You may take a rack railway to the Schynige Platte from Wilderswil, which is a five-minute walk from the Interlaken Ost train station. One of the most breathtaking viewpoints in the Bernese Oberland can be reached from the village of Beatenberg, which is only a short bus trip from Interlaken. The picturesque ruin of Unspunnen Castle is a short 1.5 km walk from Wilderswil train station and only 3 km from the heart of Interlaken. The historic Augustinian monastery of Interlaken, situated in the center of the city, was first mentioned in 1133.
