About Khao Chi Chan

History of Khao Chi Chan

In 1996, to mark the 50th anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's accession to the throne, work on the Buddha image at Khao Chi Chan began. The Thai government and the private sector collaborated on the project, and various businesses and individuals donated money.
The image, which is 109 meters high and 70 meters wide, was laser-etched into the cliff face. The process took more than two years to complete and was completed in 1998.
