Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR): Dubai’s Protected Desert Wilderness

A decree by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum inaugurated the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR), whose mission is to conserve the natural desert environment and the unique biodiversity of Dubai. It boasts more than 120 species of plants, 43 species of mammals, and 40 species of birds, which thrived under well-controlled conditions that balanced conservation and tourism.

A small number of people are allowed to access the DDCR in order to keep the amount of human influence to a minimum. The reserve is now open to only a few eco-tour operators licensed to lead safaris and experiences within the reserve, namely the Platinum Heritage, Arabian Adventures, and Royal Shaheen.

Tourists will be able to explore the desert through guided drives, falconry shows, camel rides, and conservation tours that will be sustainable and educational, and inspiring.
