Paris is like the sweet after taste of cotton candy that rolls off your tongue. It is like all the bigger-than-life Hollywood love story plot lines come to life. Paris is magic, dreams, love and the brightest lights in the world. Here are the top must see places in Paris that you should definitely head to. Don’t spare your gallery!
Don't compromise on the planning, either!
#1 Eiffel Tower
The iconic masterpiece by Gustav Eiffel, the Eiffel Tower stands tall, proud and elegant on Champ de Mars. The tower is decked with 20,000 light bulbs that sparkle five minutes every hour till 1 am in the morning.
Check it out: Dine at the 58 Tour Eiffel Restaurant – located on the first level of the Eiffel Tower. Until June 11, 2017 you could even zipline at the speed of flying tennis balls mid-way from the Tower.
#2 Louvre Museum
Built as a fortress in 1190, the Louvre stands tall as the world’s biggest museum today. Housing the Mona Lisa painting and the iconic Louvre Pyramid, the Louvre Museum was actually used by the Nazis as a storehouse for stolen art during World War II.
Check it out: Flattery or not – Abu Dhabi has its very Louvre, too.
#3 Notre Dame de Paris
This cathedral stands 120 m tall at Paris by the Seine river. With a spire and two lofty towers, this is considered a fine example of French Gothic architecture. You can awe at its rose windows, beautiful sculptures and relics – all Gothic inspired.
Check it out: This cathedral is more than just a pretty face – once here you may choose to explore historical ruins underneath the church or even take up the tedious climb to the top of the cathedral’s towers.
#4 Jardin du Luxembourg
Also known as Luxembourg Gardens, this is Paris’s second largest public park. Stroll among the well manicured lawns, gardens and fruit orchards. For the kids, there is a playground to ride ponies at and a puppet show at Théâtre du Luxembourg.
Check it out: Of the variety of statues found on your walk here, look out for a miniature Statue of Liberty on the west end of the garden. This was the model used for constructing the icon that lines New York’s cityscape today.
#5 Palace of Versailles
Grandiose only barely scrapes the surface when it comes to describing this marvellous hunting-lodge-turned-royal-court. With its magnificent gardens and Hall of Mirrors, today the palace houses a museum.
Check it out: Eat cake! You can check out the infamous Queen Marie Antoinette’s apartment here.
#6 Champs-Elysées
Over a mile long, this tree line boulevard connecting Place de la Concorde and Arc de Triomphe is famed to be the world’s most beautiful avenue. Dotted with restaurants, boutiques, museums and nightclubs; Champs-Elysées hosts the Bastille Day military parade.
Check it out: While here engage in some carabet at the Le Lido Theatre.
#7 Les Catacombes
In stark contrast to its alias, City of Lights, here is the darker shade of Paris. Under the streets of Paris are the remains of millions of Parisians – dating back to the French Revolution, even. Arranged artistically, this was done in the 18th century to rectify hygiene problems arising from the city’s overflowing cemeteries.
Check it out: Not for children and the faint hearted! Once here, be aware that there are no toilets and flash photography is prohibited.
#8 Palais Garnier
Not just a pretty face this ornate building! With an audience capacity of 2,000 it is home to the National Opera of Paris. It featured in novel and movies of Phantom of the Opera.
Check it out: Now you can dine inside the Opera. L’Opera Restaurant offers you a delectable French fare!
#9 Disneyland
This is a no-brainer. When in Paris – the City of Love, the City of Lights; reclaim your childhood with panache. Located 30 km away from central Paris also visit the Walt Disney Studios Park nearby.
Check it out: Definitely catch Disney Dreams mixing fireworks, water effects and more to create one of the best shows worldwide.
#10 Pere Lachaise Cemetery
Not to sober down your Paris expedition – because nothing about this place is drab. Home to the graves of the rich and famous like Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison & more; each gravesite is a work of art. Literally.
Check it out: Among the many greats buried here, these are few you HAVE to check out!
#12 Moulin Rouge
“The show must go on. . .”
And it does – at Moulin Rouge in Paris. A premier entertainment venue, it opened its doors for the first time in 1889. A racy dance style can-can is said to have emerged from here.
