Malaysia Visa for Indians

Indian passport holders travelling to Malaysia require a visa to enter the country. However, until December 31, 2024, Indians are exempted from requiring a visa to travel to Malaysia. If you are travelling in 2025, then ensure that you apply ahead and get your visa approved through the Malaysian e-Visa portal, VFS centres or the Malaysian High Commission.

While applying for a Malaysia visa, there are certain requirements to meet and documents to produce. Here is the list of requirement criteria for obtaining the visa:

• The traveller’s passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months or more. 
• An accurately and completely filled visa application form.
• Two recent passport-sized photographs with a white background.
• Proof of flight tickets for onwards and return flights. 
• Proof of sufficient funds financing the trip and bank balance of the past three months.
• Travel insurance, since it is mandatory for visa approval.

Validity

• Tourist visa: The tourist visa for single entry is valid for 3 months from the date of issue, and multiple entry has a validity of 6-12 months. 
• E-visa: An e-visa is valid for 3 months from the date of approval.
• Transit visa: A transit visa is only valid for 5 days, as it is only for the purpose of a layover to travel to another country. 
• Visa on arrival: A VoA is valid up to 15 days from the date of entry and cannot be extended.

E-visa (online)

Step 1: Visit the official website of e-visa for Malaysia.

Embassy/Consulate (Offline)

Step 1: Find a VFS centre nearest to your location that has a Malaysia visa application.

Step 3: Visit the centre on the date of the appointment and submit the application along with the biometric data. Pay the processing fee and complete the process. 

Step 4: You will be notified about your visa application in 3-7 working days.

Visa on Arrival 

Step 1: Arrive at the Malaysian entry point from the eligible countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei and Singapore. 

Step 2: Provide the required documents, such as proof of travel, return tickets and proof of accommodation and pay the processing fee.

Step 3: Once you have completed the process, you will receive a stamp in your passport that will allow you to stay in Malaysia for 15 days and no more than that.

The processing time for a Malaysia tourist visa for single entry and multiple entry is between 4-7 working days and costs Rs. 3,500-4,000 and Rs. 6,000-7,500, respectively. An e-visa costs Rs. 3,500-4,000 and the processing time is anywhere between 3-5 working days. A transit visa, however, costs Rs. 2,000-3,000 and takes 3-5 working days to get processed as well. 

Visa is exempted for all Indian nationals, up till December 2026, travelling for the purpose of tourism, allowing them to stay in the country for up to 30 days. Indian visitors must fill out the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) before arriving, even though they are exempt from the visa requirement. Within three days of the planned departure date, the MDAC must be completed online.
