Australia is one of the most remote countries in the world which inevitably makes it hard for a lot of people to reach. However, being remote makes it quite a unique and offbeat destination that doesn’t immediately strike a lot of people when they think about amazing holiday destinations. The people, culture, wildlife and the amazing outdoors of Australia are all to die for and If you haven’t visited Australia and you get the chance you definitely should and here are my top 5 reasons why you should visit Downunder.
1. Amazing Road Trips
To truly appreciate Australia, road trips are straight up the best way to do it. The country is vast with a lot of very remote areas that are only accessible by gravel roads. A car is by far the easiest way to reach most of these places and you’ll have to use your own two arms and legs to scale the rest. Sometimes the distances are so vast that the trips take weeks and you will have the amazing Australian landscape to keep you company and these are some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world as well arguably. There is something very much soul-fulfilling about taking to the open roads and exploring the vastness of a country all the while stopping at various little towns or villages for overnighters and meeting and appreciating the wonderful people there in the small communities. A lot of people also leverage the various free camping sites along the way. If you seek adventure this is definitely one of the most fulfilling and authentic experiences you can have. The great ocean road has also been highly regarded as one of the most scenic drives in the world. You know what the say, sometimes it’s not the destinations, its the journey and the Journeys in Australia are truly spectacular.
2. The Culture and People
The people Downunder are some of the most open-minded and friendliest people you can meet. Swear words can be heard thrown around the dinner table without any ill effect and it’s a country where you really can greet your boss in the morning with a ‘good morning, how are you mate?’ Every time you read anything about a country, the people are always appreciated. Australia however, really does back it up. With studies showing it to be one of the most egalitarian and tolerant countries in the world. To give an example, over 62% of all Australians voted yes for legalizing same-sex marriages. That is not the only thing, Australians love a drink, well this might again sound very stereotypical but, Australia is the third highest alcohol consumer per capita and that’s a fact. What life has thought me is that open-minded people who love a drink are the best kinda people and clearly Australia is full of them good wankers.
3. The Wildlife
Australia has immensely diverse wildlife, a lot of the species that are found in Australia are just not found elsewhere in the world. To be precise 90% of the species that are found in Australia are not found elsewhere in the world and it’s the only developed nation to hold the most species of life as well. A Major reason for this is the isolation of Australia from the rest of the world which allowed various species to evolve uninterrupted and undisturbed by other species. You just have so much to see here. Everything from kangaroos, koalas, Emus, Wombats, the Tasmanian devil, platypus…… the list just keeps going on. Heck, there are twice as many kangaroos in Australia as there are humans and I’m not even making that up. If you are into wildlife you really have to look into Australia it’s really outstanding and where else can you pet and cuddle with a koala?
4. The Beaches
The beaches of Australia are an essential component of Aussie culture. Aussies are beach babies and with beaches that seem like they were taken right out of a postcard, I wouldn’t be surprised. With over 50,000 km of coastline and over 80% of all Australians living within 50km of the coastline, beaches are central in their culture. Beaches are where Aussies meet, socialize, surf, drink, celebrate and do a bunch more. Australia is also home to some of the best beaches in the world with azure waters and white sands. Check out the white heaven beach if you wanna get a glimpse of what I’m talking about. The beaches in Aussie are just stunning to both look at and they are full of great energy that just makes them fantastic places to have a ton of fun. Who doesn’t like a good beach or a good wave to surf?
5. The Nature and Great outdoors
Aussies have always been very outdoorsy people and that combined with its extremely diverse landscapes makes it an awesome place for anyone who loves nature and adventure. Australia is known for its stunning natural beauty that is unmatched by any other. It’s just a stunning country to just drive around and do various adventure sports in. Places like the great barrier reef are the last of the premier dive destinations in the world. You can almost do anything here skydiving, diving with sharks, bungee jumping, hang gliding, mountain biking, cliff camping, abseiling, rock climbing, white water rafting, canoeing…. The list is huge. The amazing landscapes combined with everything you can do here just make for a truly unforgettable and very wholesome experience. It’s true natures call for adventure
So those are my top 5 reasons as to why you should be visiting Downunder. So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags, rent a car and drive around Australia and crack a few beers open with the Aussies and don’t forget to cuddle a koala while you’re down there.
