Many of us must have heard about Venice in Italy and how beautiful it is with its interlinking canals and well surrounded by water. But if you have not a chance to visit Venice, then we have our own Venice in India. Udaipur is known as Venice in the East due to the number of lakes that it has in and around Udaipur.  It is home to Jaisamand Lake, which is the second-largest human-made sweet water lake in Asia. The magnificent City Palace and Sajjangarh (Monsoon Palace) add to the structural beauty and grandeur of Udaipur. Udaipur is also known for its abundance of zinc and marble. The Solar Observatory in Lake Fateh Sagar is the only observatory in India which is located on an island. The ten-day Shilpgram Festival which usually starts from 21st Dec to 30th Dec pulls in a large number of people who are typically interested in arts and crafts. The amalgamation of such diverse cultures and offerings is what makes Udaipur stand when compared to other cities. CITY PALACE

City Palace was formerly known as Jag Niwas, The City Palace banks on Lake Pichola. Maharaja Uday mirza Singh built this Palace in the year 1559. This Palace consists of 11 different places that were constructed over a period of time by different rules. This Palace consists of four major and several minor palaces that form the magnificent City Palace. The main building of the Palace is now used as a museum displaying artefacts. The Palace’s core structure was completed and intended for Maharana Pratap to come and rule, but his journey to defeat the Mughals made him spend his life in jungles, and thus, he never visited this Palace.

This museum showcases the range of Maharana Pratap’s artillery, and also display of his mammoth, formidable armour which is of 25 kilograms. The architecture is a perfect blend of European, Chinese and Medieval period. The balconies and towers of the Udaipur palace give a magnificent view of the lake and the surrounding city. Everything about this Palace is unique, be it the architecture, the artefacts inside and the paintings which are hung on the walls. It is also known to be as one of the best places to visit in Udaipur at night. The Taj Group took over the lake palace and has restored and preserved the heritage of this Palace.

Lake Pichola

Pichola Lake is one of the most impressive and picturesque lakes of Udaipur, India. Located in the heart of the city, Lake Pichola is the oldest and one of the largest lakes of the city. Pichhu Banjara built this beautiful lake during the ruling period of Maharana Lakha. It is Spread out to around 5kms in length and about 3 km in width and has a depth of 30 feet.

The worth of this lake has not separated anyone to attract towards it. The lake looks more enchanting with its spectacular surroundings. Maharana Udai Singh was for sure captivated by the charm of this natural lake which has a perfect backdrop of lush green Aravali hills. He also constructed a dam made out of stone just on the shore of the lake.

Pichola Lake is surrounded by grand Palaces, bathing ghats, temples and the Aravali hills. One can see the Eklinggarh Fort from the hill names Machhla Magra which is situated on the southern part of the lake. The City Palace of Udaipur is spread along the eastern banks of the lake. Mohan Mandir which was Built by Jagat Singh, is situated on the north-east corner of this lake.

Lake Pichola encompasses several islands that supplement the calm waters of the lake. The world-famous Lake Palace is located on the Jag Island of this serene lake. Jag Mandir, which is another famous destination of tourists, is also located on one of the islands of this lake. And if you ask me a trip to Pichola Lake is incomplete without a boat ride. The natural blue waters of the lake leave a calming impact on the spectator.
