Milan gets aggressive on annoying tourists – Bans selfie sticks, food trucks, and glass bottles

Heading on to Milan to spend your vacation? Ditch your selfie sticks, for they will be of no use.

Be it hosing down water on the steps of the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence to keep people from snacking on the steps to banning the consumption of alcohol in Rome during the night, Italy has had enough of it. Catching up with the recent regulations imposed in the country, Milan has now banned a bunch of things for the summer – selfie sticks, food trucks, and glass bottles.

Effective from the 14th of July, the ban comes in as a measure to ‘curb littering and antisocial behavior’, the authorities said. While the selfie sticks are a tourists’ best friend, with a rising issue of illegal music taping in concerts, damaging of artworks, and deadly selfie clicks, the ban is quite understandable.

Interestingly, the ban just doesn’t stop there. Tourists and locals in Milan are not allowed to carry, dispose, or leave any type of glass bottles, containers or cans, thereby reducing the litter. Further, the ban also extends to food trucks which are also a form of “moving trade”.

The neighborhoods of Piazza XXIV Maggio, Gorizia Avenue, Via Codara, Gorizia Avenue, Cantore Square and Gabriele D’Annunzio Avenue are under close watch and the ban is said to extend until the 13th of August. Till then, no selfies! Just say ‘cheese’ literally.

Alternatively, if you are a selfie addict then you can try exploring other destinations in Europe through Europe trip packages.
