Visit the glorious orange land of Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh

Tucked away 1607 feet above sea level in the ranges of Satpura is the glorious land called Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh. Pachmarhi sits on a large plate and has a beautiful landscape filled with waterfalls, pools, thick green forest. Known for the hills that surround the region, the town is filled with places that give you an easy way out from reality. One of the many things that attract tourists all over from India to here is the splendid view that you can see as the sun sets in the land of Pachmarhi.

1. Bee Falls

Bee Falls is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Pachmarhi. Located close to the town of Pachmarhi, Bee Falls is a 35-metre falls that flows through a small dense area. If you ever feel adventurous, you can always trek up to the top which will take about an hour upward and another to get back down. Be sure to take a minute and admire the view from the top. You can even find a spot to have a small picnic and sip a hot beverage next to gallons of gushing waters. If you are not a person who prefers to trek, you can always try swimming around in natural freshwater.

2. Satpura National Park

Satpura National Park is yet another famous spot among the locals and tourists visiting Pachmarhi. As the name says “Satpura” meaning “seven hills”, the entire sanctuary is spread across seven hills that are interconnected. Go on a jolly safari ride where you can get a peek of wild elephants, leopards, barasingha, some of the rarest birds and lot more. Experience your own feel of Jumanji as you wander through the untrodden forest in a jeep. The park is open to the public between 7 AM and 6:30 PM on all days of the week. The entry ticket to the park is costed at INR 1250 per person.

3. Mahadeo Hills

Mahadeo Hills is one of the highest peaks/hills in Pachmarhi town. The entire region was formed a million years ago. Mahadeo Hills is said to be a holy shrine in the region of Pachmarhi. The main deities here in this holy shrine, which are of Lord Shiva, are located inside a cave known as the Gupt Mahadev. If you are up for a challenge, try trekking here and the clear view of green nature will calm your inner self as you walk up.

4. Pandava Caves

We have all known the story of Mahabarata while growing up and we all know who the Pandavas are. Pandava caves here in Pachimarh refers to five rock temples surrounded by colourful flowers grown naturally. It is believed by many that during the years of exile, Pandavas made this spot their home. Being one of the favourite spots for those on religious travels, the caves have got many stories to tell. It is also said to be a spot where monks of Buddhism used to meditate, far away from the populated area. The cave is open to the public on all days of the week between 8 AM and 6 PM.

5. Handi Khoh

Handi Khoh refers to a 300 feet steep cliff located amidst a dense forest in the region of Parchimarh. There seems to be stories and myths throughout the years tying it to Lord Shiva. There goes another story that talks about an evil snake guarding a once existing lake at Handi Khoh, annihilated by Lord Shiva. The battle between them left the lake to dry and the empty space took a shape of a pot (Handi in Hindi). Though it has a magical touch, the place has its own charm. Visit Handi Khoh and reach the top by going on a short trek to feel adventurous.

6. Dutchess Falls

Pachmarhi is quite famous for attracting and beautiful places. With beautiful places to visit every single day, Pachmarhi will make sure you fall in love with mother nature if you weren’t already. One such place is the Dutchess Falls. Dutchess Falls is one of the famous places in Pachmarhi that attracts quite a number of tourists every year. The charming waterfall is split into three individual ones as you go up. Pamper yourself with a hot plate of Maggi as you make your way up to the top. While there, take a seat on a rock and click some amazing photos and take a swim. The best time to visit here would be during the months of October to June. The weather here is very pleasant during those months and the flow of the waterfall is quite good to admire and bathe in.

7. Ramya Kund

Have you ever known what it is like to take a dip in a natural pool? Well, here is your chance. Visit Ramya Kund at Pachmarhi. Ramya Kund is a natural pool created out of crystal clear water. It is situated about one kilometre away from Keech Garh. The pool is not known to many, making it an exquisite place to relax and swim. Reaching there might be a little difficult. To reach the pool, one has to trek for about 300 metres on a slightly rocky path and but let me tell you, its worth it. The best time to visit there would be post-monsoon when the flow of water is high and the weather is just right. The pool is open to the 24/7 on all days except on Wednesdays. A swim here would cost you absolutely zero INR.

8. Bison Lodge Museum

Bison Lodge Museum is a private museum built in the year 1862 by Captain Forsyth. The museum exhibits stuffed wild animals found in the regions of Pachmarhi. Unlike any other museum, the Bison Museum lets you go on fun jeep rides, that allow you to take a peek at the houses, lodges, and Pachmarhi’s rich floras. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the hill station just outside the viewpoint inside the Bison Museum. The museum is open to the public on all seven days of the week during 8 AM – 12 PM and 4 PM – 7 PM. The entry fee is INR 660 for an individual.
