Dochula Pass – Enchanting gateway to heaven in Bhutan

Situated high in the mountain ranges Himalayas, is Bhutan. A small paradise, untouched by many. Dochula pass is considered a historic landmark in the city of Thimphu. It is a mountain pass dedicated to the lives lost of soldiers in the 2003 war. The pass is also known as the ‘Druk Wangyal Chortens’ are 108 stupas each representing a soldier. The mountain pass is roughly about 20kms long between Thimphu and Punakha.

4. Druk Wangyal Lhakhang

Visit the Buddha temple located right opposite to the stupas. The place is filled with modern paintings of Buddha and the royal family. The design and architecture of the temple are built in traditional Bhutan style. There is also a festival held here annually here to celebrate the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

5. Panoramic view of the mountain range

Being up in the mountain gives you a beautiful view of the city. In Dochula pass, you can view not just the city but a few ranges of the Himalayas. Witness the snow-covered Himalayas and the neighbouring peaks and click amazing pictures with you in the centre.

How to reach Dochula Pass?

Get your hiking shoes on, walk your way up top for about 30kms to reach the pass. Not much into walking or hiking, not a problem. You can alternatively rent a cab. The drive, through the car, will be approximately 2 hours long but the roads are truly scenic making you enjoy the drive.
