Ubud Royal Palace

Popularly known as Puri Saren Agung, the Ubud Royal Palace is a significant historical landmark in Bali which was constructed in the 18th century. This royal palace was built during the reign of Tjokorda Putu Kande. The whole structure of the palace is intricately designed by the influence of Hinduism. The palace is not only home to the royal family but also served as an administrative hub during the reign of King Cokorda Sukawati. Due to his passion for Balinese art and culture, King Cokorda Sukawati invited many visitors to the palaces to witness the unique Balinese architecture. Ever since, the Ubud Royal Palace has been a great source of cultural inspiration in Bali for many tourists around the world.

There are several types of dance performances hosted in the royal palace. Some of the various types of performance held here include: Legong of Mahabharata, Legong Dance, Bina Remaja Ramayana Ballet, and Barong Dance. Legong dance is a form of traditional Balinese dance distinguished by intricate finger and foot movements performed with expressive facial and body gestures. Whereas the Barong dance is a refined dance form exhibiting the mythological depiction of animals that have supernatural powers.

The Ubud Royal Palace is open to all visitors from 7 am to 5 pm and there is no entrance fee required to enter the royal palace. However, the traditional dance performance hosted in the palace only begins at 7.30pm with an entrance fee of Rs.100.000  

The Ubud Royal Palace is located in the Gianyar Regency of Ubud district in Bali. The distance from Ngurah International Airport to Ubud Royal Palace would cover a distance of 36.3 km, which would take nearly 1 hour and 18 minutes by car. There are also several local buses that transfer between these two locations. The bus ticket from Bali airport to Ubud would cost around Rs. 560.
