With stunning sights of deserts, jaw-dropping wildlife, sprawling palaces, irresistible shopping streets, and of course eclectic indigenous festivals, there are so many places to visit and things to do Rajasthan, which you are well aware of. But are you well-versed about how to visit, though? Do you know how many airports are there in Rajasthan? Take a look at this quick guide about Rajasthan airports before planning your trip!
Currently, there are 7 airports in Rajasthan of which one is an international airport and the rest operate domestic flights.
Jaipur International Airport is the primary airport that connects international destinations to Rajasthan and also the major cities in India. In the category of 2-5 mn passengers, the Jaipur International Airport was titled as the World’s best airport by the Airports Council International. Such is its infrastructure and amenities.
Situated at Dabok, 22 km away from Udaipur, the airport connects major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Jodhpur and Kolkata. From wheelchair amenities to handicraft shops, the airport has got everything covered.
Jodhpur airport is a civil enclave airport that shares space with the Air Base of the Indian Air Force. Located at just ~6 km from the city centre, the single-terminal airport operates flights from the cities of New Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Jaipur, Surat, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Goa, and Jaisalmer.
Jaisalmer airport is a civil enclave airport that shares quarters with the Indian Air Force. Jaisalmer operates flights only from and to Jaipur and New Delhi and doesn’t serve international destinations.
Located at close quarters with the hotspots of the city, Bikaner is not connected by buses or any other private transport and travellers must hire a taxi or use their own vehicle for transfers to and from the airport. Although only New Delhi operates direct flights to Bikaner, several other cities connect to Bikaner airport via indirect flights—Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Surat, Bhopal, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Lucknow.
Kishangarh Airport is one of the busiest airports in Rajasthan which connects major cities like Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Belgaum and New Delhi. Serving its neighbouring cities like Nagpur, Pushkar and Ajmer, Kishangarh Airport has plenty to keep you occupied including its ornate Bani Thani paintings.
If you wonder why you can’t find Kota Airport in the list of airports in Rajasthan, it’s because of its decreased demand in the wake of increased usage of railway facilities. Surprisingly, no flight has been scheduled from Kota airport since 1997. But the government still spends money on maintaining the airport although clearly there is no return on investment.
