History of Agung Rai Museum of Art

The Agung Rai Museum of Art, which is also called the Arma Museum, was officially established by the Indonesian Government on June 9, 1996. Dr Ing. Wardiman Djojonegoro, opened this museum to the preservation and conservation of Balinese art and literature. The museum offers exquisite displays of art, including Balinese, Javanese, and foreign art forms. The museum features two buildings, namely, Bale Daja (north building) and Bale Dauh (south building), which are constructed in a traditional Balinese architectural style. Presently the Agung Rai Museum houses a collection of paintings from the nineteenth century as well as Kamasan paintings and Batuan-style works from the 1930s and 1940s. Apart from that, the museum offers a unique facility for Balinese locals to learn and improve their traditional dancing skills. Visitors who are visiting this place are also entertained by Balinese traditional dance performances. 

Operational Hours and Entrance fee for Aging Rai Museum

The museum is open to the public on all days from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m with an entrance fee of 100,000 IDR (Rs. 535) per person. The museum’s Balinese dance performances are held between  3 pm and 5 pm on Monday to Friday and 10:30 am to 12 pm on Saturday & Sunday.
