 About the Activity:

  • The Emirates NBD Pearl Museum is one of the most notable and unique places to visit in Dubai.
  • To restore the noble wealth that came from the deep oceans and to spread awareness of the importance of maintaining the value of these rare materials, Emirates NBD, a leading bank in the United Arab Emirates, proposed the idea of a pearl museum.
  • The museum's history begins in the 1970s, and a major contribution was made by a prominent pearl collector, Sultan Al Owais. Presently, the museum houses a variety of pearls, especially Sultan’s pearl collections, which are now retained among the museum's exhibits.
  • The museum depicts the lives of famous divers and sailors and the tools they used during the discovery of pearls.
  • There are also several forms of pearl jewellery in the museum, with hundreds of immaculate pearls arranged against a background of crimson velvet.
  • Start your tour with a brief 12-minute documentary on the background of diving and pearls, which will be shown before the tour starts.
  • The tour guide will lead you through the museum's sections after you have looked into its history and its most memorable moments.
  • Once you have finished the last segment, a spectacular view of Dubai Creek will appear before your eyes.
  • After that, visitors can take a tour of the Coinage Museum to understand more about the development of UAE currency.
  • If you are interested in learning about pearling and the pearl trade, be sure to check out the Emirates NBD Pearl Museum.

How to reach?

  • By car: The museum is located on the 15th floor of the Emirates NBD Deira office. The Pearl Museum is located 6.3 kilometres from Dubai International Airport, so if you are taking a taxi, it would take around 15 minutes to reach the museum. To get to the pearl museum, take the airport road south to Deira via Baniyas Road.
  • By metro: You have to catch the red line metro from terminal 1 of Dubai airport to reach the Union Metro Station, and from there the pearl museum is located just 800 metres away, making it easily reachable within 10 minutes.
  • By Bus: There is a direct bus route available from Dubai International Airport to the Pearl Museum. Firstly, take bus C01 from the airport terminal 1 to reach the Etisalat Head Office 2 bus stop, and then, from the station, walk to the Pearl Museum within 10 minutes.

Things to know before You Go

  • Dubai has a hot climate, so it is important to wear something comfortable and loose.
  • Be respectful. As with any religious or cultural site, it is important to be respectful while you are visiting.
  • Be careful with the museum’s collection. All the things in the museum are very old and should be handled with care. So make sure that you don’t damage any collections displayed in the museum.
  • Don't forget to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and always make sure to carry a bottle of water with you.
  • Bring along a hat and sunglasses, as well as sunscreen, for protection from Dubai’s hot sun.
  • Only 20 guests are permitted into the museum at a time, so make sure to reserve your tickets in advance to avoid the time delay.
