Bumthang holds some of the oldest and most sacred temples in Bhutan, and Trongsa Dzong is the ancestral seat of the royal family.
- Repeat Visitors: If you have already seen Thimphu and Paro, this route shows you a slower, more rural side of the country.
- Road Trip Fans: The highway over Dochula, Pele La and Yotong La is a journey in its own right, with forests, yak pastures and roadside chortens.
- Trekkers and Walkers: Bumthang's valley trails link temples and villages on foot, and gentle day walks are easy to add.
- Couples and Slow Travellers: Nine days allow long lunches, farmhouse visits and time in each place without watching the clock.

We had a lovely time in Bhutan and all thanks to our guide Keshap and driver Yeshay. Both of them were really attentive and helpful during our 7N/8D trip. During the trip, one of my son fell sick and needed emergency care on a Sunday. Keshap, Yeshay and the entire PYT team were supportive and ensured immediate attention was received. Glad to have chosen PYT and so thankful for our guide and driver for showing us the beauty of Bhutan. Keshap is extremely knowledgeable about the history of his country and answered all our questions patiently. He helped us in suggesting not only restaurants but also ensuring the restaurants provided kid-friendly food. Thanks for the amazing trip experiencing the true culture of Bhutan!!

We travelled to Bhutan with Pick Your Trail last week, and it was truly an unforgettable experience! From the very beginning, Senthil was incredibly helpful in putting together our itinerary. He was considerate of all our specific requests and made sure we could include the experiences we were looking forward to. He was always available to take our calls and communicated promptly throughout the planning process. During the trip, Sruthi made sure to check in with us every single day to ensure everything was going smoothly and that we werent facing any issues. This consistent support gave us great peace of mind. One of the best parts of our experience was having a female guide, Kuenley, who made us feel so comfortable and welcomed. She was incredibly thoughtful about our health, timings, preferences, and concerns. The warmth with which she welcomed us into a new country genuinely made us feel at home. Beyond being an amazing guide, she made the entire journey more meaningful with her kindness and care. A huge thank you to Senthil, Sruthi, Kuenley, and everyone at Pick Your Trail who contributed to making this trip so special. Its the people behind a trip who often make the biggest difference, and you all made our Bhutan experience truly memorable. Would definitely recommend Pick Your Trail to anyone planning their next adventure!
